VISA TYPES

All applications have to be made in person by the applicant due to the biometric enrolment process.

All applicants must fully comply with relevant documentation required for respective visa categories. Incomplete applications may only be accepted with the applicants consent and if they insist on submitting their documents.

You may submit your visa application at the nearest VFS Global Austria Visa Application Centre for short-stay Schengen visas (for the purpose of Tourism, business or visiting family and friends, Lorry Driver) & for Long-stay Visas.

The convention implementing the Schengen Agreement came into force on 26 March 1995. The Schengen countries require visitors to obtain a common visa, which permits entry into the Area. The Schengen countries have reached agreements with each other on entry requirements and a common Visa Application Form.

Short Term Visa

This visa is valid to visit all the States within the Schengen territory.

The nationals of third countries that are legal residents in Iran can apply for a visa at the Application Centre in Tehran.

Visa applicants are requested to appear in person at the time of submission.

Incomplete, unclear or unsigned applications will not be accepted.

Visa fees are non-refundable and have to be paid only in cash and only in Euros at the time of application.

The Visa Application Form MUST be typed and NOT hand written. Visa Applications will not be accepted if the form is hand written.

When submitting the visa application, the established fee must be paid (generally €90 –only Cash and in Euros). Applicants are requested to carry exact change in Euros to pay the fees for services used at the Visa Application Centre. This fee is non-refundable and therefore will not be refunded if the visa application is unsuccessful. Under certain circumstances applicants may be entitled to a reduction or may be exempt from paying the fee. Please consult the Diplomatic Missions or Austrian Embassy in Tehran for more information on this. For all other necessary requirements, please consult the Diplomatic Mission or Consular Office where the visa application is being made as these may vary according to the applicant's country of origin.

The processing time for the application at the Embassy of Austria is approximately 2-3 weeks and may vary depending on the decision of the Embassy.

Please be advised that due to the above mentioned minimum processing time, we are not able to guarantee the return of passports by specific dates for travel. By way of exception, in specific cases in which additional documentation is required, this period can be extended to a maximum of 60 calendar days.

    • Original letter issued by an Iranian University/school and leave of absence for student.
    • Letter showing that the applicant sufficient funds wrote by the applicant for unemployment applicant.
    • Travel ticket (Reserving the round-trip ticket) Note: The submission of the purchased ticket is not principally required
    • Hotel booking/reservation as per the intended trip

    • Documents showing that the applicant possesses sufficient funds- Recent 3 months bank statements and turn over.
    • Under-age visitors who travel alone: Original and copy of the Notary issued Parent/Guardian's Consent Letter or court order
    • Original and copy of the Under-age visitor’s birth certificate
    • Copy of the father’s/mother’s Schengen visa for Under-age visitors
    • Documents showing that the applicant’s Iran residency with at least 3 months validity more than the validity of the requested visa for applicant does not have Iranian citizenship.

    Photospecification

    Applicants need to submit their Application form with the new photo format, as explained below:

    The photo must fulfill the norm specified by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation).

    • Use a plain light-coloured or white background.
    • The photo must be no more than 6-months old.
    • Portrait style photo (no posing) showing both edges of face clearly.
    • Close up of the head and top of the shoulders so that the face takes up 70–80% of the photograph.
    • Photo in sharp focus and clear.

    Photo Size

    The photo for each visa applicant submitted must measure:

    • The picture dimensions must be 240 pixels wide by 320 pixels high at least. A smaller picture will be rejected. For instance, a photo being 235 pixels by 320 pixels is not valid.
    • On the other hand, the photo should keep a proportion of 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm (width x height) within limits. However, 250 x 340 pixels picture would be valid, but not a 290 x 340 pixels one.
    • Finally, the image weight (size in Kbytes) can never be bigger than 120 Kbytes. Finally, the image weight (size in Kbytes) can never be bigger than 120 Kbytes.

    Resolution

    • An image resolution is measured in DPI (dots per inch) and it's mainly used to control printing quality. Therefore, higher resolution means better printing quality.
    • Photos resolution should be 300 dpi, so, when you scan the image, check this parameter carefully. However, bear in mind that the higher the resolution, the bigger the picture.
    • The only image format accepted is JPEG (Join Photograph Expert Group Format). The other image formats such as BMP, TIFF, GIF, PNG, etc. will be rejected.

    Attaching the Photo to the Application form

    • Glue one photograph to the application form in the designated space.

    Note : If children are traveling with their parents and are included inside the passport of the mother and/or the father, one photograph for each children MUST be glued to the application form of the father or the mother, depending on whom are they traveling with.

    Please follow these instructions carefully. If the photograph provided does not meet these requirements, your application will be considered incomplete.

  • Processing Time

    Usually, processing time for visa applications is 10 working days (starting from the time when the Embassy or Consulate received the application, not including the transportation time), counting from when all requested documents have been submitted. This period may be extended in specific cases, notably when further scrutiny of the application is required, for example, when an applicant must come to an interview or submit additional documentation requested by the Embassy or Consulate. During certain times of the year, the processing time can be longer due to the high volume of applications. It is recommended to submit your visa application at least two weeks prior to date of travel date and if possible, even earlier ahead of the holiday period.

    Please note that the application processing time and decisions on visa applications are the sole prerogative of the Embassy or Consulate. VFS Global has no role to play in these areas of the application process.

    The applicant will have to provide evidence that he/she falls under this category.

    You qualify for this category if you have an invitation from a company in Austria. That invitation can either be an electronic invitation (EVE/GVE) or a traditional letter of invitation.Please be informed that participation of fairs, congresses, workshops, cultural events, etc. do not fall under this category and are considered as individual travel.

    Kindly refer to the documents required page to make sure that you have all the supporting documents.

    • Minors under 18 are definitely not accepted at business slots.
    • The applicants who want to accompany business travelers have to apply as tourists and not as business travelers.

The submitted invitation letter shall specify the travel time, name and passport NO. of the applicant, especially the purpose of travel and accommodation address (if not specified otherwise)
    • In the case that the applicant fails to provide sufficient evidence for the purpose of the visit: E-business invitation (EVE or GVE) the inviting company shall set up the invitation letter before the police in the region where the company's headquarter is located.
    • This invitation will be sent automatically to the Embassy by the Austrian police. Applicants are kindly ask to provide the number of that EVE resp. GVE when lodging the application.
    • Document showing the accommodation address or hotel booking.
    • Documents showing the relationship between the applicant and their family, if they travel with him/her.
    • Documents showing that the applicant’s Iran residency with at least 3months validity more than the validity of the requested visa for applicant dose not have Iranian citizenship.
