Overview

This visa is solely for the purpose of leisure travel including vacationing, cruising, sightseeing and other recreational activities. If during any portion of their visit to Malta the applicant intends to engage in business, or official duties he/she must refer to other relevant visa categories.

You will need to submit a copy of a medical travel insurance policy that will cover any costs of repatriation on medical grounds, urgent medical care, or emergency hospital treatment. The insurance policy must be valid for the entire Schengen Area, for the entire duration of your stay, and it must provide minimum cover of €30,000.

Visa Application Form

Overview

A Business visa is required if during any portion of the visit applicant intends to conduct business or commercial activities. e.g.; Meetings, Conference, Trainings, Trade Fairs, etc; such visas can only be issued to travellers not being paid for work by an entity within Malta. If the applicant intends to undertake paid work in Malta he/she will need to obtain a work permit.

For short stay visas, please make sure to secure a travel medical insurance before applying for a visa. The insurance must cover the entire period of intended stay, valid for all Schengen States and covering any expenses which may arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention, emergency hospital treatment or death during the stay.

Visa Application Form

Overview

Only seamen who are nationals from a country which is required to have a valid visa to enter the Schengen space need to apply for a seamen transit visa and if they intend to join a ship that is (or will be) in a Schengen port, land with the aim of join another ship that is (or will arrive) in a Schengen port, or land due to sickness, repatriation, holiday and so on.

In accordance with the provisions of Article 4 of the Visa Regulation 2001/539, seafarers no longer require a visa for the performance of their duties in Malta.

This exemption applied for civilian sea crew members who proceed to Malta directly from a third country to join ship, which is berthed in Malta do not require a visa.

Agents shall proceed agent shall proceed to the Police Visa Office, in order to notify the Immigration Authorities of the intended on-signers. The following details shall be submitted by an Agent or any person who is deemed by the Immigration Authorities as a bona fide representative of the seafarer, in a covering letter which clearly identifies the company/vessel.

The following information should be included:

• Name and Surname of Seafarer
• Nationality
• Date of Birth
• Name of Vessel and location
• Passport Number and validity (photocopy is to be submitted)
• Seaman’s Book (photocopy is to be submitted)
• Flight Details
• Additional information may be requested on a case by case basis

It is mandatory in accordance with the Visa Code Regulation that when seafarers are due to enter via a Member State airport, the competent authorities at the Member State port shall inform the competent authorities at the Member State airport of entry, by means of a duly completed form for seafarers in transit who are subject to visa requirements.

The said form duly completed shall be submitted by the Agent or duly authorized person to the Police Visa Office, which shall endorse it after making the necessary verifications, whilst keeping a copy for record purposes. The Agent or duly authorized person shall transmit the form as explained in the previous paragraph.
