Overview
A tourist visa can be granted to a foreigner who does not have a residence or occupation in India and whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation, sightseeing, casual visit to meet friends and relatives and attending a short term yoga programme. No other activity is permissible on a tourist visa.
The visas are not issued from the future date to match applicant’s itinerary for inward and outwards journey to/from India and are effective from the date of issue.
- A tourist visa may be issued for 1 year with multiple entries as a default option and is non extendable and non-convertible. Consequently, the reduction in period of validity of visa sought by an applicant, would not alter the visa fees.
- Multiple entry Tourist visa for a maximum period of 6 months would be the default option for the nationals of the following countries:
Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, China, Congo, DPRK (North Korea), Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Yemen
- Foreigners applying for voluntary work in NGO’s must apply for an employment visa.

As a part of this service we send automated messages about your visa application to your mobile phone and automated email messages to the email address you provided in your application form. Strictly do not finalize travel plans before receiving the service applied for. Processing times below are average processing times. Please plan your travel accordingly.
VFS Global/Government of India would not be responsible for any inconvenience/problems faced as a result of finalizing travel plans before obtaining the relevant service.
Applicants sending their documents by Post/Courier are requested to ensure that they are completed and meet requirements. Processing times mentioned do not include transit time by post/courier. Transit times by Courier are generally 1-3 days on average and may be higher in remote or rural areas.
Incomplete applications will lead to an increase in processing time and applicants will need to comply with any changes in the procedure that may occur during this time. Photo Specifications
Photographs should be in colour and strictly as per the specifications below.
- Un-mounted - 2 inch x 2 inch in size.
- Face should cover about 70 to 80% of the photo area.
- Frame Subject with Full Face, Front view, Eyes open
- Taken within the last 6 months to reflect your current appearance.
- The photographs must be clear, well defined and taken against a plain white or light-coloured background.
- Appropriate brightness and contrast showing your skin tones naturally
- Even lighting (no shadows across or behind the face)
- Face must be square to the camera with a neutral expression, neither frowning nor smiling and with your mouth closed.
- If you must wear a head covering for religious reasons, make sure your full facial features are not obscured.
- Non-tinted prescription glasses may be allowed as long as your eyes are clearly visible. Make sure that the frame does not cover any part of your eyes. Sunglasses are not acceptable.
- Headphones, wireless hands-free devices, or similar items are not acceptable in your photo.
- Photograph for Child/babies - The photograph should show the baby or child awake, looking straight at the camera with mouth closed and nothing covering the mouth. It should also show both edges of the face clearly (no toys, blankets, chair backs or other people visible) and no hair across the eyes.

Employment Visa

Overview
1. Who can Apply?
Employment visas are issued to australian passport holders or australian residents (provided the period of residence in Australia is for more than 2 years and subject to the conditions hereunder:
- The applicant is a highly skilled/skilled and qualified professional or person who is being engaged or appointed by a company, organization, industry, or undertaking, etc. in India on contract or employment basis at a senior level, skilled position such as technical expert, senior executive, or in a managerial position, etc.
- Employment Visa would not be considered for jobs for which large number of qualified Indians is available. Furthermore, Employment Visa application would not be considered at all for routine, ordinary or secretarial/clerical jobs.
- The salary of the applicant proposed to be employed should not be less than US$ 25,000 per annum.
- The applicant should be coming for employment in companies registered in India.
- The applicant will have to comply with all other requirements like payment of tax liabilities etc.
- The applicant must submit proof of his/her employment or contract or engagement by the company/organization, etc. in India.
- The applicant must submit documentary proof of his educational qualifications and professional expertise – “Resume copy”.
2. Other categories of applicants eligible for Employment visa
The following categories of applicants may also be eligible for Employment visa subject to the fulfilment of the general conditions mentioned above.
- Applicant coming to India as consultant on contract for whom the Indian company pays a fixed remuneration, (may not be in the form of monthly salary).
- Foreign artists engaged to conduct regular performances for the duration of the employment contract given by Hotels, Clubs, other organizations.
- Foreign nationals who are coming to India to take up employment as coaches.
- Foreign sportsmen who are given contract for a specified period by the Indian Clubs/organizations.
- Self-employed foreign nationals coming to India for providing engineering, medical, accounting, legal or such other highly skilled services in their capacity as independent consultants.
- Foreign language teachers/interpreters.
- Specialist Chefs.
- Foreign nationals visiting India for voluntary work with NGOs.
3. Duration of Employment Visa
An Employment Visa will be valid for entry and stay into India within the period of its validity unless specified otherwise and subject to conditions specified. Validity of an Employment visa will be as under:-
- A foreign technician/expert coming to India in pursuance of a bilateral agreement between the Government of India and a foreign government, or in pursuance of a collaboration agreement that has been approved by the Government of India, may be granted an Employment visa for the duration of the agreement, or for a period of five years, whichever is less with multiple entry facilities.
- A foreigner coming to India for employment not covered in (i) above (and also other than those being employed in IT software and IT enabled sectors) may be granted Employment visa with a validity up to two years or the term of assignment, whichever is less with multiple entry facility.
- In the case of highly skilled/skilled foreign personnel being employed in the IT software and IT enabled sectors, the Missions/Posts may grant visa with validity up to 3 years or the term of assignment, whichever is less with multiple entry facility.
- In case of Employment Visa issued for a period of 180 days or less, registration is not required with FRRO/FRO. The Missions/Posts may issue multiple entry Employment Visas for a period of 180 days or less.
- However, if the Employment visa is valid for a period of more than 180 days, Employment-visa holder must register with the FRRO/FRO concerned within 14 days of arrival. Further extension could be given by authorities in India.
4. Visa to family members of a foreigner granted Employment visa.
Family members/dependants of a foreigner who is granted Employment visa shall be granted `Employment' visa provided the family members are otherwise eligible for grant of such a Visa. Its validity shall be co-terminus with the validity of the visa of the principal visa holder or for such shorter period as may be considered necessary by the Indian Mission.
In the case of applicants from China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and foreign nationals of Pakistani origin (Pakistan nationals not eligible for employment visa) prior clearance of Government of India would be required to issue an Employment Visa.

Film Visa

Overview
Who can Apply?
Foreigners or a foreign team for shooting of feature film or television/cinema and reality TV show/commercial TV show/ commercial TV serials.
Proposals regarding the shooting of a feature film or television/ cinema and reality TV show/ commercial TV serials will be processed in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, who will process the request and take decision within a specific time frame of maximum period of 60 days.Important:
- Foreigners being given Film Visa should adhere to the norms and regulations of foreigner’s guidelines during their stay in the country and visit only the areas permitted for their visit. They should not visit any restricted/ protected area or prohibited place without prior permission of the competent authority.
- Money transaction for shooting of film should be done as per RBI guidelines.
- The visa would be project specific i.e. film specific.
- The international cast and crew coming to India on a Film Visa for the film shoot shall be employed by the Foreign Company seeking permission to shoot the film in India and the said company shall take the responsibility for the cast and crew coming to India for filming. The foreigners coming on Film Visa will have to register himself/ herself with the FRRO/ FRO concerned irrespective of the duration of the Film Visa/ stay of the foreigner in India.
- Considering the fact that the cast and crew may be coming from a country which is not the same as that of the Foreign Production Company which is producing the film, the Indian Mission/Post of that respective country will issue the Film Visa to the concerned person.
- For shooting of documentary film/ advertisement film in India by a foreigner, the procedure for "Journalist Visa" will be applicable.

A Conference visa is granted to a foreigner:
Whose sole objective of visiting India is to attend a conference /seminar or workshop being held in India, Mission/Posts are authorized to issue Conference visas to delegates on production of an invitation to a conference/seminar/workshop being organized in India by a Ministry or Department of the Government of India, State Governments or UT administrations, Public Sector Undertakings, Central Educational Institutions, Public Funded Universities (list of such institutions are Available on the website www.education.nic.in and the websites of the University Grants Commission and Association of Indian Universities), or an organization owned and controlled by the Government of India or any State Government/ UT, United Nations or its specialized agencies.
Conference Organized by NGOs:
In case of Conference being organized by NGOs the following would be the requirement for issue of Conference Visa:
- Approval from Nodal/ Line Ministry of the Central Government or;
- Approval from Nodal/ Line Ministry of the State Government and
- Invitation for Conference from the organizer.
However, Ministry’s approval would be required for all conference visas to foreigners participating in conferences/ seminars/ workshops etc. in the following cases:-
- Participants from Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan, foreigners of Pakistani origin and Stateless persons; and
- Participants of conferences/seminars/workshops who are required to visit 'Restricted' or 'Protected' areas in India.

Overview
Who can Apply?
Transit visas are valid for halts of up to 72 hours in India within 15 days from the date of issue of the visa and must be obtained before departure. Transit Visas cannot be obtained from immigration counters at ports of entry in India. Evidence of onward travel to a destination outside India is required.

- Taken within the last 6 months to reflect your current appearance.
- The photographs must be clear, well defined and taken against a plain white or light-coloured background.
- Appropriate brightness and contrast showing your skin tones naturally
- Even lighting (no shadows across or behind the face)
- Face must be square to the camera with a neutral expression, neither frowning nor smiling and with your mouth closed.
- If you must wear a head covering for religious reasons, make sure your full facial features are not obscured.

Medical & Medical Attendant Visa

Overview
Who can Apply?
Applicants wishing to visit India for medical treatment should apply for Medical Visa (MV). Medical Visa is issued on the basis preliminary medical advice from the country of origin/residence and has been advised to go for specialized treatment. Person accompanying the patient would be issued Medical Attendant Visa (MX). Medical Visa would generally be issued up to 1 year or the period of treatment whichever is less. All applicants visiting India on medical visa are required to get registered within 14 days of arrival with concerned Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO).

Intern Visa

Overview
Who can Apply?
A foreigner intending to pursue internship in Indian companies, Educational Institutions and NGOs.
- The intern visa will be granted after completion of graduation/ post graduation. The gap between the completion of graduation/ post graduation and the commencement of the internship should not exceed one year.
- Intern visa will not be issued for internship in certain strategic sectors.
- Conversion of the Intern visa into Employment visa or any other types of visa will not be permitted.
- Earnings from internship of the foreign nationals with Indian companies/ Educational Institutions/ NGOs will be subject to the Indian Income Tax Regulations.
Duration of visa
The period of visa would be restricted to the duration of the internship programme or one year, whichever is less. -

Visit Visa for Pakistan nationals

Overview
Who can Apply?
Holder of Pakistani passport intending to visit India for tourism purpose or meeting friends and relatives MUST apply for “Visit Visa”. A visit visa can only be granted to a Pakistani national who does not have a resident or occupation in India and whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation, sightseeing, casual visit to meet friends and relatives etc. No other activity is permissible on a visit visa. A visit may be issued normally six months with multiple entries and is non extendible and non convertible. The duration of the visa is the sole discretion of the Authority.
As a national of Pakistan if you are only visiting one city in India, you must submit your application in quadruplet (Four sets). If you are visiting two cities in India, you must submit your application in quintuplet (Five sets). If you are visiting three cities you must submit six sets.
The visas are not issued from the future date to match applicant’s itinerary for inward and outward journey to/from India and are effective from date of issue.

Payment instructions:
For applications sent by Express post/courier to the IPVSCs:
Fees can be paid by Money Order/Postal Order in favour of “VFS Services Australia Pty Ltd” or by card, by completing the “Credit Card Authority form*”, and sending it along your postal application.
For applications submitted by appointment at the IPVSCs:
By cash in AUD or Debit or Credit Card/EFTPOS** Credit/Debit card surcharge of 1.20% applicable for card payments. Only Australian issued Master card or Visa cards are accepted.
Personal cheques will not be accepted at any time.

Photocopy Service:
Save time and protect your valuable original documents with our Photocopying service. The quality of your photocopied documents is extremely important to your application, and with our Photocopying service, you can be sure that your documents are ready for your visa application. We offer fast, high-powered machines working on top-quality paper at our IPVSCs. It’s fast, easy and affordable.
You can get your documents photocopied in Black and White at the IPVSCs at an additional charge of AUD 0.50 per page.
Printing Service:
When you visit the IPVSC, you will be able to make print outs of any documentation you might need for your application or travel.
IPVSC centres provide the service of printing of the Forms/Documents at an additional charge of AUD 1.00 per page.
SMS Service:
Stay updated about your visa application’s status with our SMS service. As a part of this service we send automated messages about your visa application to your mobile phone and automated email messages to the email address you provided in your application form. Read through the SMS Service Disclaimer before requesting for this service.
Note: This service is available for local Australian SMS only at an additional service charge of AUD 2.50

Processing Time
Strictly do not finalize travel plans before receiving the service applied for. Processing times below are average processing times. Please plan your travel accordingly.
VFS Global/Government of India would not be responsible for any inconvenience/problems faced as a result of finalizing travel plans before obtaining the relevant service.
Applicants sending their documents by Post/Courier are requested to ensure that they are completed and meet requirements. Processing times mentioned do not include transit time by post/courier. Transit times by Courier are generally 1-3 days on average and may be higher in remote or rural areas.
Incomplete applications will lead to an increase in processing time and applicants will need to comply with any changes in the procedure that may occur during this time. As a part of Processing Incomplete applications are returned and Courier Return fees will apply. See terms and conditions for further details

Photo Specifications
Photographs should be in colour and strictly as per the specifications below.
- Un-mounted - 2 inch x 2 inch in size.
- Face should cover about 70 to 80% of the photo area.
- Frame Subject with Full Face, Front view, Eyes open
- Taken within the last 6 months to reflect your current appearance.
- The photographs must be clear, well defined and taken against a plain white or light-coloured background.
- Appropriate brightness and contrast showing your skin tones naturally
- Even lighting (no shadows across or behind the face)
- Face must be square to the camera with a neutral expression, neither frowning nor smiling and with your mouth closed.
- If you must wear a head covering for religious reasons, make sure your full facial features are not obscured.
- Non-tinted prescription glasses may be allowed as long as your eyes are clearly visible. Make sure that the frame does not cover any part of your eyes. Sunglasses are not acceptable.
- Headphones, wireless hands-free devices, or similar items are not acceptable in your photo.
- Photograph for Child/babies - The photograph should show the baby or child awake, looking straight at the camera with mouth closed and nothing covering the mouth. It should also show both edges of the face clearly (no toys, blankets, chair backs or other people visible) and no hair across the eyes.
