Long Term VISA
If you want to stay in Germany for more than 90 days, you should apply for a long-term (national) visa (category “D”). As of 05 April 2010, holders of a national visa (category “D”) can stay in the entire Schengen area for up to 90 days in any period of 180 days.

Please note that applicants will also be charged a VFS service fee of Euro 38 per application (PKR 11,134) which must be paid in cash when you attend the visa application centre.

The photo must:
- be in sharp focus, clear and with good contrasts
- no computer print-outs accepted
- be printed on high quality photo paper with high solution
- stapled to the application form at the intended spot
- be in colour
- be 35–40 mm in width
- be maximum 3 months old and resemble the applicant
- be taken with the applicant facing the camera directly, against a white background
- show the whole head and the top of the shoulders. The face must occupy 70–80 % of the picture.
- show open eyes that are clearly visible. Hair must not cover the eyes.
Regarding glasses:
Glasses are allowed as long as the eyes are clearly visible.
- the glasses must not be coloured
- the rim must not cover any part of the eyes
- there must be no reflection in the glasses
Regarding head-dress:
Religious head-dresses are allowed, provided that all details of the face are clearly shown.
- chin, forehead and both cheeks must be clearly visible
- shadows on the face due to the head-dress are not allowed

Required documents:
You have to arrange each set of documents according to the order in which they are mentioned below.
- Application form
- Biometric picture
- Letter of admission to a German University/acceptance to pathway program and proof about the working language/language requirement
- Proof of sufficient financial means by way of one of the options
- Your curriculum vitae
- Letter of motivation (only for Consulate General Karachi)
- Documentation of your school, college and academic degree and employment history - if any
- Proof of your language skills
- Income proof and bank statements of last 6 months of yourself or of your sponsor in Pakistan (only for Embassy Islamabad)
- Passport copies page 1 and 2
- Proof of adequate health insurance cover
- Information about any previous visa refusals

Overview
If you received an advance approval according to Art. 81a AufenthG (expedited procedure for qualified professionals introduced with the Skilled Immigration Act) from the competent alien's authority in Germany, you can book an appointment in the new category “Booking of appointments for a work visa (for stays exceeding 90 days) WITH advance approval according to §81a AufenthG”.
