Who Needs A Visa
PASSPORT HOLDERS WHO ARE EXEMPT FROM VISAS FOR SOUTH AFRICA
SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE
The citizen who is a holder of a national passport (diplomatic, official and ordinary) of the foreign countries / territories / international organisations listed below are not required to hold a visa when reporting to an immigration officer for an examination at a South African port of entry, subject to the terms and conditions set out in this list, including inter alia the intended period of stay in the Republic.
- The holder of a national South African passport, travel document and document for travel purposes.
- The citizen who is a holder of a national passport (diplomatic, official or ordinary) of the following countries / territories / international organisations is not required to hold a visa in respect of purposes for which a port of entry visa may be issued or by virtue of being a person contemplated in section 31(3)(b) [accredited in SA] for an intended stay of 90 days or less and when in transit:
- The citizen who is a holder of a national passport (diplomatic, official and ordinary) of the following countries / territories / international organisations is not required to hold a visa in respect of purposes for which a port of entry visa may be issued or by virtue of being a person contemplated in section 31(3)(b) [accredited in SA] for an intended stay of 30 days or less and when in transit:
- Agreements have also been concluded with the following countries for holders of diplomatic and official passport holders.

- Notwithstanding this Schedule, a foreigner whose visa exemption has been withdrawn shall comply with the visa requirements until notified by the Department that his or her visa exemption has been re-instated by the Department on petition or of its own accord.
- General Work Visas are not required by commercial heavy duty vehicle drivers who are employed by South African companies and originate from countries which enjoy visa free movement into South Africa, on condition that they can produce a letter confirming their employment on entry. In accordance with a High Court ruling by the North Gauteng High Court on 31 March 2011, foreign commercial heavy duty vehicle drivers may be issued with visitor’s visas in terms of section 11(1)(a) of the Immigration Act, with authorisation to conduct work in terms of section 11(2) of the said Act for the period of their visa exemption, which period may not exceed 90 days at a time.
- Port of entry visas are not required by foreign employed commercial heavy-duty vehicle drivers from Lesotho, Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi who are entering the Republic, provided their visits do not exceed the period of their visa exemption and on condition that they can produce a letter confirming their employment with a transport company abroad on entry. Visitor’s visas in terms of section 11(1)(a) of the Immigration Act, with authorisation to conduct work in terms of section 11(2) of the said Act for the period of their visa exemption, which period may not exceed 90 days at a time
- Staff members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) who travel on SADC laissez-passers are exempt from visa requirements for bona fide official business visits up to 90 days and transit.
- The following categories of the UN as well as their spouses, dependent relatives and other members of the households are exempt from visa requirements when visiting the Republic for periods not exceeding 90 days for purposes for which a port of entry visa may be issued, and for official business purposes and transits and when accredited for placement at a UN mission in the Republic for the duration of their accreditation, provided they are in possession of the relevant letters or identification documents to identify themselves at ports of entry as personnel of an UN agency.
- Holders of United Nations Laissez-passers
- Volunteers attached to the UN
- Persons involved in any United Nations agency
- Persons performing services on behalf of the UN
- Members of military forces attending any military related matters with the South African National Defence Force are exempt from visa and study visa requirements; irrespective of their duration of stay provided they are in possession of letters of invitation from the SANDF as well as letters of consent from the military force of which they are members.
- With effect from 18 December 2015 travellers, with the exception of deportees, who transit through O R Tambo International Airport; Cape Town International Airport; King Shaka International Airport and Lanseria International Airport do not require transit visas as contemplated in section 10B(4)(a) of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act No 13 of 2002). However, transiting passengers will be subjected to biometric capturing. Deportees transiting at any port of entry are required to be in possession of a transit visa at all times and must be escorted.
- With effect 16 January 2017, holders of all types of New Zealand passports (diplomatic, official and ordinary) would need to be in possession of visas for purposes of visiting the Republic of South Africa with the exception of those going to transit, please refer to Directive 28 of 2015 or click on transit visas for more details.
Visitor's Visa Less Than Three (3) Months

Overview
- All applicants must apply in person.
- All application forms filled by hand must be original. Scanned copies or signatures of application forms will strictly not be accepted.
- Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Please, bear in mind that failing to meet any of the following requirements will also render the application incomplete (For an application to be considered complete, all couples and families applying together must still provide complete sets of required documents for EACH applicant. This includes copies of bank statements, flight tickets, accommodation, marriage certificate certified copies (where applicable), medical reports (where applicable) and radiological reports (where applicable) for minors and dependants):
- No fixed flight arrangements should be made until the visa has been attained.
- Payment can be made by credit card, debit card (except American Express).
- Only applicants with a UK residential status can apply for a visa.
- Documents issued in a foreign language must be officially translated to English by a sworn translator.
- We strongly recommend that you pay careful attention to the Overview, Documents required and Processing Time sections of your chosen visa category, before proceeding with your application.
- Please be aware that all decisions regarding the issuance of, number of entries and duration of a visa are at the sole discretion of the embassy, and it is not guaranteed that the embassy will grant your request.

- Visa fees are subject to change annually in April.
- A visa fee of £35.00 will be requested. This must be paid only at the visa application centre in person and cannot be paid online. Please see Payment Options below.
- Courier service is mandatory for applications submitted in Manchester and Edinburgh. This can be paid either online or at the visa application centre.
- No personal cheques or company cheques will be accepted.

Documents Required
- Visa application form (DHA-84 Form 11), The application form must be filled in black ink and signed originally (copies are not acceptable for submission).
- Original Passport.
- 2 passport sized photographs; See guidelines on Passport & ID Photograph Specifications
- Valid passport or travel document valid for 30 days after the end of the visit to South Africa. Passport must have at least three (3) blank pages for endorsement purposes, and issued not more than 10 years ago on the date of submission of your visa application.
- Original and copy of current UK Visa or UK Residence Permit BRP Card along with Share code valid for at least 30 days beyond the return date of the trip to the South Africa.
- For EU nationals, proof of UK residency or settlement must be demonstrated. As a proof of address copies of council tax bills, utility bills or bank statements reflecting a UK address to be provided. These documents must be more than 6 months old at the time of application.
- Three months Bank statements with closing balance £600.00 (Must be stamped or accompanied by a verification letter from the bank and should not be older than 7 days)
- Three months Bank statement where the salary is paid Must be stamped or accompanied by a verification letter from the bank and should not be older than 7 days)
- Provisional return flight booking or itinerary with the applicant’s name present.
- Provisional hotel booking covering the whole stay in RSA will be required with the applicant’s name present on the bookings.
- Cover letter explaining purpose of the visit.
- Signed Letter from the current employer (should not be older than 7 days along with 3 months of payslips).
- Signed letter of invitation from the host in RSA with a certified copy of the South African Passport, (the certified copy of the passport should not older than 3 months on the submission date must be submitted). Without the Host ID the application will not be accepted
- If not South African than a Residence Permit in RSA Certified copy of the person representing RSA institution, (the certified copy of the ID should be not older than 3 months on the submission date must be submitted).
- The host must state that the applicant will reside at the host’s residence in the Republic the host must provide a proof of residence i.e utility bills or bank statements reflecting SA address and if the host is financially responsible, he / she must state that all costs related to maintenance and removal of the applicant from the Republic will be covered by the host should it become necessary;
- A yellow fever vaccination certificate, if travelling to or from any other country affected by yellow fever in a space of 14 days before arriving or after leaving RSA. This will be based on whose periodical list of yellow fever countries please be aware that all decisions regarding the issuance of, number of entries and duration of a visa are at the sole discretion of the embassy, and it is not guaranteed that the embassy will grant your request.
In Addition to the above documents if you are applying for: - Business/ Conference/ Training must include below:
- Signed letters from UK & RSA institution (s) confirming the purpose, accommodation details and duration of the visit. Along with certified copy of the South African Passport or South African a Residence Permit in RSA Certified copy of the person representing RSA institution.
- The host must state that the applicant will reside at the host’s residence in the Republic and if the host is financially responsible, he / she must state that all costs related to maintenance and removal of the applicant from the Republic will be covered by the host should it become necessary;
- If not staying with a host, a provisional hotel booking covering the whole stay in RSA will be required with the applicant’s name present on the bookings.
- Kindly note, even if the organisation is covering all expenses, it is a requirement for all applicants attending meetings, conferences and seminars to provide bank statements (90 days, up to the date of application) with at least £600.00 and not older than 7 days.
- Student applying for visitor’s visa studying in UK must include a letter from the university.
- For learners or students, an undertaking to the learning institution for payment of all fees and accommodation from a bursary scheme, scholarship, or parents, as the case may be. Kindly note, even if the organisation is covering all expenses, it is a requirement for all students to provide bank statements (90 days, up to the date of application) with at least £600.00 closing balance
- For minors, certified copy of birth certificate, certified copies of both biological parents’ Passports (main page) and an affidavit signed by both biological parents and certified by a Commissioner of Oaths will be required. Additional documents will be required in case either of the natural parents is unable to sign. Letter of financial support from the parent-sponsoring trip, along with the most recent 90 days’ bank statements from the sponsor (not older than 7 days).
- Divorce decree, where applicable.
- Where applicable, please submit only certified copies of official documents (Example: Marriage certificates and birth certificates)

Processing Time
- The processing time for Visitor's Visas and Transit Visas less than 3 months is:
- London: minimum 10 to 12 working days.
- Manchester and Edinburgh: minimum 14 working days.
- Applicants must apply no longer than 5 weeks before their intended date of travel to RSA.
- Applicants should also note that processing times are minimum as stated, and in some cases may take longer.
- Important: Although applicants are entitled to book an appointment at any given time, to ensure your visa is valid for your journey, please select an appointment date no later than 5 weeks prior to your intended date of travel to RSA.

Overview
- A financial undertaking or support by a foreigner (parents/ spouse of an applicant who is not a South African citizen) is no longer recognized in terms of the South African Immigration Regulations.
- For ALL applicants 18 years and over applying under a visitor’s visa, volunteer visa and accompanying dependents:
- Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Please, bear in mind that failing to meet any of the following requirements will also render the application incomplete (For an application to be considered complete, all couples and families applying together must still provide complete sets of required documents for EACH applicant. This includes copies of bank statements, flight tickets, accommodation, marriage certificate certified copies (where applicable), medical reports (where applicable) and radiological reports (where applicable) for minors and dependants):
- There must be 7 to 10 working days (London) or 12 to 14 working days (Manchester, Edinburgh) before the proposed flight itinerary;
- All applicants must apply in person the forms filled by hand must be original. Scanned copies or signatures of application forms will strictly not be accepted.
- No fixed flight arrangements should be made until the visa has been attained.
- Payment can be made by credit card, debit card (except American Express) Only applicants with a UK residential status can apply for a visa.
- Only applicants with a UK residential status can apply for a visa.
- Documents issued in a foreign language must be officially translated to English by a sworn translator.
- The authorisation cannot be used in lieu of a work permit for an on-going regular work activity.
- When granted, the authorisation should be for specified limited time-frame, to work for a specific entity and at a specific place, for instance, economic, medical, academic, sporting, cultural or social (e.g. religious) application. The specific entity referred to in paragraph (c) above must identify itself and be a bona fide corporate body, medical or academic institution, sports body, social entity or cultural body, and in case of a sports body, cultural body or event, account must be taken of the bona fide of the advertised fixtures or performances and furnish proof.
- An application must be made in writing to the Director-General by the entity for which the applicant will be carrying out work, making the case for why the person cannot make an application for a work permit and furthermore provide reasons why the limited work envisaged is urgent and necessary. 11(2) will not be granted to any given applicant more than twice in a year.
- Section 11(2) authorisation is not a casual work permit, but rather a one-off, non-renewable permission that addresses an immediate short term or urgent need of a limited duration of work activity that cannot be met by an application for a work permit.
- Applicants that are exempted for Short Visit / Transit will still need to apply if they wish to obtain an 11(2) visa.
- An application for Section 11(2) will be deemed invalid if the above information is not made evident. A Section 11(2) will be granted at the discretion of the Director-General or delegated authority when considering an application.
- The following will not qualify for section 11(2) authorisation;
- Freelance or self-employed persons
- Contract workers
- Project managers
- Exotic dancers
- Casual labour
- Seasonal labour
- Work-seekers

Invitation Letter from the prospective employer in South Africa and/or United Kingdom must confirm the following:
- Signed letter of invitation from the host in RSA with a certified copy of the South African Passport, the certified copy of the passport should not older than 3 months on the submission date must be submitted.
- If not South African than a Residence Permit in RSA Certified copy of the person representing RSA institution, the certified copy of the ID should be not older than 3 months on the submission date must be submitted.
- Purpose or necessity of the work;
- Nature of the work;
- Qualification and skills required for the work on the Company Letter;
- Place and Duration of the work;
- CV of the applicant.
- Proof of remuneration or stipend that the foreigner will receive from the employer; Identity and contact details of the prospective employer or relevant contact person from the host institution; along with a Certified Copy of Host Id in SA, no older than 3 moths and/or their Residence Permit in RSA. (Certified by solicitor or police station or commissioner of oaths).
- Proof of accommodation with the applicant’s full name present on the hotel bookings covering the whole stay in RSA will be required. A full hotel address must be specified.
- A letter from bona fide organization undertaking to provide proof of accommodation and sufficient financial means; only applicable to film industry
- May be subjected to the relevant individual terms and conditions, where applicable, be granted subject to a recommendation from any relevant organisation of state;
- Shall not be extended beyond the validity period of the visa issued.
- Documents issued in a foreign language must be officially translated to English by a sworn translator.
- A yellow fever vaccination certificate, if travelling to or from any other country affected by yellow fever in a space of 14 days before arriving or aft leaving RSA. This will be based on WHO’s periodical list of yellow fever countries Please be aware that all decisions regarding the issuance of, number of entries and duration of a visa are at the sole discretion of the embassy, and it is not guaranteed that the embassy will grant your request.
- Where applicable, please submit only certified copies of official documents (Example: Marriage certificates and birth certificates)
- For minors, certified copy of birth certificate, certified copies of both biological parents’ Passports (main page) and an affidavit signed by both biological parents and certified by a Commissioner of Oaths will be required. Additional documents will be required in case either of the natural parents is unable to sign. (The certified copy of the id should not be older than 3 months).
- All Birth Certificates issued in UK must be legalized (apostilled) and certified copy of Apostille must be submitted along with certified copy of the Birth Certificate.

Transit Visa

Overview
- A financial undertaking or support by a foreigner (parents/ spouse of an applicant who is not a South African citizen) is no longer recognized in terms of the South African Immigration Regulations.
- For ALL applicants 18 years and over applying under a visitor’s visa, volunteer visa and accompanying dependents:
- The bank statements must be provided in the applicant’s name and must be sufficient to cover the full duration of their visit / volunteer period in South Africa. The requirement is £600 per month, per person for all short stay visa applications and R8500.00 per month per person for long stay visa applications- accompanying dependents and R3000.00 per month, per person for Volunteer visas.
- If the amount is being transferred to the applicant’s account from the parent’s / spouse account, a letter must be written by the applicant stating that the funds transferred will be used for the sole purpose of their visit in South Africa.
- Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Please, bear in mind that failing to meet any of the following requirements will also render the application incomplete (For an application to be considered complete, all couples and families applying together must still provide complete sets of required documents for EACH applicant. This includes copies of bank statements, flight tickets, accommodation, marriage certificate certified copies (where applicable), medical reports (where applicable) and radiological reports (where applicable) for minors and dependants) :
- All copies of ID/Passport/Residence permit of host in South Africa must be certified copies – that is, certified by the Police in South Africa or a Commissioner of Oaths;
- Invitation letter from host in South Africa must be signed;
- All bank statements must be stamped by the bank, or accompanied by a separate letter from the bank verifying the account, name and address of the client.
- For minors, certified copy of birth certificate, certified copies of both biological parents’ Passports (main page) and an affidavit signed by both biological parents and certified by a Commissioner of Oaths will be required. Additional documents will be required in case either of the natural parents is unable to sign.
- All applicants must apply in person.
- No fixed flight arrangements have to be made until the visa has been attained. Provisional flight tickets are required only if the stay is under 12 months.

Documents Required

- Provisional flight booking to RSA and provisional flight booking into the country/countries of destination. Fixed travel arrangements are not required.
- Original and copy of valid visa/s for the country/countries of destination. If the applicant does not require a visa for said country/countries, proof of this will be required (generally, a printout from the country/countries’ website where it’s clearly stated that the country whose Passport the applicant holds is visa-exempted. The information and URL of the website both need to be clearly discernible).
- For minors, certified copy of birth certificate, certified copies of both biological parents’ Passports (main page) and an affidavit signed by both biological parents and certified by a Commissioner of Oaths will be required. Additional documents will be required in case either of the natural parents is unable to sign;
- A yellow fever vaccination certificate, if travelling to or from any other country affected by yellow fever in a space of 14 days before arriving or after leaving RSA. This will be based on WHO’s periodical list of yellow fever countries).

Overview
- A financial undertaking or support by a foreigner (parents/ spouse of an applicant who is not a South African citizen) is no longer recognized in terms of the South African Immigration Regulations.
- For ALL applicants 18 years and over applying under a visitor’s visa, volunteer visa and accompanying dependents:
- The bank statements must be provided in the applicant’s name and must be sufficient to cover the full duration of their visit / volunteer period in South Africa. The requirement is £600 per month, per person for all short stay visa applications and R8500.00 per month per person for long stay visa applications- accompanying dependents and R3000.00 per month, per person for Volunteer visas.
- If the amount is being transferred to the applicant’s account from the parent’s / spouse account, a letter must be written by the applicant stating that the funds transferred will be used for the sole purpose of their visit in South Africa.
- Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Please, bear in mind that failing to meet any of the following requirements will also render the application incomplete (For an application to be considered complete, all couples and families applying together must still provide complete sets of required documents for EACH applicant. This includes copies of bank statements, flight tickets, accommodation, marriage certificate certified copies (where applicable), medical reports (where applicable) and radiological reports (where applicable) for minors and dependants) :
- All copies of ID/Passport/Residence permit of host in South Africa must be certified copies – that is, certified by the Police in South Africa or a Commissioner of Oaths;
- Invitation letter from host in South Africa must be signed;
- All bank statements must be stamped by the bank, or accompanied by a separate letter from the bank verifying the account, name and address of the client.
- For minors, certified copy of birth certificate, certified copies of both biological parents’ Passports (main page) and an affidavit signed by both biological parents and certified by a Commissioner of Oaths will be required. Additional documents will be required in case either of the natural parents is unable to sign.
- All Birth Certificates issued in UK must be legalized (apostilled) and certified copy of Apostille must be submitted along with certified copy of the Birth Certificate;
- For Birth/Marriage Certificates issued by any other country (not UK) Apostille is not required, certified copy of named certificate will suffice.
- Letter of financial support from the parent sponsoring trip, along with the most recent 90 days bank statements from the sponsor.
- All applicants must apply in person.
- No fixed flight arrangements have to be made until the visa has been attained. Provisional flight tickets are required only if the stay is under 12 months.
- We strongly recommend that you pay careful attention to the Overview, Documents Required and Processing Time sections of your chosen visa category, before proceeding with your application.

WHO SHOULD APPLY FOR THIS VISA?

- A teacher at an international school;
- In respect of films and advertisements produced in South Africa, including, but not limited to, an actor, cameraman, hairstylist, make-up artist or lighting and sound engineer;
- A foreign journalist seconded to the Republic by a foreign news agency;
- A visiting professor or lecturer or an academic researcher;
- An artist who wishes to write, paint or sculpt (a portfolio of previous work will be required);
- A person involved in the entertainment industry, travelling through the Republic to perform;
- A tour leader or host of such a tour; or a foreigner who is required to stay in the Republic in order to testify as a state witness in a criminal court case: Provided that in such a matter, the application shall be initiated by the relevant Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions.

- In addition, an applicant for a general work visa must submit:
- A written undertaking by the employer accepting responsibility for the costs related to the deportation of the applicant and his or her dependent family members, should it become necessary; A written undertaking that the Passport of his or her employee will be valid at all times for the duration of his or her employment. A certificate from the Department of Labour confirming that-
- Despite a diligent search, the prospective employer has been unable to find a suitable citizen or permanent resident with qualifications or skills and experience equivalent to those of the applicant;
- The applicant has qualifications or proven skills and experience in line with the job offer;
- The salary and benefits of the applicant are not inferior to the average salary and benefits of citizens or permanent residents occupying similar positions in the Republic; and
- The contract of employment stipulating the conditions of employment and signed by both the employer and the applicant is in line with the labour standards in the Republic and is made conditional upon the general work visa being approved;
- Proof of qualifications evaluated by SAQA and translated by a sworn translator into one of the official languages of the Republic;
- Full particulars of the employer, including, where applicable, proof of registration of the business with the Commission on Intellectual Property and Companies (CIPC);
- An undertaking by the employer to inform the Director-General should the applicant not comply with the provisions of the Act or conditions of the visa; and
- An undertaking by the employer to inform the Director-General upon the employee no longer being in the employ of such employer or when he or she is employed in a different capacity or role.
- A written undertaking by the employer accepting responsibility for the costs related to the deportation of the applicant and his or her dependent family members, should it become necessary; A written undertaking that the Passport of his or her employee will be valid at all times for the duration of his or her employment. Applicable for all the above: Signed letter of invitation from the host in RSA with a certified copy of the ID or RSA Passport. If not South African, certified copies of main page of the Passport + Residence Permit in RSA Certified copy of the person representing RSA institution not older than 3 months on the submission date must be submitted.
- Unabridged Birth Certificate showing both parents names in respect of dependent children accompanying or joining the applicant in the Republic.

Work Visa: Critical Skills

Overview
- A financial undertaking or support by a foreigner (parents/ spouse of an applicant who is not a South African citizen) is no longer recognized in terms of the South African Immigration Regulations.
- For ALL applicants 18 years and over applying under a visitor’s visa, volunteer visa and accompanying dependents:
- Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Please, bear in mind that failing to meet any of the following requirements, if applicable, will also render the application incomplete (For an application to be considered complete, all couples and families applying together must still provide complete sets of required documents for EACH applicant. This includes copies of bank statements, flight tickets, accommodation, marriage certificate certified copies (where applicable), medical reports (where applicable) and radiological reports (where applicable) for minors and dependants):
- All applicants must apply in person.
- No fixed flight arrangements have to be made until the visa has been attained. Provisional flight tickets are required only if the stay is under 12 months.
- We strongly recommend that you pay careful attention to the, Documents Required and Processing Time sections of your chosen visa category, before proceeding with your application.
- Please be aware that all decisions regarding the issuance of, number of entries and duration of a visa are at the sole discretion of the embassy, and it is not guaranteed that the embassy will grant your request.
- Please note applicants should be aware of the processing time for their chosen category of visa and apply accordingly. Please also note that all processing times are minimum as stated, and in some cases may take longer.
- Payment can be made by credit card, debit card (except American Express) or cash (change may not be available at the time of the application).

- A visa fee of £125.00 will be requested. This must be paid only at the visa application centre in person and cannot be paid online. Please see Payment Options below.
- There is an additional service charge of £40.00 (inclusive of VAT) per application in addition to the visa fees for all applicants. This fee must be paid online only and cannot be paid at the visa application centre. You will be prompted to pay this fee when scheduling your appointment. Please ensure that you bring the email confirmation of proof of payment when attending for your appointment.
- Courier service is mandatory for applications submitted in Manchester and Edinburgh. This can be paid either online or at the visa application centre.

Documents Required
- Visa application form (DHA-1738 Form 8), duly completed, signed and dated. The application form must be filled in black ink and signed originally (copies are not acceptable for submission).
- Original Passport.

- Valid passport or travel document valid for 30 days after the end of the visit to South Africa. Passport must have at least three (3) blank pages for endorsement purposes, and issued not more than 10 years ago on the date of submission of your visa application. Copy of main/bio page of current passport.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the applicant.

- Cover letter.
- Original UK Police clearance certificates is required if the applicants are 18 years and older, of all countries where person resided one year or longer since having attained the age of 18 years and older. (the police certificate should not be older than 6 months). If applicable.
- All other countries, where person resided for one year or longer since having attained the age of 18 must provide Original police clearance certificate from the specific countries. If an applicant holding a different country Passport and have a UK PR residence or Work Visa must provide Original police clearance certificate from the Passport holder country, If the police clearance is not in English, it must be translated in English and both the certificates has to be Original and not older than 6 months.
- Provisional flight tickets with name of the applicant. These will only be required if the applicant is spending less than 6 months in RSA
- Proof of accommodation in South Africa. If the company is providing the accommodation than must get a signed letter confirming the Staying Along with certified copy of the South African Passport or South African a Residence Permit in RSA Certified copy of the person representing RSA institution.
- An application for a critical skills work visa must be accompanied by proof that the applicant falls within the critical skills category in the form of –
- Critical Skills List, see directive
- Professional Accreditation Bodies and Councils, see directive
- Qualification to apply critical Skill Visa Section 19(4) Regulation 18(1) and 18 (5) and Critical Skill List
- A confirmation, in writing, from the professional body, council or board recognised by SAQA in terms of section 13(1)(i) of the National Qualifications Framework
- Act, or any relevant government Department confirming the skills or qualifications of the applicant and appropriate post qualification experience;
- If required by law, proof of application for a certificate of registration with the professional body, council or board recognised by SAQA in terms of section 13(1)(i) of the National Qualifications Framework Act; and
- Proof of evaluation of the foreign qualification by SAQA and translated by a sworn translator into one of the official languages of the Republic.
- A written undertaking by the employer accepting responsibility for the costs related to the deportation of the applicant and his or her dependent family members, should it become necessary (where there is no employer: a written undertaking by the applicant must be provided)
- A written undertaking by the employer to ensure that the passport of his or her employee is valid at all times for the duration of his or her employment (where there is no employer: a written undertaking by the applicant to ensure that the passport of the applicant shall be valid at all times for the duration of his or her temporary visa)
- Signed letter of invitation from the host in RSA with a certified copy of the ID or RSA Passport. If not South African certified copies of Residence Permit in RSA the person representing RSA institution not older than 3 months on the submission date must be submitted.
- A critical skills work visa shall be issued for a period not exceeding 5 years.
- A spouse and dependent children of a holder of a critical skills work visa shall be issued with an appropriate visa valid for a period not exceeding the period of validity of the applicant's critical skills work visa.

Work Visa: Intra Company Transfer

- Letter from the organisation confirming intra-company transfer work visa shall also be accompanied by:
- A written undertaking by the employer accepting responsibility for the costs related to the deportation of the applicant and his or her dependent family members, should it become necessary;
- A written undertaking that the Passport of his or her employee will be valid at all times for the duration of his or her employment.
- The foreigner's contract of employment with the company abroad valid for a period of not less than six months; and a letter from:
- The company abroad confirming that the foreigner shall be transferred to a branch, subsidiary or an affiliate of that company in the Republic; and
- The branch, subsidiary or an affiliate in the Republic confirming the transfer of the foreigner and specifying the occupation and capacity in which that foreigner shall be employed.
- In terms of section 19(5) of the Act, the relevant employer shall ensure that-
- A foreigner is only employed in the specific position for which the visa has been issued;
- The foreign employee will at all times comply with the provisions of the Act and conditions of his or her visa and undertakes to immediately notify the Director-General if the employee refuses to comply with the provisions of the Act or conditions of the visa; and
- A plan is developed for the transfer of skills to a South African citizen or permanent resident.
- An intra-company transfer work visa shall be issued for a period not exceeding four years and is not renewable.
- The company referred to in sub regulation (8)(b)(ii) shall undertake to reimburse the Department any costs incurred in relation to the deportation of the holder of an intra-company transfer work visa and any of his or her dependent family members.
- Signed letter of invitation from the host in RSA with a certified copy of the South African Passport, the certified copy of the passport should not older than 3 months on the submission date must be submitted.
- If not South African than a Residence Permit in RSA Certified copy of the person representing RSA institution, the certified copy of the ID should be not older than 3 months on the submission date must be submitted.

Corporate Visa

Overview
- A financial undertaking or support by a foreigner (parents/ spouse of an applicant who is not a South African citizen) is no longer recognized in terms of the South African Immigration Regulations.
- For ALL applicants 18 years and over applying under a visitor’s visa, volunteer visa and accompanying dependents:
- The bank statements must be provided in the applicant’s name and must be sufficient to cover the full duration of their visit / volunteer period in South Africa. The requirement is £600 per month, per person for all short stay visa applications and R8500.00 per month per person for long stay visa applications- accompanying dependents and R3000.00 per month, per person for Volunteer visas.
- If the amount is being transferred to the applicant’s account from the parent’s / spouse account, a letter must be written by the applicant stating that the funds transferred will be used for the sole purpose of their visit in South Africa.
- Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Please, bear in mind that failing to meet any of the following requirements will also render the application incomplete (For an application to be considered complete, all couples and families applying together must still provide complete sets of required documents for EACH applicant. - All bank statements must be stamped by the bank, or accompanied by a separate letter from the bank verifying the account, name and address of the client.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

- Police clearance certificates (Original document) in respect of applicants 18 years and older, in respect of all countries where person resided one year or longer since having attained the age of 18.
- Marriage certificate or in the case of a foreign spousal relationship, proof of official recognition thereof issued by the authorities of the country concerned, if available.
- The affidavit where a spousal relationship to a South African citizen or resident is applicable, as well as documentation proving cohabitation and the extent to which the related financial responsibilities are shared by the parties and setting out the particulars of children in the spousal relationship. Please see affidavit in respect of heterosexual and homosexual relationships
- Divorce decree, where applicable.
- A yellow fever vaccination certificate, if travelling to or from any other country affected by yellow fever in a space of 14 days before arriving or after leaving RSA. This will be based on WHO’s periodical list of yellow fever countries).
- The Director-General may issue to the corporate applicant-
- A corporate visa for a period not exceeding three years on Form 14 illustrated in Annexure A; and
- Authorisation certificates to employ corporate workers, in terms of the corporate visa contemplated in paragraph (a), for a period not exceeding the validity period of the corporate visa.
SPECIFIC DOCUMENTS
- An application for a corporate worker certificate must be accompanied by:
- A valid Passport of the applicant; The certificate contemplated in sub regulation (8)(b);
- A valid employment contract;
- A written undertaking by the corporate applicant to ensure that the foreigner departs from the Republic upon termination of his or her contract of employment or accepting responsibility for the return or costs related to the deportation of the foreigner should it become necessary;
- The documentation contemplated in regulation 9(1)(b), (c) and (f);
- Proof of qualifications evaluated by SAQA, and translated by a sworn translator into one of the official languages of the Republic, or skills and experience in line with the job offer; and
- A certificate of registration with the professional body, council or board recognised by SAQA in terms of section 13(1) (i) of the National Qualifications Framework Act.
- The Director-General may issue to the corporate worker employed by the holder of a corporate visa contemplated in sub regulation (8) a corporate worker certificate for a period not exceeding the validity period of the corporate visa.
- A corporate worker may not renew his or her corporate worker certificate or apply for a change of status in the Republic.
- Unabridged Birth Certificate showing both parents names in respect of dependent children accompanying or joining the applicant in the Republic.

- Visas issued for studies at a learning institution, other than a school contemplated in section 1 of the South African Schools Act, 1996 (Act No. 84 of 1996), shall be issued for the duration of the course for which the applicant has registered;
- Visas issued for studies at a learning institution, which is a school contemplated in section 1 of the South African Schools Act, 1996 (Act No. 84 of 1996), shall be valid for the duration of the period of study: Provided that the study visa issued for studies at a primary school shall not exceed eight years and for a secondary school shall not exceed six years
- The holder of a study visa at a learning institution as defined in section 1 of the Higher Education Act, 1997 (Act No. 101 of 1997) and section 1 of the Further Education and Training Colleges Act, 2006 (Act No. 16 of 2006), may conduct part-time work for a period not exceeding 20 hours per week.
- A study visa issued in terms of the Act shall automatically lapse if the holder thereof fails to register with or is de-registered from the learning institution at any time during the period for which his or her visa has been issued or if any of the undertakings referred to in sub regulation (1)(b) are not met.

- If an applicant holding a different country Passport and have a UK PR residence or Work Visa must provide Original police clearance certificate from the Passport holder country, If the police clearance is not in English, it must be translated in English and both the certificates has to be Original and not older than 6 months.
- Provisional flight tickets with name of the applicant. These will only be required if the applicant is spending less than 6 months in RSA.
- Proof of accommodation in South Africa.
- Cover letter from the applicant. Explaining the trip and duration
- Bank statements/ transactions for recent three months (covering full period of 90 days) – up to date, showing at least 8,500 ZAR per month. If the applicant has Savings account to show sufficient balance, it can be submitted. The latest transaction shown must not be older than 7 working days from the submission day.
- An official letter confirming provisional acceptance or acceptance at that learning institution and the duration of the course;
- An undertaking by the Registrar or Principal of the learning institution to-
- Provide proof of registration as contemplated in the relevant legislation within 60 days of registration; or
- In the event of failure to register by the closing date, provide the Director- General with a notification of failure to register within 7 days of the closing date of registration;
- Within 30 days of de-registration, notify the Director-General that the applicant is no longer registered with such institution; and
- Within 30 days of completion of studies, notify the Director-General when the applicant has completed his or her studies or requires to extend such period of study;
- Proof of medical cover renewed annually for the period of study with a medical scheme registered in terms of the Medical Schemes Act;
- In the case of a learner under the age of 18 years-
- An unabridged birth certificate
- A copy of his or her identity document, if applicable;
- The certificate contemplated in sub regulation (8)(b);
- Proof of physical address and contact number of the adult person residing in the Republic, who is acting or has accepted to act as such learner's guardian, including a confirmatory letter from that guardian; and
- For minors, certified copy of birth certificate, certified copies of both biological parents’ Passports (main page) and an affidavit signed by both biological parents and certified by a Commissioner of Oaths will be required. Additional documents will be required in case either of the natural parents is unable to sign.
- Letter of financial support from the parent sponsoring trip, along with the most recent 90 days’ bank statements from the sponsor.
- All Birth Certificates issued in UK must be legalized (apostilled) and certified copy of Apostille must be submitted along with certified copy of the Birth Certificate.
- In the case of a foreign state accepting responsibility for the applicant in terms of a bilateral agreement, a written undertaking from such foreign state to pay for the departure of the applicant;
- An undertaking by the parents or legal guardian that the learner will have medical cover for the full duration of the period of study; and
- Proof of a minimum monthly income of 8500 Rand (£450) will be required to cover basic food and accommodation whilst the learner resides in RSA. [Parents may sponsor a student up to the age of 25 by providing their own bank statements (3 months, stamped, not older than 7 days), a certified copy of their Passport and a certified copy of the student’s birth certificate)].
- A yellow fever vaccination certificate, if travelling to or from any other country affected by yellow fever in a space of 14 days before arriving or after leaving RSA. This will be based on WHO’s periodical list of yellow fever countries).
- Important – All marriage and birth certificates (where applicable) must be authenticated by means of an apostille from the issuing authority. Certified copies of the same by a solicitor will not be acceptable:

- A certificate issued by a chartered accountant registered with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants or a professional accountant registered with the South African Institute of Professional Accountants to the effect that-
- An application for a business visa by a foreigner, who intends to establish a business or invest in a business that is not yet established in the Republic, must also be accompanied by:
- At least an amount in cash to be invested in the Republic as determined from time to time by the Minister, after consultation with the Minister of Trade and Industry, by notice in the Gazette, is available; or
- At least an amount in cash and a capital contribution to be invested in the Republic as determined from time to time by the Minister, after consultation with the Minister of Trade and Industry, by notice in the Gazette, is available; or
- An undertaking by the applicant that at least 60% of the total staff complement to be employed in the operations of the business shall be South African citizens or permanent residents employed permanently in various positions: Provided that proof of compliance with this undertaking shall be submitted within 12 months of issuance of the visa;
- An undertaking to register with the:
- South African Revenue Service;
- Unemployment Insurance Fund;
- Compensation Fund for Occupational Injuries and Diseases;
- Companies and Intellectual Properties Commission (CIPC), where legally required; and
- Relevant professional body, board or council recognised by SAQA in terms of section 13(1) (i) of the National Qualifications Framework Act, where applicable. provided that upon registration, all certificates shall be submitted to the Director-General;
- A letter of recommendation from the Department of Trade and Industry regarding:
- The feasibility of the business,
- contribution to the national interest of the Republic.
- A foreigner who invests or has invested in an existing business shall, in addition to complying with sub regulation (2), submit
- Financial statements in respect of the preceding financial year; and
- Proof of investment.
The applicant must, within 12 months of the visa being issued, submit to the Director-General a letter of confirmation from the Department of Labour that 60% of the staff complement employed in the operations of the business are South African citizens or permanent residents who are employed permanently in various positions.
If received an invitation from RSA to open up a Business than must include a below documents.
- Signed letter of invitation from the host in RSA with certified copy of the ID of host within 3 months and/or residential status in RSA.

Medical Treatment Visa

Overview
- A financial undertaking or support by a foreigner (parents/ spouse of an applicant who is not a South African citizen) is no longer recognized in terms of the South African Immigration Regulations.
- For ALL applicants 18 years and over applying under a visitor’s visa, volunteer visa and accompanying dependents:
- The bank statements must be provided in the applicant’s name and must be sufficient to cover the full duration of their visit / volunteer period in South Africa. The requirement is £600 per month, per person for all short stay visa applications and R8500.00 per month per person for long stay visa applications- accompanying dependents and R3000.00 per month, per person for Volunteer visas.

- The estimated costs of the treatment;
- Whether or not the disease or ailment is treatable or curable;

- The period of intended treatment in the Republic;
- The details of, and confirmation by, the person or institution responsible for the medical expenses and hospital fees: Provided that in a case where the applicant's medical scheme or employer is not liable for expenses incurred, proof of financial means to cover the medical costs shall be submitted;
- The particulars of persons accompanying the applicant;
- Valid return air flight tickets, where applicable; and
- Proof of sufficient financial means or provision for the costs indirectly related to the treatment, in the form of bank statements (last 3 months, not older than 7 days, stamped or with verification letter from the bank).

- Proof of accommodation in South Africa.
- 3 months Bank statements, showing the income of 37,000 Rand per month (not older than 7 days, stamped or with verification letter from the bank).
- The minimum payment to a foreigner contemplated in section 20(1) (a) of the Act shall be 37,000 Rand per month, the amount determined from time to time by the Minister by notice in the Gazette.
- The net worth contemplated in section 20(1) (b) of the Act shall be a combination of assets realising 37,000 Rand per month, the amount determined from time to time by the Minister by notice in the Gazette.
- In order to prove this steady monthly income of 37,000 Rand, bank statements alone will not be sufficient. Must provide additional proof of income – Assets / Pension letters / Investments / Capital Bonds / salary slips, and a written proof of every claim of income made during the application will be required. (All the documents should be the recent one not older than 7 days from the date of your submission. (Pension letter must be signed).
- Marriage certificate or in a case of foreign spousal relationship, proof of official recognition thereof issued by the authorities of the foreign country of the applicant (where applicable).
- Affidavit where a spousal relationship to a South African citizen or resident is applicable as well as documentation proving cohabitation and the extent to which the related financial responsibilities are shared by the parties and setting out the particulars of children in the spousal relationship.

Overview
- A financial undertaking or support by a foreigner (parents/ spouse of an applicant who is not a South African citizen) is no longer recognized in terms of the South African Immigration Regulations.
- For ALL applicants 18 years and over applying under a visitor’s visa, volunteer visa and accompanying dependents:
- The bank statements must be provided in the applicant’s name and must be sufficient to cover the full duration of their visit / volunteer period in South Africa. The requirement is £600 per month, per person for all short stay visa applications and R8500.00 per month per person for long stay visa applications- accompanying dependents and R3000.00 per month, per person for Volunteer visas.
- If the amount is being transferred to the applicant’s account from the parent’s / spouse account, a letter must be written by the applicant stating that the funds transferred will be used for the sole purpose of their visit in South Africa.
- Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Please, bear in mind that failing to meet any of the following requirements will also render the application incomplete (For an application to be considered complete, all couples and families applying together must still provide complete sets of required documents for EACH applicant. This includes copies of bank statements, flight tickets, accommodation, marriage certificate certified copies (where applicable), medical reports (where applicable) and radiological reports (where applicable) for minors and dependants) :
- All copies of ID/Passport/Residence permit of host in South Africa must be certified copies – that is, certified by the Police in South Africa or a Commissioner of Oaths;
- Invitation letter from host in South Africa must be signed;
- All bank statements must be stamped by the bank, or accompanied by a separate letter from the bank verifying the account, name and address of the client.

- A signed cover letter from the spouse confirming the financial support and accommodation along with spouse’s passport / south Africa visa (the certified copy should not be older than 3 months).
- The financial assurance contemplated in section 18(1) of the Act shall be an amount, per person and per month, as determined from time to time by the Minister by notice in the Gazette (currently 8,500 ZAR per month), to be proven by means of certified bank statements of 3 months, (not older than 7 days, stamped or with a verification letter from the bank).
- Certified copy of the marriage certificate apostilled (if the certificate is not in English than It must be sworn translated and must submit the original).
- If unmarried, the must be in relationships for 2 years to be eligible to apply.
- Original relationship affidavit (DHA –Form 12) must be completed and certified by the commissioner of oaths. A notarial agreement must be submitted.
- The affidavit where a spousal relationship to a South African citizen or resident is applicable, as well as documentation proving cohabitation and the extent to which the related financial responsibilities are shared by the parties and setting out the particulars of children in the spousal relationship. - Proof of relationship, within the second step, between the applicant and the citizen or permanent resident as contemplated in section 18(1) of the Act in the form
- An unabridged birth certificate; and
- Where necessary, paternity test results
Minors
- A signed cover letter from the spouse confirming the financial support and accommodation.
- 3 months Bank statements of the Parents with the latest transaction showing at least 8,500 ZAR per month (statements not older than 7 days).
- Certified copies of both biological parents’ Passports/ South Africa Visa (main page) and an affidavit signed by both biological parents and certified by a Commissioner of Oaths will be required. Additional documents will be required in case either of the natural parents is unable to sign. (the certified copy should not be older than 3 months)
- If a minor child subject to guardianship or custody is accompanying the applicant or joining the applicant in South Africa, then proof of guardianship and custody is required

For Life Partners of SA (not married) citizen they will need to undergo an interview. (Provide available dates for interview if they can-The embassy notifies them). No need if they have a marriage certificate.

- An Applicant must be under 25 year of age to obtain the visa.
- A financial undertaking or support by a foreigner (parents/ spouse of an applicant who is not a South African citizen) is no longer recognized in terms of the South African Immigration Regulations.

Please, bear in mind that failing to meet any of the following requirements will also render the application incomplete (For an application to be considered complete, all couples and families applying together must still provide complete sets of required documents for EACH applicant. This includes copies of bank statements, flight tickets, accommodation, marriage certificate certified copies (where applicable), medical reports (where applicable) and radiological reports (where applicable) for minors and dependants) :

- The foreign state institution or education and training institution confirming the particulars of the applicant, the applicant's enrolment with the foreign education and training institution, and the date on which the programme shall commence
- In the case of sojourn not exceeding 12 months, submission of proof of a valid return air ticket. A person who is unable to comply with the requirement to submit proof of a valid return ticket may be required to make a deposit; provided that such deposit shall be refunded to the depositor after the final departure of the applicant or after a permit contemplated in section 25 of the Act has been issued to the applicant; provided further that the payment of the deposit may be effected by means of a bank guaranteed cheque or credit card at places where such facility exists
- A written undertaking letter from the organisation of state learning institution or an employer accepting the responsibility for the return or deportation costs of the applicant. As the case may be.
- Proof of medical insurance cover for the duration of the exchange program with medical scheme registered in the Act 1998, (Act no 31 1998).
- A letter from the department of the basic education, or higher education and a training, or the learning institution in republic confirming that it is responsible for organising or administering the existence of the program, outlining the activities, teams and condition, and the duration therefor accepting a full responsibility for the student whilst he or she is in RSA.
- The foreign state institution or education and training institution confirming the particulars of the applicant, the applicant's enrolment with the foreign education and training institution, and the date on which the programme shall commence
- In the case of a programme of cultural, economic or social exchange organised administered by the organisation of the state or learning institution, in conjunction with a learning intuition or a foreign state institution.
- Certified copy of the person representing RSA institution, exchange programme should provide certified copy of the ID can be South African Passport, If not South African than a Residence Permit. (please note the ID should be not older than 3 months on the submission date must be submitted.
- An organisation of state or a learning institution shall report to the Director-General as contemplated in section 22(a) of the Act and provide information on Form 16 illustrated in Annexure A
- For minors, certified copy of birth certificate, certified copies of both biological parents’ Passports (main page) and an affidavit signed by both biological parents and certified by a Commissioner of Oaths will be required. - Signed letter of invitation from the host in RSA with a certified copy of the ID or RSA Passport. If not South African, certified copies of main page of the Passport + Residence Permit in RSA Certified copy of the person representing RSA institution not older than 3 months on the submission date must be submitted.
- If not South African than a Residence Permit in RSA Certified copy of the person representing RSA institution, the certified copy of the ID should be not older than 3 months on the submission date must be submitted.
- Proof of non-remunerative voluntary or charitable activities to be undertaken in the form of an official letter (on letter-headed paper) by the organisation.
- 3 months of Bank statements with a minimum balance of 8,500 ZAR per month, multiplied by the total number of months that you will be volunteering in South Africa. For example, if you are volunteering for a period of 10 months in South Africa, you must demonstrate total sufficient funds by multiplying 8,500 ZAR into 10 months or the GBP equivalent of the same. PERMANENT RESIDENCE PERMIT

Overview
- A financial undertaking or support by a foreigner (parents/ spouse of an applicant who is not a South African citizen) is no longer recognized in terms of the South African Immigration Regulations.
- For ALL applicants 18 years and over applying under a visitor’s visa, volunteer visa and accompanying dependents:
- The bank statements must be provided in the applicant’s name and must be sufficient to cover the full duration of their visit / volunteer period in South Africa. The requirement is £600 per month, per person for all short stay visa applications and R8500.00 per month per person for long stay visa applications- accompanying dependents and R3000.00 per month, per person for Volunteer visas.
- If the amount is being transferred to the applicant’s account from the parent’s / spouse account, a letter must be written by the applicant stating that the funds transferred will be used for the sole purpose of their visit in South Africa.
- Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Please, bear in mind that failing to meet any of the following requirements will also render the application incomplete (For an application to be considered complete, all couples and families applying together must still provide complete sets of required documents for EACH applicant. - If you are applying for a Permanent Residence-Relatives Permit, you must show a minimum of 8,500ZAR per month to prove you have sufficient funds. This should be in the form of bank statements for the last 3 months, or salary slips.
Please print and complete the required fingerprint form Here, and take the completed form to the South Africa High Commission, Consular Section, 15 Whitehall, London, SW1A 2DD between 08:45 – 11:45 (no appointment necessary).
Alternately, please contact New Scotland Yard in London, who will be able to advise the nearest police station where you will also be able to complete this process. Please note an appointment may be required for this.

APPLICATION FOR DETERMINATION /CONFIRMATION OF PERMANENT RESIDENCE STATUS IN SOUTH AFRICA.
The Department of Home Affairs does not issue duplicate of permanent residence permit.
They can issue a letter stating your status of permanent residence.
In order to process your request, kindly submit the following:
- The enclosed form DHA-839 Form 46 duly completed. The application form must be filled in black ink and signed originally (copies are not acceptable for submission).
- 11. A detailed letter stating the reasons for leaving SA and wishing to return now.
- 12. Passport copies showing all the dates of entry and dates of departure from the republic (i.e every time you entered and left SA, even if it was for a holiday)
- 13. Copy of your immigration permit.
- 14. Processing fee of £8.00 (each) payable by credit/debit card (except American Express) High Commission does not accept cash, cheques, card payments and Scottish Currency.
- 15. If you are married / divorced to a South African citizen, please submit a copy of your marriage certificate and divorce decree.
All the documents must be submitted at any of the VFS centres only. There is no need for an appointment for this purpose; a walk-in service between 08:30 to 14:30 is available.

Visa Fees
- There is no set fee/admin fine. The amount is determined by the port of entry and is linked to the number of days the applicant overstayed in South Africa.
- For overstay appeals, please do not visit the Visa Application Centre. The appeal must be submitted by email only to [email protected]
- For confirmation that the appeal has been received, applicant may contact the IMS Operational Centre at 012 406-4586

Documents Required
- Original Passport where the fine was stamped,
- Notice of fine incurred and;
- Signed motivation why the fine should be retracted.
- In the event that the reason is that an application for extension was made and the outcome not received at the time of departure, a copy of the receipt issued and proof of payment.

- There is no waiver fee.
- There is a no service charge for Waiver applications.
- Customer can walk in for this service.
- The Special Delivery facility for the return of Passports is available at a fee of £23.50 (Inclusive of VAT) per application. This is an optional service for applications made in London; however it is mandatory service for applications taken in Edinburgh and Manchester. This can be paid either online or at the visa application centre by cash, debit/credit card (except American Express), or bank draft payable to ‘VF Services UK Limited'

Documents Required
In order to satisfy the Director-General that the issuing of a work permit to a foreigner would
- Promote economic growth and would not be to the disadvantage of South African citizens or permanent residents, documentary proof must be submitted that a diligent search had been done and that the employer had been unable to employ a South African with qualifications orskills and experience equivalent to those of the applicant. This requirement is satisfied by means of:
- An advertisement in the national printed media, which would afford South African citizens and permanent residents the opportunity to compete for the position.
- In terms of section 31(2)(c) of the Act, the Minister may, for good cause, waive any prescribed requirement or form.

Should a foreigner thus not be able to comply with the above requirements, he/she or the employer may request the Minister to exempt the applicant from submitting the relevant document(s). The following documents have to accompany this application:
- A letter signed by the employer, citing the requirements to be waived and a comprehensive motivation for each requirement
- A copy of the applicant's curriculum vitae.
- The applicant’s Passport (including all temporary residence permits affixed therein).
- A certified copy of the employment contract signed by both the employer and the employee
- Background on the company/institution for record purposes.
Should the request be considered favourably, a letter will be forwarded to the applicant or his/her employer, which has to be submitted with the application and remaining requirements at the nearest VFS – South Africa Visa Application Centre.
