Overview
VFS Global Office in Erbil only accepts applications for renewals.
Your application will be forwarded to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs for assessment. You can only apply in person and have to be present during your application for a passport or ID card. This also applies to babies and children.
You cannot apply at VFS Global in Iraq if you are applying for a passport or ID card for the first time, or if your previously issued Dutch travel document is lost or stolen. In these cases you can apply for a your new passport or ID card at a Dutch mission in Türkiye, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates or other countries surrounding Iraq.

Fees
Please note that the VFS Global Offices in Erbil offer an additional optional service for Dutch nationals to apply for a Dutch passport or ID card. VFS charges an extra service fee for this service, to be paid by the applicant.

- An optional SMS facility for updates on your application is available at an additional fee of USD 2 (inclusive of VAT) per application. Please note a valid Iraq mobile number should be provided to avail this service.

Documents Required
Collect all the required documents for your application (checklist)
It is important for your Passport or ID card application that you bring the correct documents with you. Please visit the website of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and follow the instructions given below:
- Create your personal checklist, this is mandatory for your application. At step 1, please fill in the questionnaire and download the result (PDF). Please be aware that you need to collect all the required documents on your personal checklist. And do not forget to check additional requirements at step 2.
- Bring a printed version of your completed and signed application form, as well as your personal checklist, your current Dutch passport, ID card and all other documents specified on the checklist.
- For every document submitted, you must provide the original (to show at the counter) and a photocopy (to be attached to the passport file). You must also provide a copy of the holder page of your passport. Check if you need to have original legalised. The documents must have been drawn up in (or translated into) Dutch, English, French or German
- Make sure that the photograph submitted at the time of your application falls within the specifications. This is important. Unacceptable photographs, that do not meet the Dutch specifications, will not be accepted for submission. Check the photo requirements for Dutch passports and identity cards.
- Please book an online appointment.
What happens to my old passport or ID card?
If you did not hand your old passport or ID card in when you submitted your application, please bring it with you when you come to collect your new one. The embassy or VFS Global will cancel your old passport or ID card and then return it to you.
If your old document contains visas or residence permits that are still valid and you want to keep those pages intact, you should make this known beforehand.

Photo Specifications
Before your appointment, please make sure that your passport photographs meet the official photo requirements for Dutch passports and identity cards. Please note: there are no facilities after office hours to have passport photographs. The shops will be closed.

Processing Time
It can take up to 4 weeks to process your application. You may be asked to provide additional documents by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs once you have submitted your application. In that case, processing may take longer.
