    NOTICE ON FULL APPLICATION OF THE SCHENGEN ACQUIS IN THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA AS OF 1 JANUARY 2023

    As of 1 January 2023, the Schengen acquis is in full application in the Republic of Croatia as a Schengen area Member State.

    Croatian embassies/consulates issue Schengen visas (A and C) and national visas (D).

    CALCULATION OF TIME SPENT IN THE SCHENGEN AREA

    The time spent in the Republic of Croatia is added to the time spent in other Member States of the Schengen area.

    Third country nationals, regardless of whether they are required a visa or not, may stay in the Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180-days period.

    CROATIAN VISAS FOR SHORT-TERM STAY (VISA TYPE C) ISSUED UNTIL 31 DECEMBER 2022

    Croatian short-stay visas (visa type C) issued until 31 December 2022, if not expired, are still valid for entry into the Republic of Croatia, but do not allow entry into other Member States of the Schengen area.

    TERMINATION OF APPLICATION OF THE DECISION OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA ESTABLISHING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF DECISION NO 565/2014/EU

    A family member of a citizen of an EU Member State or the European Economic Area may travel to Croatia without a visa, if (s) he has a valid passport and a valid Residence card of a family member of a Union citizen, and is travelling in the company of or is joining the family member who is a citizen of an EU Member State or the EEA. If the family member of a citizen of an EU Member State or the EEA does not have such a card, (s) he needs a Croatian visa that will be issued on the basis of an accelerated procedure, free of charge.

    A short-stay visa (C) is an authorisation for an intended stay on the territory of the Member States not exceeding 90 days in any 180-day period. It is issued for one, two or more entries for transit, tourist, business, private or other purposes. The allowed number of days of stay in the Schengen area can be calculated by means of an online calculator . Its validity period depends on the circumstances of the visitor’s travel to Croatia and may not exceed five years.

    The visa shall not entitle a visitor to enter the Republic of Croatia.

    A foreigner cannot work in Croatia on the basis of a short-term visa.

    IMPORTANT NOTE –

    Cancellation of accommodation after issuance of visa for the Republic of Croatia may lead to revocation of visa.

    Please provide one recent (not older than 6 months) colour photograph of yourself, meeting the following requirements:

    • Taken against a plain light (white or off-white) background so that features are distinguishable and contrast against the background
    • Clear quality and with the face in focus
    • Full face: non-smiling, no sunglasses, no hat/cap or any head covering, unless the applicant wears such items because of his/her religious belief or ethnic background
    • Printed on normal photographic paper (camera print)

    If the photographs presented do not meet these requirements (see examples here), then the visa application will be considered incomplete and applicant will be asked to take new photographs in the photo booth in the visa application centre.

  • Processing Time

    Please note processing time of minimum 2-4 weeks. In some cases, processing time may take up to 6 weeks plus additional business days for mailing your documents, if the mailing option is chosen. Therefore, make sure to schedule an appointment as early as possible before your intended trip to Croatia.

    The waiting time for an appointment may be up to 6-8 weeks, especially during this high season or during the holiday season.

    A visa application shall be submitted no sooner than six (6) months prior to the date of the intended trip.

    This period may be extended in specific cases, notably when further scrutiny of the application is required, for example, when an applicant must come to an interview or submit additional documentation requested by the Embassy or Consulate. During certain times of the year, the processing time can be longer due to the high volume of applications. It is recommended to submit your visa application at least two weeks prior to date of travel.

    Please note that the application processing time at the Consulate and decisions on visa applications are the sole prerogative of the Embassy or Consulate. VFS Global has no role to play in these areas of the application decision making.
