    This visa allows people to visit Japan for a holiday or recreation for a stay up to 90 days.

  • Visa Fees

    Visa Fees (Effective 01st April 2026 to 31st March 2027)

    Note:

    • Visa fee can be paid by cash. All other VFS charges can be paid by cash/ card.
    • The service fee is inclusive of all applicable taxes.
    • VFS service fee is non-refundable.
    • Visa fee is refunded only if visa is not approved by the embassy.

    Refund of Visa Fee: The applicant can collect the Visa fee (if visa is not approved by the Embassy) at the time of passport collection.

    For intake centres:

    Applicant must enclose two separate bank demand drafts drawn in the name of “VFS Lanka (Pvt) Limited” payable at Colombo for visa fee and service/ courier fee. For each applicant, there will be a separate Demand Draft for Visa fee and service/two way courier charge.

    Demand Draft 1 (Visa Fee)- LKR 6000

    This demand draft shall be for applicable for the visa fee as per the visa category.

    Demand Draft 2 (Service charge/ Courier charge)- LKR 7,700

    This demand draft shall be for the service charge (LKR 5000/) and mandatory courier charge (LKR 2,200/) which shall be a total of LKR 7,700/- per application.

    Fees are inclusive of all taxes and non-refundable.

    This visa allows business people to make multiple short business visit to Japan for up to 90 days during your visa validity period. Business activities may include a conference, negotiation or exploratory business visit.

    Transit Visa is issued when the purpose of travel to Japan is only for transit on the way to/from other countries. Activities are limited to sightseeing, leisure and rest. If the purpose is commercial or visiting friends/relatives in Japan, please apply Short-Term Visa

Medical Stay Visa

  • Overview

    Visa for “Medical Stay” is a visa issued to foreign patients wishing to visit Japan for medical purposes (including medical check-ups). The visa is issued to their accompanying person(s) as well if necessary and as needed.

    Applicants must get the confirmation from the medical institution by the qualified guarantor agency. Consultation report which is issued by medical institution as well as the guarantor letter and treatment schedule by the qualified guarantor agency may be requested.

    Additionally recommendation letter from a Sri Lankan local doctor with the previous medical reports is required.

    If the treatment period requires staying more than 180 days, please apply with the Certificate of Eligibility.

Long Term Stay With Certificate Of Eligibility (Coe)

    A stay during which the applicant performs remunerative work (professor, journalist, researcher, engineer etc.) in Japan or a stay of over 90 days (student, trainee, etc.) in Japan. Please click here for more details.

    The Certificate of Eligibility issued by the Immigration Bureau of Japan must be submitted to apply this category.
