Visa Information
VISA TYPES
Select the visa type that is right for you to see important information on visa fees, documents required, forms, photo specifications and processing times.
Short-Term Visas
If you plan to visit Norway for less than 90 days, you can apply for a visitor's visa. With this visa, you can visit all Schengen countries.
If you plan to visit several Schengen countries in the course of one trip, you must submit your application to the embassy or consulate of the country that is your main destination.
Schengen consultation
Please note that all Pakistani and Afghani applications are required to go through a Schengen consultation in accordance with Visa Code art 22. For other nationalities, please see Visa Code handbook, annex 16
What is a Schengen consultation?
For some nationalities, one or more Schengen countries have requested that the member state who has received the application, sends the application for a prior consultation to them. If the member state (s) who has requested the consultation does not want a Schengen visa to be issued, they can denial the consultation.
How long does this take?
The consultation takes normally 8-10 days calendar days, and is included in the 15 days processing time. The consultation therefore does not in itself lead to a longer processing time than the normal 15 days for a Schengen visa.
What happens if one or more of the Member states says no in the prior consultation?
The Norwegian Embassy will then as a general rule reject the application. The Embassy will consider if there is grounds for a national visa, however this is only done in very rare cases when there is national or international interests or humanitarian grounds.
The Embassy does not have any information about which member states requires consultation of Pakistani and Afghani applicants, nor do we have information about which state, in cases of a rejection, has rejected the consultation.
You may appeal the decision if your case is rejected.
