Schengen Visa, Category C ,(short-term visa - for visits to Germany of up to 90 days)

If you are planning a short visit to Germany and you do not have German nationality, you may need to apply for a Schengen visa. Germany is one of the 26 European countries forming the Schengen Area * which have no border controls between them. These countries also issue a common visa, the Schengen visa for the stay up to 90 days.

* Schengen Countries: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Person who have been issued German Schengen visa may travel throughout the Schengen zone, even if the first border of entry is not Germany. But if a person has a Schengen visa issued by the Embassy of Germany, Germany must be country of the main destination.

Processing time:

Upon submission of visa application, it is delivered to the Embassy for assessment on next working day morning.

The processing time at Embassy for a Schengen-Visa which is applied for at VFS Global, is usually around 12 days.

During this time your passport has to be kept by VFS Global / the Embassy and it is not possible to return it. In emergency, the passport can be returned, but then the visa-application cannot be further processed.

    Business visa application is applicable in case you are travelling for business purposes. This visa is given for travel period of less than 90 days

    * The European Union has concluded visa facilitation agreements with these countries.

    Adult nationals of Albania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, and Montenegro are exempt from the visa requirement, provided that they hold a valid passport containing biometric data (fingerprints and facial image).

    Please note exemption of visa fee applies for:
    • Children 0-6 years (i.e. Children that are 6 years of age minus one day)
    • Family members of EU / EEA citizens (proof required)
    • School pupils, student, postgraduate student and accompanying teachers who undertake stays for the purpose of study or educational training (proof required)
    • Researchers traveling for the purpose of carrying out scientific research (proof required)

    • There is a VFS Global service charge (Inclusive of VAT) levied per application over and above the visa fees as per table below.

    A Photograph submitted with the application for a visa should comply with the following specifications:

    • Must be an up-to-date photograph (dated max 6 month old)
    • Must be a color photograph printed on normal photographic paper
    • Should be sized between 35 – 45 mm
    • Full face taken straight forward 30 - 36 mm from point of the chin to top of hair
    • Taken against a light background
    • Without sunglasses
    • Without hat or other head covering unless you wear this for religious reasons
    • Spectacles should not have toned or reflecting glasses
    • The frame of the spectacles may not cover the eyes
    • The mouth must be shut

National Visa, Category D, (Long-term visa - for permanent stay in Germany)
