Processing times in United States of America.

  • The processing time for a Caribbean visa is approximately 15 business days, but may take considerably longer if additional documents are required.

    Important notes:

    • Visa applications are assessed individually and processing times may vary. The actual processing time of your visa application will depend on several factors, and because of this you should not make your travel arrangements to enter or transit through Dutch Caribbean until you have received your Schengen visa.
    • You may be required to appear for a personal interview or to submit additional documents, should the Consulate in the respective USA location require it.
  • Booking an appointment:

    Appointments can only be booked using the Schedule an Appointment page. It is not possible to book appointments by phone or email

What do I need to bring for my visa application?

After deciding the eligible visa category, applicants should follow the Documents Required list and prepare the application. Photocopies are recommended as documents will not be returned. Submit originals only where specified.

Forms for children under the age of 18 needs to be signed by a parent or guardian.

If you are under 18 and are travelling without one or both of your parents or guardians, ask them to sign a consent form. Border guards may ask to see this form when you arrive in the Netherlands.

Which visa category should I apply for?

 The Netherlands Visa Application Center is an acceptance centre and, as such, is not authorized to advise/recommend any visa type to a prospective applicant. The Applicant will need to ascertain the visa category he/she is eligible for based on the purpose of travel. Please go to Visa Types for more information.

What is the procedure to collect my passport?

Courier Delivery- Kindly let our staff know during submission process that you would like to avail the UPS courier service to have your passport delivered at your doorstep at a cost of USD 35 per passport. We have UPS next day air service, signature delivery available at our application centre for secured shipment of your package. Please note we do not accept self-addressed envelopes for the return of passports.

Counter Pick up- If you would like to collect your passport in person, once you have received notification that your passport is ready for collection, Please see collection timings here. Please ensure you bring your receipt when collecting.

Third Party Pick up- In your absence, along with your receipt and passport copy, an authority letter from you in the name of your relative will be required. We can post the application to you by Courier Delivery at an additional nominal cost. However, this request needs to be made at the time of submitting your application and cannot be requested at a later date.

Role of Visa Application Centre in processing
Please note neither the Visa application Centre nor any of its staff has any role in the decision making process. Processing of visa application is completed by the staff at the Embassy of Dutch Caribbean in USA.

How can I check that I am applying at the correct visa application center for my Schengen visa?

It is important to be sure you are applying for your Schengen visa through the correct Embassy or Consulate General. This is based on the main purpose of your journey or your first port of entry and time spent in your countries of destination. Please advise that VFS staff will not be able to advise/suggest the category and eligibility for any applicant. The Applicant will need to ascertain the visa category and country they need to apply under.

How do I know if I need a visa?

Depending on your citizenship and purpose of travel, you can  check here to determine if you are eligible or require a visa.

Is the visa valid for Netherlands only?

The Netherlands Embassy issues visas for Netherlands and for the other Schengen states. The Schengen visa issued by the Embassy of Netherlands gives access to 26 Schengen countries in total. However, Schengen Visa applications will only be accepted by The Netherlands Visa Application Centre if Netherlands is the country of maximum stay. Should the duration of the stay be the same in several Schengen States, Netherlands must be the first point of entry if making an application at the Netherlands Visa Application Centre?

How early can I apply?
The earliest you can apply is 3 months before you intend to travel. You should apply no later than 15 working days before your trip.

What if I cannot return to collect my passport in person?

What documents should I provide as proof of family relationship with an EU national?
A Copy of Birth Certificate or Marriage Certificate together with copy of passport of EU national.

When will I get my visa?
In most cases, you will be informed within 15 calendar days whether your application has been successful. Sometimes it can take up to 30 days if more time is needed, and up to 60 days in exceptional cases, for example if extra documents are required.
Some Schengen member states want to exchange information on visa applicants. This check (known as ‘consultation’) is mandatory for certain nationalities and can take up to 7 days.

Will I get my visa at the end of the process?
As an application centre, the Netherlands Visa Application Centre will not be able to guarantee you a visa. The issuance or refusal of a visa is the sole prerogative of The Netherlands Embassy. The Netherlands Visa Application Centre cannot influence this decision in any way.

Will my fees be refunded if my visa is refused?

All fees and applicable services charges are non-refundable even in the unfortunate event your visa application is not successful.
