VISA TYPES

  • The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Accra serves nationals of Ghana, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Togo.
  • Information regarding visa procedures, requirements and individual applications can ONLY be obtained from the visa officer of the Embassy of the Czech Republic, not from Security Staff or any other third party. Important information - please read

Applications should be submitted in person (also babies and children).

For every document submitted, you must provide the original (to show at the counter) and one copy (to be attached to the visa file).

The documents are to be presented in (or translated to) Czech, English or French.

The documents submitted will not be returned. Only the travel document will be returned.

All applicants must comply fully with the documents required for the category of visa they are applying for. Incomplete applications may lead to an increased risk of being rejected if the requested information is not provided within 5 working days. Alternative documentation other than that which is stated in the Checklists on the website also may not be accepted.

All applicants applying for a visa need to schedule a (prior) appointment to submit their application.

Before applying, please ensure you are very clear on your purpose of visit – do remember VFS Global can assist and help you through the entire visa application process but is not permitted to advise or guide you on choosing a visa category. Since the work of VFS Global is primarily administrative in nature, VFS Global has no say on whether you will be granted a visa and how long it will take to process the application.

You may need a Schengen visa to stay in the Czech-Republic for a period of maximum 90 days in any 180-days period (short stay visa).

When you apply for a Schengen visa you should specify whether you need a single or multiple-entry visa. If such a visa is granted, it allows you to stay up to a maximum of 90 days in any 180 days period.

If you intend to travel in more than one country in the Schengen area, you must apply for a visa at the mission of the Schengen country where you intend to stay longest. If you intend to stay in each Schengen country for the same length of time, you must apply for the visa at the mission of the Schengen country to which you will travel first when entering the Schengen area.

You are strongly advised to submit your application at the latest 4 weeks prior to the date of departure, as the processing of a visa may take up to 15 days upon receiving a complete application. In general, an application can be lodged within 6 months before the start of the intended journey. The processing of visa applications usually takes up to 15 days. But it can sometimes take up to 45 days, if more information is needed. For instance, you may need to undergo screening. You cannot apply for a visa more than 6 months before your intended departure.

A short stay Schengen visa does not automatically entitle you to enter the Schengen area. At the border or during other controls you may, for instance, have to provide information on your means of support, how long you intend to stay in the Schengen country, and why you are visiting the Schengen country.

It is therefore recommended that you carry with you copies of the documents which you presented when you applied for the visa (for example letters of invitation, travel confirmations, medical health insurance, other documents stating the purpose of your stay). This will help to make the border control procedure easier and avoid delays at the border.

The data collected physically (application files), will be forwarded each working day to the Czech Embassy for processing.

Short Term Visa

Short-term Schengen Visa applications (up to 90 days)

The processing time is approx. 15 calendar days.

General Requirements:

  • Valid passport
  • Copy of the data page of the passport
  • Previous passports (even if expired)
  • 1 recent passport size photo
  • 1 completed and signed visa form
  • Booking slip or reservation for return ticket (no ticket!)
  • Birth certificate (and a copy of the birth certificate)
  • If applicant below 18 years is not accompanied by one of his parents: parental consent of both parents and copies of their ID/ passports
  • Travel health insurance valid for Schengen states. Travel medical insurance needs to be valid for the whole Schengen area with insurance coverage of at least 30 000 EUR
  • Visa fee 60,-Euro

  • Proof of financial means and economic and social ties to Ghana:

    1. Bank statements for the last 3 months.
    2. Employment letter stating terms and monthly income (if employed).
    3. Salary slips of the last 3 months or contract (if employed).
    4. Business papers (if self-employed), such as: business registration certificate, company’s code/ form A, tax clearance certificates, proof of active business (bills of lading, import declaration form, invoices, etc.).
    5. Evidence of social ties, such as marriage certificate, birth certificates of dependant children, official leave letter from the university or school including proof of paid school fees and school reports (if applicable).

Additional requirements for visit visa:

  • If invited by a private person or an institution, church, etc.: original invitation to visit the Czech Republic authorized by the Alien Police
  • Proof of family relation to the EU host (if applicable)
  • If sponsored by EU host: copy of host’s labour contract and 3 recent salary specifications

Additional requirements for tourist visa:

  • Hotel reservation and plausible travel itinerary

Additional requirements for business visa:

  • If invited by Czech company: original invitation to visit the Czech Republic authorized by the Alien Police
  • Copy of inviting parties’ entry in national commercial register
  • Verifiable proof of business with inviting company or proof of downpayment (if applicable)
  • Introduction letter from Ghanaian company
  • Hotel reservation

Additional requirements for medical visa:

  • Letter from local doctor stating diagnosis
  • Letter from Czech hospital/ doctor stating agreement to treat the patient and expected duration of the treatment
  • Overview of estimate costs
  • Proof of advanced payment of 50% - receipt from national hospital/ doctor
  • Proof of sufficient financial means for the treatment and cost of living during the stay

Musicians for recording/ concert/ festival/ lessons:

  • Introductory letter and musician card and proof of musical activities/ performances
  • For recording: studio contract, transfer slip for first instalment of studio fees and proof of payment
  • For festival or concerts: detailed concert schedule, contract stating duration and payment
  • For lessons: contract stating duration and payment
  • Hotel reservation

Sports – tournament or trials for transfer:

  • Letter of invitation from the organizer, inviting company or sports club
  • Letter of introduction from Ghana sports council and respective sports association/ federation that they have no objection
  • Proof of sporting ability
  • Hotel reservation

    A visa application cannot be submitted earlier than 6 months prior to the beginning of the planned journey and can be submitted by:

    • Applicant himself
    • For minors by a parent or legal guardian

    Standard visa processing time is 15 calendar days from the day of receipt of the application at the Embassy. In case the documents are not submitted as per requirements or due to other factors or justified reasons, the processing time may be extended to 45 days.

    Business visa application is applicable in case you are travelling for business purposes. This visa is given for travel period of less than 90 days. This visa will be issued for business purpose only; for gainful professional activities (even if the work is not financially rewarded) you have to apply for a work permit.

    Visa procedures for the short stay of Family Members of EU Citizens (up to 90 days)

    I. Who is a family member of an EU citizen?

    A family member of an EU citizen is a family member of a citizen of any of the EU country or Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, who is a:

    • spouse,
    • parent if it concerns someone who supports an EU citizen under 21 with whom they live in a common household,
    • child under 21 or such a child of the spouse of an EU citizen and
    • dependent direct relative in an ascending or descending line or such a relative of the spouse of an EU citizen.

    A dependent person is understood to be a third-country national supported by a European Union citizen or the spouse thereof who:

    • is systematically preparing for a future profession up 26 years of age;
    • cannot systematically prepare for a future profession or perform gainful activities due to illness or injury; or
    • is not capable of performing systematic gainful activities due to a chronic adverse health condition.

    A family member of an EU citizen can also be understood to be a foreign national who can credibly prove that:

    1. they are a relative of an EU citizen that is not specified above if:
      1. they lived in a common household with an EU citizen in the country whose citizenship they hold or in the country in which they held long-term or permanent residence;
      2. they are supported by an EU citizen; or
      3. they cannot care for themselves without the personal care provided by an EU citizen due to a chronic adverse health condition; or
    2. they are in a permanent relationship with an EU citizen that is comparable to a family relationship and that they share a common household.

    The provisions of the Act on Residence of Foreign Nationals pertaining to family members of European Union citizens will be also be applied to a foreign national who is a family member of a citizen of the Czech Republic. This visa is given for travel period of less than 90 days

    • in colour
    • 35x45 mm
    • printed on normal photographic paper
    • taken against a light background
    • full face taken straight forward 30-36 mm from point of the chin to the head of hair
    • the person is to be captured with neutral facial expression, with his/her eyes open and mouth closed
    • The photograph of a person, who for religious or medical reasons is wearing a head cover, must show the person's cheeks, chin and forehead
    • children in photographs must be alone, and their faces fully visible and eyes open

    This is a visa for visiting Czech Republic for other general purposes.

  • Documents Required

    Requried documents to get schengen visa to Czech Republic

    Application form

    • Must be filled with capital letters in English, in latin alphabet
    • Must be signed by parents/ legal guardian (if applicants under age18)

    Photo

    • Biometric photo
    • Colored, 3,5 x 4,5 (approximately 1,2 x 1,6 inch)
    • Light and monophonic background (white)

    Passport

    • Passport must be issued not late within 10 years
    • At least 3 months till intended visit from schengen area
    • Minimum two free pages
    • Passport copy: identification page and all previous visas to schengen area (with stamps)

    Identification card

    • Original and copy of two pages

    Confirmation of accomodation

    • All notarial confirmation documents must not be late 6 months.

    Flight Reservation

    • Ticket reservation in two ways
    • Ticket reservation for double visa in two ways for both trips

    Medical Insurance M

    • Medical insurance to Schengen area, covering the entire period of intended stay, the minimum coverage must be 30.000 EUR/ 50 000 US
    • For registration double visa, must be submitted insurance for both trips
    • For multi visa you should sign 4th pages of application form , where customer states to cover insurance the entire period of trip

    Proof of applicant’s regular income

    • Reference from work
    • For business visa: The company registration in the chamber of commerce and a copy of the bulletin of the trade register (VOEN)
    • Reference from Pension fund proof of getting pension
    • All references from regular income

    Proof of applicant’s pay slip

    • Reference from bank ( at least 60 EURO for one day for one person, it’s possible with EURO or different currency )
    • Copy of international credit card (credit card) from the same bank which you get reference

    Sponsor

    • Notarial confirmation of sponsor letter in english or russian language, with contact details (working cell and home number) of sponsor
    • Reference from bank or work sponsor person
    • Copy of sponsor ID

    If applicant is minor

    • Copy of certificate of birth
    • Power of attorney from a not-travelling parent(s) or legal guardian(if customer goes alone)
    Attention: All documents and copies (except passport copy) in Azerbaijan language must be translated to Russian or English language with notarial confirmation.

    Attention: Dear customer! All checklist documents suggested to Azerbaijan citizens. Citizens from different countries can submit all noticed documents only if he/she has registration card to Azerbaijan Republic, after his/her return from schengen area must be minimum 3 months

    Attention: The consulate at Czech embassy may need extra documents. All documents must be submitted not earlier 6 months (180 days) applying to schengen area.
