Service Charges effective 1 May 2026

If you are required to submit your biometrics as part of your IRCC application, you will pay a biometrics fee to the Government of Canada. Paying the biometrics fee includes:

• Collecting your fingerprints and a digital photo at the VAC

• Moving your documents, such as your passport, between IRCC and the VAC where you gave your biometrics

This means that if you give your biometrics at a VAC, you also get one package transmission service. This service will cover sending your documents from the VAC where you gave biometrics to IRCC and, once IRCC has made a decision on your application, back to the VAC.

There are some exceptions. Read carefully to see if these apply to you:

1. If you have already used your one included package transmission, you will need to pay the Package Transmission service fee to send any additional documents to IRCC.

2. If you enrolled your biometrics at one VAC location and submit your documents at a different VAC location, you will need to pay the Package Transmission service fee. The service fee is only waived if you submit your documents at the same VAC location where you gave your biometrics.

3. If you do not need to provide biometrics, you will need to pay the Package Transmission service fee to send your documents to IRCC through a VAC.

Transit Visas:

If you are travelling through Canada on your way to a different country, you may need to apply for a Transit Visa and give your biometrics. However, you will not have to pay the Government of Canada biometrics fee. Since you are not paying the biometrics fee, you will need to pay the Package Transmission service fee to send your documents to IRCC through a VAC.

You may not need a Canadian Transit Visa if you are travelling to the United States of America. Visit IRCC website to learn more about Transit Visas and who needs to apply for one: IRCC - Transit through Canada.

Submitting a Paper Application to IRCC through a VAC:

IRCC only accepts online applications for most immigration programs, but there are some exceptions. In some cases, you may even be able to submit a paper application (with or without biometrics) to IRCC through a VAC. Submitting a paper application through a VAC requires paying the Assisted Service - Paper Application service fee.

Methods of Payment:

For your IRCC application and biometrics:

Government of Canada fees for your application can only be paid online through IRCC’s website. Find out how to pay these fees here: IRCC - How to pay your fees.
