Short Term Visa

Overview
- If you are planning a short visit to Germany, you may need to apply for a Schengen visa. Germany is one of the 29 European countries forming the Schengen Area which have no border controls between them. These countries also issue a common visa, the Schengen visa for stays up to 90 days.
- Before scheduling an appointment, please make sure that you choose the Mission competent for your place of residence. Failure to do so will lead to your appointment being cancelled and your application not being accepted. Every mission reserves the right to ask for additional documents for proof of your habitual place of residence at the counter.
- All Schengen visa applications accepted for Germany across all Visa Application Centres in India will be forwarded to the German Consulate in Mumbai for a decision.

Visa Fees
The New Visa Fees is effective from 9th July 2025 for all cities.

Please Note:
- The applicable visa fee in Indian Rupees is as per the exchange rate of the German Consulate General, Mumbai.
- Visa fee, VFS service charge and value-added service fee are applicable per customer.
- Visa Fees, service charge and value-added service fees, once paid are non - refundable.
- The use of Optional Services will not affect the decision or turnaround time during the visa procedure.

Documents Required

In addition to the above checklist please ensure the following:
- Valid Travel Health Insurance required to be submitted even in case of transit cases
- Name & Address of the Applicant must reflect in Bank statements
- Name observation passports not accepted
- If your Germany visa application is submitted by a representative or a travel agent, we request you to please ensure that the attached declaration is filled and signed by you, and the representative or travel agent submitting the application form submits a copy of their passport bio page.

Long Term Visa
The categories that applicants can take appointments for at this time are mentioned below:
Consulate General of Germany in Bangalore:
- Family Reunion, Dependent and Intended marriage appointments.

Specialty Cooks:
With effective from 8th April other Bachelor students with a School leaving certificate of less than 90% to book an appointment and submit at Consulate General of Germany in Bangalore.
Mode of payment at Consulate General of Germany Bangalore.
The visa fee for applicants applying in Consulate of Germany Bengaluru is payable by a bank demand draft in favour of. ”Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Bangalore". cash payments are not acceptable.

VFS VAC in Bangalore:
Student Visa:
- Students who are recipients of a full scholarship paid by an official German Academic Institution
- PhD, Doctorate and Post-Doctorate Students holding a binding and unconditional admission letter (“unbeschränkte Zulassung”) from a German University and scientists.
- Master students holding a binding and unconditional admission letter (“unbeschränkte Zulassung”) from a German university.
Master Student- Original Degree certificate*final convocation certificate ( highest qualification only) needs to be submitted along with your application for Consulate verification, same will be returned post verification along with your passport.
Bachelor students only with school leaving certificate of 90% or above or Test AS certificate with a score of 100 or better.
With effective from 8th April 2021 Bachelor students with a school-leaving certificate of 90% or more can book an appointment and submit the documents at VFS
With effective from 8th April 2021 other Bachelor students with a School leaving certificate of less than 90% to book an appointment and submit at Consulate General of Germany in Bangalore.
Bachelors Student- Original Degree certificate*final convocation certificate ( highest qualification only) needs to be submitted along with your application for Consulate verification , same will be returned post verification along with your passport.
Please note: customers without convocation certificate can also submit their original provisional certificate with consolidate marks card.
Employment Visa:
- Applicants for highly qualified employment visas (Blue Card and skilled workers with academic degree).
- ICT-Cards (§19 AufenthG)
- International staff exchange (§19c AufenthG, §10 BeschV)
- PhD applicants with a work contract.
- Employment- Original Degree certificate*final convocation certificate ( highest qualification only), mandatory, “Declaration regarding a contract of employment” Erklärung zum Beschäftigungsverhältnis ( not mandatory ) and ZAV letter/ Pre- approval letter ( not mandatory) needs to be submitted along with your application for Consulate verification , same will be returned post verification along with your passport
- Dependent ( spouse)- Original marriage Certificate needs to be submitted along with your application for Consulate verification , same will be returned post verification along with your passport
- Dependent (children)- Original birth Certificate needs to be submitted along with your application for Consulate verification, same will be returned post verification along with your passport
Please note: customers without convocation certificate can also submit their original provisional certificate with consolidate marks card.
VFS VACs in Bangalore and Kochi as of now accepts applications of priests and pastors although these applicants usually do not have a BA pre approval letter. These customers can book an appointment in the category “employment”. In case they have accompanying family members (spouse and minor children) they can submit their application together with the application of the pastor.

Note: Applications will nevertheless be processed at the German Mission itself. An interview at the Mission might still be necessary in case of further questions or unclear documentation.
VFS will neither be able to provide any information on the status of your application nor will VFS be able to provide a success forecast.

Long Term Appointment Scheduling

Applicants who have an appointment at the Germany Consulate will have to appear for a personal interview directly at the German Consulate with all necessary documents. Please ensure that the appointment letter for the long stay interview bears the current valid passport details.
Before scheduling an appointment, please make sure that you choose the Mission competent for your place of residence. Failure to do so will lead to your appointment being cancelled and your application not being accepted. Every mission reserves the right to ask for additional documents for proof of your habitual place of residence at the counter.
Please note that all visa appointments are handled by VFS ONLY and at NO COST! We request you to not fall prey to any person or agency claiming they can organize a visa interview for you with the German Consulate Bangalore.
Also, please refrain from giving out personal details such as passport number, place and date of birth, parents' names, etc to any third party.

If an applicant is unable to be present at the Consulate for the said interview, he/she is requested to cancel/re-schedule his/her appointment at least 48 hours (two working days) prior to the scheduled date of appointment.
EU Regulation
- Application can be submitted only six (6) months prior to the date of departure.
- From May 1, 2010 only passports issued within the previous ten (10) years will be accepted.
- Passport must have at least two blank pages.
- Passport should be valid for at least three (3) months longer than the intended stay.
- Handwritten passports are not accepted.
