An airport transit visa is required from certain travelers to go through the international transit area of airports, without actually entering the national territory of the country concerned, during a stop-over or transfer between two stages of an international flight. The requirement to have such a visa is an exception to the general right to transit without a visa through the international transit area.

Original documents and photocopies

When you plan to visit the visa service center to submit your visa application, you must carry all original documents and their photocopies. Visa service center staff will accept photocopies only after checking the original documents.

Please ensure that the photocopies are of good quality and can be read easily.

If you do not provide all required documents, it might be difficult for the embassy staff to assess your application accurately, which may result in your application being delayed or refused.

Translated documents

You also have to provide a translation of any supporting documents that are not in English or German. If you do not provide a translation of your supporting documents, it might be difficult for the staff of Austrian Embassy in Moscow to assess your application accurately, which may result in your application being delayed or refused.

Each translated document must contain:

• confirmation that it is an accurate translation of the original document
• the date of the translation
• the translator's full name and signature
• the translator's contact details

Note: You can also make the translations of any document if you are able to do so. Translation must be the true copy of the original document. You must understand that if the translation is not correct then it may result your application being delayed/ refused.

If you can’t prepare the translation in advance, you can use our service “Document translation” in the visa application service.

When can you provide your documents?

Austrian embassy will only consider documents submitted with your application. You cannot submit documents after you have completed your application at the service centre, unless our staff asks you for them.

If you do not have a document

You should check that you have all the relevant documents that you want the visa officer to see before you apply for a visa. This is because it is your responsibility to satisfy the visa officer that you qualify for the visa that you have applied for.

If you do not have a document that is listed here, or that you think might be relevant to your application, you should explain why you do not have it. You must not provide a false document. Staff at the visa service centre will put his/her remarks on the checklist in case of deficiency of required documents.

If you provide a false document, it may result of your application being refused.

If You are a citizen of Russian Federation and you are not leaving an airport area, You won’t need a transit visa.

1. Application form

   One (1) completed and signed visa application form duly filled in English or German. Application form have to be signed by a person who submits documents.

   Application form for children:

   Each child has to have a separate application form even if his or her name entered on mother’s passport. Minors (before 18) must have a signature in application form at least one of the parents/legal guardian.

   If you can’t prepare the Visa Application form by yourself, our manager can fill the Visa application form for you.

2. Travel document

   Valid passport with 2 expanded empty pages or 1 sheet, the copy of first page of foreign passport with personal data. The passport validity of at least three (3) months after expiry of the visa.

   The copies of all Schengen Visas for the whole period of live.

   If you need to annul your previous Schengen visa please fill in an annulation form .

3. Two photographs

   Requirements: Your visa application photos must meet certain criteria regarding size and content. Submitting photos that do not meet these criteria can delay the visa application process.

   If you haven’t opportunity to make photo in advance, you can make photo in our VAC.

4. Insurance

   Travel, health and accident insurance for the entire period with a Minimum coverage of € 30.000, - and valid throughout the Schengen area. Insurance policies have to be purchased from the companies accredited and are listed on the website of Austrian Embassy in Moscow. Very Important that the insurance policy covers all risks.

5. Copy of the internal passport (not for children less than 14 years old): pages concerning the applicant's biodata, foreign passport(s) issued to him/her, registration in Russia and page 14 with or without marks.
6. In cases of minors.
   • Copy of the birth certificate.
   • Consent of the parental authority or legal guardian done by a notary public, only if the minor travels alone or only with one parent. In cases of a single parent holding the parental authority alone (i.e. when the other parent has deceased or has been deprived of custody, the death certificate or the court decree is requested). Consent letter from parents should be original plus copy.
   • Copy of the valid Schengen visa of the parent(s) travelling with the minor in case the visas are not applied for at the same time. If documents are submitted by parents for their child, and each parent has opened Schengen visa in that case they should add booking where should be mentioned surnames, names of guests who will stay in a hotel, tickets of flight and departure.

7. In cases of third-country nationals proof of legal residence in the Russian Federation in line with federal legislation (e.g. residence permit, long-term Russian visa and registration), valid for at least three months after the planned return from the Schengen area or a document proving that the applicant has applied for a renewal of the proof of legal residence

   If the applicant is not a resident in the Russian Federation, he/she needs to submit proof of legal presence in the Russian Federation (e.g. visa) and a written justification for submitting the visa application in the Russian Federation instead of the country of residence

8. Additional required documents:
   • If applicable, visa or other entry permit for the country of destination.
   • Tickets for onward journey (unless travelling by own means of transport, e.g. car) Proof of employment (with salary information); if not available:
     • other proof of financial means (e.g. original of bank/credit statement(s) covering at least three preceding months) and
     • will to return (proof of real estate/property in Russia)

Overview

When applying for a visa, you are required to bring 2 photographs as part of completing and submitting your visa application.

Photo Requirements

General requirements

• Photo for each visa applicant must be an un mounted, full face photo as described below
• Photo must be taken within the last 6 months, for small children within the last 3 months..

Photo size: Photo submitted must measure as below mentioned

• 35 mm x 45 mm with the head centered in the frame.
• The head (measured from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin) should measure about 30 mm

Photo Appearance

• The photo must be a full-face front view in which the visa applicant is facing the camera directly, with closed mouth, without smile.
• The face should cover about 70-80 percent of the photo area.
• The photo must be in color, made on matte or glossy paper and have only a white background. Photos with dark, busy, or patterned backgrounds will not be accepted.
• In general, the applicant's head, including both face and hair, should be shown from the crown of the head to the tip of the chin on top and bottom and from hairline side-to-side. It is preferable that ears be exposed.
• Sunglasses or other wear, which detracts from the face, are not acceptable unless required for medical reasons (an eye patch, for example).
• A photo depicting a person wearing a traditional facemask or veil that does not permit adequate identification is not acceptable.

Description

If you plan to go to Austria as a tourist for a period not to exceed 90 days and your country is not on the visa-free list, you need a Schengen travel visa (Visa C). This visa is not a work permit.
Please note that in order to apply for a travel visa at the Austrian Embassy, your only destination or your main destination (longest duration of stay) must be Austria. In the absence of a main destination (e.g. same duration of stay in two or more countries) you can apply at any of these countries but it is recommended that you apply at the country of first entry because your passport will show the entry stamp of your first destination only

     • Proof of itinerary (e.g. a confirmation of the booking of an organised trip or any other appropriate document indicating the envisaged travel plans such as a return ticket, paid flight ticket, if not available, adequate written description of the planned journey.
       
       In case the embassy considers the supported proof of accommodation and/or proof of itinerary not to be sufficient, the applicant can be requested to submit a proof of payment for the accommodation and/or the means of transport.
     • Financial documents:
       • For working staff: original of proof of employment (with salary information); if not available, and as additional financial document other proof of financial means and will to return (e.g. original of bank/credit card statement(s) covering at least three preceding months, proof of real estate property in Russia);

       • For individual employers:

         Reference of firm registration

         A relevant extract from bank account of the firm, not earlier than 3 month.

       • For minors: (Before giving the sponsorship letter , attach a first page copy of national passport.)

         The reference from school, educational institution
         Sponsor letter with a copy of national passport of Sponsor,

     • Proof of the itinerary, e.g. appropriate document indicating the envisaged travel plans such as a reserved train return ticket, paid flight ticket (if the reserved accommodation/return ticket is not deemed sufficient, the Embassy may require proof of payment thereof); if not available, adequate written description of the planned journey.
     • Financial documents:
       • For working staff: original of proof of employment (with salary information); if not available, and as additional financial document other proof of financial means and will to return (e.g. original of bank/credit card statement(s) covering at least three preceding months, proof of real estate property in Russia);

       • For individual employers:

         Reference of firm registration

   • Medical Treatment

     For patients:

     • Medical invitation form completed and signed by the hospital or the attending physician

       In general the original medical invitation form should be presented. Alternatively, the hospital may send the medical invitation form in advance to the central Embassy mailbox for medical cases [email protected]. Please note that only the hospital or the attending physician - not third parties or private companies - are allowed to send the invitation from their official e-mail address to [email protected].

     • Proof of accommodation (for example hotel booking or confirmation from the hospital that the patient will be accommodated in the hospital).
     • Proof of financing of medical treatment and accommodation (either
       • original of bank statement covering at least 3 preceding months indicating an amount that corresponds to the costs of treatment and accommodation

       • confirmation from the hospital on full advance payment of treatment costs + original of bank account indicating an amount that corresponds to the costs of accommodation)

     • Proof of will to return (e.g. proof of employment; proof of real estate property in Russia, minor child in Russia)
   For accompanying persons:

   • Medical invitation form completed and signed by the hospital or the attending physician

     In general the original medical invitation form should be presented. Alternatively, the hospital may send the medical invitation form in advance to the central Embassy mailbox for medical cases [email protected]. Please note that only the hospital or the attending physician - not third parties or private companies - are allowed to send the invitation from their official e-mail address to [email protected].

   • Proof of accommodation (e.g. hotel reservation; confirmation of accommodation in clinic)
   • Proof of financial means (e.g. original of bank/credit card statement(s) covering at least three preceding months)
   • Proof of will to return (e.g. proof of employment, proof of real estate/property in Russia)

Photo Requirements

General requirements

• Photo for each visa applicant must be an un mounted, full face photo as described below
• Photo must be taken within the last 6 months, for small children within the last 3 months..

Photo size: Photo submitted must measure as below mentioned

• 35 mm x 45 mm with the head centered in the frame.
• The head (measured from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin) should measure about 30 mm

Photo Appearance

• The photo must be a full-face front view in which the visa applicant is facing the camera directly, with closed mouth, without smile.
• The face should cover about 70-80 percent of the photo area.
• The photo must be in color, made on matte or glossy paper and have only a white background. Photos with dark, busy, or patterned backgrounds will not be accepted.
• In general, the applicant's head, including both face and hair, should be shown from the crown of the head to the tip of the chin on top and bottom and from hairline side-to-side. It is preferable that ears be exposed.
• Sunglasses or other wear, which detracts from the face, are not acceptable unless required for medical reasons (an eye patch, for example).
• A photo depicting a person wearing a traditional facemask or veil that does not permit adequate identification is not acceptable.

Description

Original documents and photocopies

When you plan to visit the visa service center to submit your visa application, you must carry all original documents and their photocopies. Visa service center staff will accept photocopies only after checking the original documents.

Please ensure that the photocopies are of good quality and can be read easily.

If you do not provide all required documents, it might be difficult for the embassy staff to assess your application accurately, which may result in your application being delayed or refused.

Translated documents

You also have to provide a translation of any supporting documents that are not in English or German. If you do not provide a translation of your supporting documents, it might be difficult for the staff of Austrian Embassy in Moscow to assess your application accurately, which may result in your application being delayed or refused.

Each translated document must contain:

• confirmation that it is an accurate translation of the original document
• the date of the translation
• the translator's full name and signature
• the translator's contact details

Note: You can also make the translations of any document if you are able to do so. Translation must be the true copy of the original document. You must understand that if the translation is not correct then it may result your application being delayed/ refused.

If you can’t prepare the translation in advance, you can use our service “Document translation” in the visa application service.

When can you provide your documents?

Austrian embassy will only consider documents submitted with your application. You cannot submit documents after you have completed your application at the service centre, unless our staff asks you for them.

If you do not have a document

You should check that you have all the relevant documents that you want the visa officer to see before you apply for a visa. This is because it is your responsibility to satisfy the visa officer that you qualify for the visa that you have applied for.

If you do not have a document that is listed here, or that you think might be relevant to your application, you should explain why you do not have it. You must not provide a false document. Staff at the visa service centre will put his/her remarks on the checklist in case of deficiency of required documents.

If you provide a false document, it may result of your application being refused.

Note

If You are a citizen of Russian Federation and you are not leaving an airport area, You won’t need a transit visa.

1. Application form

   One (1) completed and signed visa application form duly filled in English or German. Application form have to be signed by a person who submits documents.

   Application form for children:

   Each child has to have a separate application form even if his or her name entered on mother’s passport. Minors (before 18) must have a signature in application form at least one of the parents/legal guardian.

   If you can’t prepare the Visa Application form by yourself, our manager can fill the Visa application form for you.

2. Travel document

   Valid passport with 2 expanded empty pages or 1 sheet, the copy of first page of foreign passport with personal data. The passport validity of at least three (3) months after expiry of the visa.

   The copies of all Schengen Visas for the whole period of live.

   If you need to annul your previous Schengen visa please fill in an annulation form .

3. Two photographs

   Requirements: Your visa application photos must meet certain criteria regarding size and content. Submitting photos that do not meet these criteria can delay the visa application process.

   If you haven’t opportunity to make photo in advance, you can make photo in our VAC.

4. Insurance

   Travel, health and accident insurance for the entire period with a Minimum coverage of € 30.000, - and valid throughout the Schengen area. Insurance policies have to be purchased from the companies accredited and are listed on the website of Austrian Embassy in Moscow. Very Important that the insurance policy covers all risks.

5. Copy of the internal passport (not for children less than 14 years old): pages concerning the applicant's biodata, foreign passport(s) issued to him/her, registration in Russia and page 14 with or without marks.
6. In cases of minors.
   • Copy of the birth certificate.
   • Consent of the parental authority or legal guardian done by a notary public, only if the minor travels alone or only with one parent. In cases of a single parent holding the parental authority alone (i.e. when the other parent has deceased or has been deprived of custody, the death certificate or the court decree is requested). Consent letter from parents should be original plus copy.
   • Copy of the valid Schengen visa of the parent(s) travelling with the minor in case the visas are not applied for at the same time. If documents are submitted by parents for their child, and each parent has opened Schengen visa in that case they should add booking where should be mentioned surnames, names of guests who will stay in a hotel, tickets of flight and departure.

7. In cases of third-country nationals proof of legal residence in the Russian Federation in line with federal legislation (e.g. residence permit, long-term Russian visa and registration), valid for at least three months after the planned return from the Schengen area or a document proving that the applicant has applied for a renewal of the proof of legal residence

   If the applicant is not a resident in the Russian Federation, he/she needs to submit proof of legal presence in the Russian Federation (e.g. visa) and a written justification for submitting the visa application in the Russian Federation instead of the country of residence

8. Additional required documents depending on the purpose of travel:

   • Members of official delegations:
     • Letter (e.g. verbal note) issued by a competent Russian authority (e.g. Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) confirming that the applicant is a member of its delegation travelling to the Schengen Member State.
     • Copy of the official invitation.
   • Employees travelling on business: .

     • Invitation from your business partner in Austria.

       In principle the original invitation should be presented. The visa section will start the examination on the basis of copies (fax, scans), but may – if necessary – ask for the original.

       If no invitation can be presented, other proof of purpose of travel (e.g. information on participation in conference, entrance ticket to trade fair, business correspondence, programme of the business trip).

       In case not already sufficiently demonstrated in the invitation, proof of employment.

       In order to avoid time-consuming requests for additional information or documentation, it is highly recommended – in particular to first-time applicants – to provide Information on the Russian employer, e.g. number of entry in Russian trade register

   • Self-employed people travelling on business:

     • Invitation from your business partner in Austria.

       In principle the original invitation should be presented. The visa section will start the examination on the basis of copies (fax, scans), but may – if necessary – ask for the original.

       If no invitation can be presented, other proof of purpose of travel (e.g. information on participation in conference, entrance ticket to trade fair, business correspondence, programme of the business trip).

     • Proof of economic activity (e.g. 2NDFL or 3NDFL form, extract from the trade/fiscal registry or certificate for individual business) or originals of bank statement(s) covering at least three preceding months.
   • Drivers (international cargo):
     • Written request from the Russian national association of carriers (ASMAP or RAS) stating the purpose, duration and frequency of trips.

     • Invitation from your business partner in Austria.

       In principle the original invitation should be presented. The visa section will start the examination on the basis of copies (fax, scans), but may – if necessary – ask for the original.

     • Copy of license for international transportation of your employer.
     • Copy of your driver’s license.
     • Copy of your employment history (trudovaya knizhka) or copy of your contract of employment.
   • Drivers (international passengers):
     • Written request from the Russian national association of carriers (ASMAP or RAS) stating the purpose, duration and frequency of trips.

     • Invitation from your business partner in Austria.

       In principle the original invitation should be presented. The visa section will start the examination on the basis of copies (fax, scans), but may – if necessary – ask for the original.

     • Copy of license for international passenger transportation of your employer.
     • Officially certified copy and simple copy of license to operate an international bus line issued from a Austrian district council addressed to your employer.
     • Copy of license issued by the Russian transportation ministry for the same bus line.
     • Copy of your driver’s license.
     • Copy of your employment history (trudovaya knizhka) or copy of your contract of employment.
   • Members of train, refrigerator and locomotive crews for up to 90 days/year:
     • Written request from the competent Russian railway company (OAO-RZD and its branches and
     • Proof of employment or copy of your employment history (trudovaya knizhka).
   • Journalists for up to 90 days/year:
     • A certificate or other document issued by a professional organisation proving that you are a qualified journalist.
     • Letter from your employer stating that the purpose of the journey is to carry out journalistic work.
   • Freelance journalists for up to 90 days/year:
     • Proof of journalistic activity (e.g. a press card or work contract)
     • Proof of economic activity/financial means (e.g. 2NDFL or 3NDFL form, excerpt from the trade/fiscal registry, certificate for individual business, original of bank statement(s) covering at least three preceding months).

   • Workers posted to Austria for specific short-term activities:

     This applies to persons who are sent to Austria by their employer, whose registered office is outside Austria, for up to three months within a period of twelve months for one of the following activities:

     To erect and assemble machines, systems and software which have been ordered from the employer and to provide instruction in their operation, service or repair:

     • Original proof of employment

     • Invitation from the Austrian business partner

       In principle the original invitation should be presented. The visa section will start the examination on the basis of copies (fax, scans), but may – if necessary – ask for the original.

     • Supply contract and import/export certificate for the machines, systems and software delivered to Austria

     • Confirmation of notification of the Federal Employment Agency about the employment

       To accept machines, systems or other objects acquired for the Russian employer and/or receive instructions in their operation:

     • Original proof of employment

     • Invitation from the Austrian business partner

       In principle the original invitation should be presented. The visa section will start the examination on the basis of copies (fax, scans), but may – if necessary – ask for the original.

     • Supply contract and import/export certificate for the machines, systems or other objects acquired in Austria

       To dismantle acquired, used systems for the purpose of re-erecting them in Russia:

     • Original proof of employment

     • Invitation from the Austrian business partner

       In principle the original invitation should be presented. The visa section will start the examination on the basis of copies (fax, scans), but may – if necessary – ask for the original.

     • Sales contract and proof of financing of the acquired, used systems

     • Confirmation of notification of the Federal Employment Agency about the employment

       To erect, dismantle and manage the company's own trade fair stands or the trade fair stands of a foreign company which is resident in Russia:

     • Original proof of employment

     • Proof of trade fair taking place, lease contract for trade fair stand

       To participate in training as part of export delivery and licensing agreements:

     • Original proof of employment

     • Invitation from the Austrian business partner

       In principle the original invitation should be presented. The visa section will start the examination on the basis of copies (fax, scans), but may – if necessary – ask for the original.

     • Detailed training plan, proof of existing export delivery and/or license agreement

   • Scientists with scholarship from public funds or visiting scientists invited by a university or other public research facility (up to three months)

     Invitation or work contract from public university or other public research facility and/or promise of scholarship of the Austrian scientific organisation with designated university or research facility and a copy thereof.

     In principle the original invitation should be presented. The visa section will start the examination on the basis of copies (fax, scans), but may – if necessary – ask for the original.

     • Letter of deployment of your Russian university.
     • In case of accompanying spouse or children: Marriage certificate and/or birth certificate for the children with a copy of each.

   • Holiday jobs and work placements (up to three months)

     Applies to:

     Students and pupils planning a holiday job of up to three months per year in Austria if the work has been arranged by the International Placement Service (ZAV).

     Students planning a work placement of up to three months as part of a proven international exchange programme involving associations, public authorities or student organisations for students or graduates of foreign universities in agreement with the International Placement Service (ZAV).

     Please note that for other kinds of work placements (longer than three months or without approval of the ZAV), you will have to apply for a national visa.

     • Placement letter of the ZAV and a copy thereof.
     • Recent certificate of study

4. Insurance

   Travel, health and accident insurance for the entire period with a Minimum coverage of € 30.000, - and valid throughout the Schengen area. Insurance policies have to be purchased from the companies accredited and are listed on the website of Austrian Embassy in Moscow. Very Important that the insurance policy covers all risks.

5. Copy of the internal passport (not for children less than 14 years old): pages concerning the applicant's biodata, foreign passport(s) issued to him/her, registration in Russia and page 14 with or without marks.
6. In cases of minors.
   • Copy of the birth certificate.
   • Consent of the parental authority or legal guardian done by a notary public, only if the minor travels alone or only with one parent. In cases of a single parent holding the parental authority alone (i.e. when the other parent has deceased or has been deprived of custody, the death certificate or the court decree is requested). Consent letter from parents should be original plus copy.
   • Copy of the valid Schengen visa of the parent(s) travelling with the minor in case the visas are not applied for at the same time. If documents are submitted by parents for their child, and each parent has opened Schengen visa in that case they should add booking where should be mentioned surnames, names of guests who will stay in a hotel, tickets of flight and departure.

7. In cases of third-country nationals proof of legal residence in the Russian Federation in line with federal legislation (e.g. residence permit, long-term Russian visa and registration), valid for at least three months after the planned return from the Schengen area or a document proving that the applicant has applied for a renewal of the proof of legal residence

   If the applicant is not a resident in the Russian Federation, he/she needs to submit proof of legal presence in the Russian Federation (e.g. visa) and a written justification for submitting the visa application in the Russian Federation instead of the country of residence

8. Additional required documents:
   • Close relatives visiting Russian citizens residing legally in Austria:
     • Invitation from the host including the full address of the intended stay, either informal with an officially certified signature (or copy of host’s passport)
     • Proof of the legal residence of the inviting person in Austria (copy of residence permit) as well as proof of family tie (e.g. copy of birth or marriage certificates).
     • Proof of itinerary (e.g. a confirmation of the booking of an organised trip or any other appropriate document indicating the envisaged travel plans such as a return ticket, paid flight ticket, if not available, adequate written description of the planned journey.
     • Proof of financial means (e.g. proof of employment with salary information, original of bank/credit card statement(s) covering at least three preceding months or proof of sponsorship).
     • Indication of will to return (e.g. certificate of employment or proof of real estate property in Russia).
   • Close relatives visiting EU (EEA & Swiss) citizens:
     • Invitation from the host including the full address of the intended stay, either informal with an officially certified signature (or copy of host’s passport)
     • Proof of the nationality of the inviting person and proof of family tie (e.g. copy of passport or certificate of citizenship; birth certificate, marriage certificate).
     • Proof of financial means (e.g. proof of employment with salary information, original of bank/credit card statement(s) covering at least three preceding months, proof of real estate property in Russia or proof of sponsorship).
     • Indication of will to return e.g. certificate of employment or proof of real estate property in Russia.

Overview

Photo Requirements

General requirements

• Photo for each visa applicant must be an un mounted, full face photo as described below
• Photo must be taken within the last 6 months, for small children within the last 3 months..

Photo size: Photo submitted must measure as below mentioned

• 35 mm x 45 mm with the head centered in the frame.
• The head (measured from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin) should measure about 30 mm

Photo Appearance

• The photo must be a full-face front view in which the visa applicant is facing the camera directly, with closed mouth, without smile.
• The face should cover about 70-80 percent of the photo area.
• The photo must be in color, made on matte or glossy paper and have only a white background. Photos with dark, busy, or patterned backgrounds will not be accepted.
• In general, the applicant's head, including both face and hair, should be shown from the crown of the head to the tip of the chin on top and bottom and from hairline side-to-side. It is preferable that ears be exposed.
• Sunglasses or other wear, which detracts from the face, are not acceptable unless required for medical reasons (an eye patch, for example).
• A photo depicting a person wearing a traditional facemask or veil that does not permit adequate identification is not acceptable.

If your travel to Austria is for one of the following purpose, you are eligible to apply for this visa.

Description

If you plan to go to Austria to visit relatives for a period not to exceed 90 days and your country is not on the visa-free list, you need a Schengen travel visa (Visa C).

Please note that in order to apply for a travel visa at the Austrian Embassy, your only destination or your main destination (longest duration of stay) must be Austria. In the absence of a main destination (e.g. same duration of stay in two or more countries) you can apply at any of these countries but it is recommended that you apply at the country of first entry because your passport will show the entry stamp of your first destination only.

The rates are as below. They may be varied at any time. Charges are non-refundable and may only be paid by card or in cash Russian Rubles only.

Optional value added services

To add value to our customer, we offer some value added service. You will need to pay an extra fee in addition to the visa application fee when you attend the visa service centre only. To know about these services please refer the additional service page of this website.

Logistic fee: Applicants applying in regions (except Moscow) should pay 450 RUB per passport to be delivered to the Embassy.

This list is intended to help you compile the documents for your visa application. Please note that the Embassy may ask you for additional documents or further information if this is necessary to assess your application.

Main Rules:

2. Documents submission can be realized if a person has at least one Schengen Visas irrespective of the country of issuance in that case documents can be accepted by your relatives if they present documents for relationship.

Original documents and photocopies

When you plan to visit the visa service center to submit your visa application, you must carry all original documents and their photocopies. Visa service center staff will accept photocopies only after checking the original documents.

Please ensure that the photocopies are of good quality and can be read easily.

If you do not provide all required documents, it might be difficult for the embassy staff to assess your application accurately, which may result in your application being delayed or refused.

Translated documents

You also have to provide a translation of any supporting documents that are not in English or German. If you do not provide a translation of your supporting documents, it might be difficult for the staff of Austrian Embassy in Moscow to assess your application accurately, which may result in your application being delayed or refused.

Each translated document must contain:

• confirmation that it is an accurate translation of the original document
• the date of the translation
• the translator's full name and signature
• the translator's contact details

Note: You can also make the translations of any document if you are able to do so. Translation must be the true copy of the original document. You must understand that if the translation is not correct then it may result your application being delayed/ refused.

If you can’t prepare the translation in advance, you can use our service “Document translation” in the visa application service.

When can you provide your documents?

Austrian embassy will only consider documents submitted with your application. You cannot submit documents after you have completed your application at the service centre, unless our staff asks you for them.

If you do not have a document

You should check that you have all the relevant documents that you want the visa officer to see before you apply for a visa. This is because it is your responsibility to satisfy the visa officer that you qualify for the visa that you have applied for.

If you do not have a document that is listed here, or that you think might be relevant to your application, you should explain why you do not have it. You must not provide a false document. Staff at the visa service centre will put his/her remarks on the checklist in case of deficiency of required documents.

If you provide a false document, it may result of your application being refused.

Note

Before submission kindly check if Austria remains the main state of destination in Schengen area.

If You are a citizen of Russian Federation and you are not leaving an airport area, You won’t need a transit visa.

Important:

Each applicant should prepare a common and full package of documents.

   One (1) completed and signed visa application form duly filled in English or German. Application form have to be signed by a person who submits documents.

   Application form for children:

2. Travel document

   Valid passport with 2 expanded empty pages or 1 sheet, the copy of first page of foreign passport with personal data. The passport validity of at least three (3) months after expiry of the visa.

   The copies of all Schengen Visas for the whole period of live.

   If you need to annul your previous Schengen visa please fill in an annulation form .

3. Two photographs

   Requirements: Your visa application photos must meet certain criteria regarding size and content. Submitting photos that do not meet these criteria can delay the visa application process.

     • In case not included in the invitation, a separate statement of sponsorship either from the sending or receiving party (or other proof of financial means).
     • If group of performers apply for visas the following additional documentation requires:
       • Guest performance or tour schedule (number of performances, dates and places)
       • List of all participants stating their function (e.g. member of orchestra, dancer, lighting technician)
   • Language course (up to three months):
     • Confirmation of language school with details about address, duration and cost of the course. The course has to comprise at least 18 hours per week.
     • Proof of accommodation.
     • Proof of financial means (e.g. original of bank/credit card statement(s) covering at least three preceding months or proof or sponsorship).
     • Proof of will to return (proof of employment and/or proof of real estate/property in Russia).
   • Participants in official twin city programs:
     • Invitation from the head of administration/mayor of the city where the twinning activity is to take place.

     • Written request from the head of administration/mayor of the sending city with full details of the participant.

       Note: Either the invitation or the written request should include a statement of sponsorship. If not, other proof of financial means.

   • Pupils, students, post-graduate students and accompanying teachers:
     • Invitation or certificate of enrolment or student card from the host university, academy, institute, college or school or certificate of the courses to be attended.

     • In case not included in the invitation, a separate statement on sponsorship either from the sending or receiving party (or other proof of financial means, e.g. original of bank/credit card statement(s) covering at least three preceding months).

   • Start of academic studies as scholarship student (up to three months):
     
     Scholarship students are students getting a scholarship for studies in Austria from Austrian public funds or EU funds (e.g. Erasmus).
     • Invitation to academic studies or admission to university or other academic institution.

     • Proof of grant of scholarship from Austria or EU fund of at least € 659 per month.

   • Student exchange (up to three months):
     • Written request (original or fax) from the inviting institution.
     • List of exchange students and their respective hosts (full name and address) and confirmation of the organiser that all hosts are suitable to accommodate the exchange student.
     • Youth exchange programs
       • Invitation (original or fax) including name and address of the hosting Austrian institution and the Russian partner organisation, duration of visit, purpose of visit and list of guests (full name, date and place of birth, passport number).
       • Either:
       • Statement of sponsorship (and one copy thereof) of the hosting institution stating that it will cover all costs for the duration of the stay in the Schengen territory including accommodation, catering, medical expenses etc. Please include a copy of the passport of the person signing the obligation and a copy of a recent (not older than six months) association register extracts.
   • Participants in international sports events and accompanying persons in their professional capacity:
     • Invitation from the host organisation (competent authority, national sports federation or National Olympic Committee), including information on the role (e.g. athlete, official, doctor) of each participant.

     • In case not included in the invitation, a separate statement of sponsorship either from the sending or receiving party (or other proof of financial means, e.g. original of bank/credit card statement(s) covering at least three preceding months ).
