Short Term Visa

Schengen visa enables a foreigner to travel to the Schengen area. With a Schengen visa you can travel freely between Schengen countries as long as the Schengen visa is valid.

You have to apply for your Schengen visa at the Embassy of your main destination. If the main destination cannot be determined, responsibility for issuance of the visa lies with the Schengen state of first entry.

The process and required documents for these countries are the same as when applying for a visa to visit Sweden.

Processing normally takes 15 calender days.

A visa gives the opportunity to enter the Schengen area, but does not imply a legal right to do so.

There are different requirements for different types of visas. The purpose of a proposed visit cannot be altered once the visa has been issued.

  • Overview

    This category of visa caters to people wishing to visit Sweden for a maximum of 3 months for business purposes. Please note that if you are going to work for a period less than 3 month you will need both a work permit and a Schengen visa and if that is the case you should contact the Embassy of Sweden for consultation.

    Applicants will have to provide evidence that he/she falls under this category.

Completing the form electronically reduces counter waiting time and helps avoid errors caused by illegible handwriting.

    • head coverings and hats are only acceptable due to religious beliefs, and even then, may not cover any portion of the applicant's face
    • taken against a plain, evenly lit and light background.

    Information on EU/EEA citizen exercising their right of free movement in accordance with Directive 2004/38/EC, can be found on the Swedish Embassy webpage but also on the webpage of the Swedish migration agency. If you believe that you meet the requirements for this, a potential application would be handled according to the directive. If the requirements are not met, it would be handled according to the Schengen visa code. It is the Embassy that does the assessment whether the directive is applicable or not.
