Visa Types

Application can be lodged up to six months before start of the trip to Schengen area (9 months, if applicant is a seafarer) and must be applied not later than 15 days before start of the trip.
The updated Schengen code makes it possible for travellers to apply six months before their trip.
Short term

Overview
Short-term visa (type C) – is issued for transit through or an intended stay in the territory of the Schengen States of a duration of no more than 90 days in any six-month period from the date of first entry in the territory of the Schengen States
If you wish to visit only Estonia, the Schengen visa has to be applied with the Estonian representation.
If the travel destination includes more than one Schengen member state, the application must be submitted at the representation of the main destination. The main destination is the country where you intend to spend the longest time or where the main purpose of the intended journey is carried out.
If you wish to visit several Schengen member states and you are not sure of the state of main destination or plan to spend the equal number of days in each state, the visa must be applied for at the representation of the state through which you intend to enter the Schengen area.
The fingerprints which have been collected as part of an earlier application less than 59 months before the date of the new application, the applicant does not have to provide the fingerprints.
Mere possession of a visa does not confer an automatic right of entry. The holders of visa are requested to present proof that they fulfil the entry conditions at the external border, as provided in the Schengen Border Code. The following persons are exempted from paying the visa fee, however, will have to pay VFS logistics.
- Children under 6 years (Visa fee and Service fee will be exempted for Children below 6 years).
- holders of diplomatic and service passports.
- family members (spouse, children, parents) of citizens of Estonia.
- family members (spouse, children, parents) of citizens of EU/EEA country or the Swiss Confederation.
- persons invited by Parliament or the Estonian Government.
- persons who intend to attend meetings of the United Nations or its organizations, the Council of Europe, the European Union or the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to be held in Estonia.
- school children, students, post-graduate students and accompanying teachers who undertake trips for the purpose only of study or educational training.
- representatives of non-profit organisations aged 25 years or less participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organised by non-profit organisations;
- researchers from third countries travelling for the purpose of carrying out scientific research as defined in Recommendation No 2005/761/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 September 2005 to facilitate the issue by the Member States of uniform short-stay visas for researchers from third countries travelling within the Community for the purpose of carrying out scientific research;
- certain categories of applicants according to Visa Facilitation Agreements.

Documents Required
PASSPORT
Make sure your travel document fulfills these criteria:
- issued within the last 10 years
- contains at least two (2) blank pages for visas
- is valid at least 3 months after the expiration date of the visa;
- Indian citizens: old passport (mandatory, if not, FIR or proof of cancellation)

PROOF OF FINANCES
- You should have proof of at least 70 EUR per day of stay in Estonia.
INSURANCE POLICY
- Valid in Schengen countries with a coverage of at least 30,000 EUR for the entire duration of stay in the Schengen area;

At the time of submission of the application, 10 FINGERPRINTS of the applicant will be collected.The following applicants shall be exempt from the requirement to give fingerprints:
- children under the age of 12;
- persons for whom fingerprinting is physically impossible;
- heads of state or government and members of national government with accompanying spouses, and the members of their official delegation when they are invited by Member States’ governments or by international organizations for an official purpose:
- sovereigns and other senior members of a royal family, when they are invited by Member States’ governments or by international organizations for an official purpose:
At the request of a consular officer, you are required to appear at the Embassy or Consulate in person in order to provide explanations concerning facts which are relevant in application for the visa.
A visa application is admissible when the following conditions are met:
- the application is lodged at least 15 calendar days before the intended visit but not earlier than six months before the start of the intended visit (for seafarers in the performance of their duties no more than nine months before the start of the intended visit);
- the applicant has submitted an application form;
- the applicant has presented a valid travel document which is issued within previous 10 years, contains at least two blank pages for visas and is valid at least 3 months after the expiration date of the visa;
- the applicant has submitted a photo;
- the applicant´s biometric data have been collected;
- the visa fee has been collected.
However, according to the EU Visa Code visa applicants are required to present documents indicating among other things the purpose of their journey. Depending on the purpose of your journey, you must submit supporting documents.
In Estonian Embassy in New Delhi only Indian passport holders and non-Indian passport holders who are permanently living and working in India and whose main destination in Schengen is Estonia can apply for Schengen visa.
Estonia is the applicant’s main destination in Schengen if
- you travel only to Estonia or
- you visit more than one Schengen member state, or if several separate visits are to be carried out within a period of two months, the application must be lodged at the representation of the main destination. The main destination is understood to be the destination where you intend to spend the longest time or where the main purpose of the intended journey is carried out or
- you wish to visit several Schengen member states and you are not sure of the state of main destination or plan to spend the equal number of days in each state, the visa must be applied for at the representation of the state through which the visa applicant intends to enter the Schengen area.

Photo Specifications

Please provide one recent photograph (not more than 6 months old) of yourself, which should not have been used previously in the passport. The photograph should be in colour and:
- Taken against a light background (white or off-white) so that features are distinguishable and contrast against the background.
- Clear share quality and with the face in focus.
- Printed on normal photographic paper (camera print).
- Full face, non-smiling [without sunglasses, a hat/cap or other head covering, unless the applicant wears such items because of their religious belief or ethnic background]
- Please stick the Photograph on the Visa Application Form.
- COLOR PHOTO (passport-size 35mm x 40mm).
- Face 70-80% of the height of the photo.

Processing Time
Applications accepted at the Estonia Visa Application Centre will be submitted on the next working day at the Embassy of Estonia. Once the application has been submitted, the applicant can be further requested missing documentation. Please note as per the instructions received from Embassy minimum processing time is 15 calendar days. This period may be extended up to a maximum of 45 calendar days in individual cases, notably when further scrutiny of the application is needed.
All applications must be submitted at least 15 days prior to the proposed date of travel to accommodate any unforeseen processing delays.
Kindly note if application is submitted in Satellite centre, it may take up to 48-72 hours in transit to New Delhi. All the applications received from Satellite centers will be sent to Embassy on next working day.
Processing time will start excluding the date of submission of application at VFS.

Overview

If your purpose of visit is working in Estonia, studying or doing an internship in Estonia, you will need to apply for a long-stay (D) visa with the Estonian representation If the travel destination includes more than one Schengen member state, the application must be submitted at the representation of the main destination. The main destination is the country where you intend to spend the longest time or where the main purpose of the intended journey is carried out.
If you wish to visit several Schengen member states and you are not sure of the state of main destination or plan to spend the equal number of days in each state, the visa must be applied for at the representation of the state through which you intend to enter the Schengen area.
The fingerprints which have been collected as part of an earlier application less than 59 months before the date of the new application, the applicant does not have to provide the fingerprints.

All applications must be submitted at least 15-20 days prior to the proposed date of travel to accommodate any unforeseen processing delays.
Kindly note if application is submitted in Satellite centre, it may take up to 48-72 hours in transit to New Delhi. All the applications received from Satellite centers will be sent to Embassy on next working day.
Processing time will start excluding the date of submission of application at VFS.

Filling the application
- Open the link above or navigate to eelviisataotlus.vm.ee and select the language you wish to use for filling the application.
- Enter your e-mail address as well as the anti-spam symbols required to proceed.
- Fill in the application according to the instructions. Make sure to read all the instructions carefully and provide as much information as possible. Avoid typing errors and if in doubt, click on the ? symbol next to the appropriate field for additional information.
- After completing the visa application, you will be provided with the number of your visa application and the filled form will be sent to your e-mail address as a .pdf file. You will also be given the choice to print the form out immediately.
- After printing the form, either from the webpage or from you e-mail, you must sign it, before submitting it to the Embassy or the Consulate General together with other required documents and the visa fee.
