Overview

• If you are planning a short visit to Germany, you may need to apply for a Schengen visa. Germany is one of the 26 European countries forming the Schengen Area which have no border controls between them. These countries also issue a common visa, the Schengen visa for stays up to 90 days.
• Before scheduling an appointment, please make sure that you choose the Mission competent for your place of residence. Failure to do so will lead to your appointment being cancelled and your application not being accepted. Every mission reserves the right to ask for additional documents for proof of your habitual place of residence at the counter.
• All Schengen visa applications accepted for Germany across all Visa Application Centres in India will be forwarded to the German Consulate in Mumbai for a decision.

Visa Fees

The New Visa Fees is effective from 29th September 2023 for all cities.

Please Note:

• The applicable visa fee in Indian Rupees is as per the exchange rate of the German Consulate General, Mumbai.
• Visa fee, VFS service charge and value-added service fee are applicable per customer.
• Visa Fees, service charge and value-added service fees, once paid are non - refundable.
• The use of Optional Services will not affect the decision or turnaround time during the visa procedure.

Overview

Business visa application is applicable in case you are traveling for business purposes. This visa is given for travel period up to 90 days

Due to increased capacities, we are open for a limited amount of business visa at the VFS VACs in Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kochi and Kolkata.

With regard to the ongoing travel restrictions to Germany, appointments can only be granted if the travel purpose meets the current exemptions from the travel ban.

To pre-check your inquiry and obtain an appointment, please submit to VFS via e-mail the following documents:

Upon submission of complete documents, your inquiry will be checked within 5 business days.

Overview

Schengen Visa

Schengen visa have to be obtained from the Embassy or Consulate of the country where the main purpose of travel lies. Therefore, please check your travel plans before making your application to The German Consulate General in Kolkata. In case of travel to multiple Schengen countries, please make your application to the Embassy or the Consulate where you will be staying for the maximum number of days, or from the point of first entry into the Schengen countries, if the duration of stay is the same in more than one Schengen country.

• Passport should have at least two blank pages.
• Passport should be valid for at least 3 months from the date on which the applicant intends to leave the Schengen territory, or, in the case of multiple journeys the date on which the applicant intends to leave it for the last time
• Applications are only accepted within 6 months of the requested date of arrival
• Passports should be machine-readable. Hand-written passports are not accepted.
• Passports with an observation concerning Passport number; Surname; Given Name; Nationality; Sex; Date of Birth; Place of Birth; Place of Issue; Date of Issue; Date of Expiry are not accepted.
• Relevant Forms & Photograph: Fully completed application form appropriate to the type of visa

Change in Passport collection process

The Consulate General of Germany in Kolkata has implemented a change in arrangement for the collection of passport(s) from VFS Global Visa Application Centre. With effect from 01 September 2016.

Third party collection of the documents or passports will not be permitted, except in the following cases:

• Immediate Family Member (that is Parents, Children, Siblings)
• A person collecting on behalf of Govt. officials if authorized on the Govt. letter head or department
• Representative of a company - Authorization letter on the letter head of the company and the official ID card

If any of the above comes for passport collection they need to carry the following documents

• Photocopy of Govt. ID card
• Original ICR
• Authorisation Letter from applicant

Jurisdiction To Apply

The visa applications will be submitted at the German Visa Application Centres in accordance with the jurisdiction specified. All applications will be decided by The German Consulate General in Kolkata.

The Germany Visa Application Centre accept applications for a Schengen Visa (short term including Tourism, Visit to Family and Friends, Business and Transit) for the submission at The German Consulate General in Kolkata.

The German Consulate General in Kolkata issues visas for residents under its consular area, which includes the states of: West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. The place of issue of a passport does not determine the jurisdiction but it is the current place where an applicant resides that determines whether he/she belongs to the above jurisdiction.

Centralization: Applicants can apply in any of our VFS centers irrespective of their jurisdiction. We will check and send the application to the Consulate/Embassy of their respective jurisdiction at an additional cost of INR 1000/.

Applicants who do not wish to collect their documents in person and whose documents cannot be collected by one of the above should select delivery mode as courier at the time of submission.

The applicants are requested to mention the complete delivery address on the courier form and for counter collection the same can be collected from the counter between 08:00 - 18:00 (Monday-Friday).

This procedural change is to ensure the safe and secure return of documents to applicants.

Applicants for a seaman’s visa must be employed in any capacity on board a vessel, and seeking to enter Germany solely in pursuit of his/her calling as a seaman, with the intention of departing with the vessel or reshipping on other vessel that is bound for a foreign port or place or one coming to the Germany to join a vessel in this country.
