Airport Transit

Overview
Please note that the entry clearance requirements depend on the citizenship and residence status of an applicant. Only a flight through one Schengen Union Country at a time is considered as transit. Please find the further information here If you leave the airport's international transit area, i.e. change the terminal, you will have to apply for a Schengen Visa - Category C.
In Germany, the following airports have an International Transit Area: Cologne/Bonn (transit only possible between 4:30 am and 11:00 pm), Düsseldorf (transit only possible between 6:00 am and 9:00 pm and only if the airline has arranged the transit with airport security – please check with your airline), Frankfurt/Main, Hamburg (limited time frame only 4:30 am to 11:30 pm), Munich (München).
Please check with your travel agent / airline, if your flight is going via another airport. If you leave the airport’s international transit area, i.e. change the terminal, you will have to apply for a Schengen Visa – Category C.

Documents Required
Photo Specifications
- The photographs must be:
- No more than 6-months old
- 35-40mm in width
- Close up of your head and top of your shoulders so that your face takes up 70 -80% of the photograph
- In sharp focus and clear
- Of high quality with no ink marks or creases
- Show you looking directly at the camera
- Show your skin tones naturally
- Have appropriate brightness and contrast
- Be printed on high quality paper, and at high resolution Photographs taken with a digital camera must be high quality colour and printed on photo-quality paper.
- Be colour neutral
- Show your eyes open and clearly visible-no hair across your eyes
- Show you facing square on to the camera, not looking over one shoulder (portrait style) or tilted, and showing both edges of your face clearly
- Be taken with a white background
- Be taken with uniform lighting and not show shadows or flash reflections on your face and no red eye
- If you wear glasses:
- Be colour neutral
- The photograph must show your eyes clearly with no flash reflection off the glasses, and no tinted lenses (if possible, avoid heavy frames - wear lighter framed glasses if you have them)
- Make sure that the frames do not cover any part of your eyes.
- Head coverings :
- Are not permitted except for religious reasons, but your facial features from bottom of chin to top of forehead and both edges of your face must be clearly shown.
- Show you alone (no chair backs, toys or other people visible), looking at the camera with a neutral expression and your mouth closed.
Processing Time
Please ensure that you file your visa application at least 2 weeks prior to your trip!
As a rule, missions require 15 days to decide on an application for a short stay visa.
Kuwaiti nationals: no transit Visa Required for Kuwaiti passports holders.
Other nationalities: The Processing time by the Embassy takes at least 11 to 15 working days
The Processing time can exceed the above-mentioned period in case your applications needs further scrutiny or if you need to submit additional documents.
During this time, neither the Embassy nor the Visa Application Centre can provide any information on the details of your application. Inquiries regarding the status of visa applications can only be handled after completion of the above stated processing period.
The visa clearance is a computerized process – the German Embassy has no influence of the processing time.
During the peak travel season there may be a waiting period for making an application to a German mission. Persons requiring a visa to enter Germany should therefore submit their applications in good time which is at least 2 to 3 weeks prior to the travel date. You may apply as early as 180 days before your entry date to Schengen area.

Business/Conference/Trade Fair

Overview
A business visa is required if the applicant intends to conduct business or commercial activities. e.g.; meetings, conference, trainings, Trade Fairs, etc. Such visas can only be issued to applicants not being paid for work by an entity within Germany.

This visa allows applicants travelling for medical reasons to Germany. It includes Medical Patients and accompanying medical escorts travelling with the patient.

Tourist Visa

This visa is solely for the purpose of leisure travel including vacationing, cruising, sightseeing and other recreational activities. If during any portion of their visit to Germany the applicant intends to engage in business, or official duties he/she must refer to other relevant visa categories.

Visa for Spouse/Relatives of EU/German Nationals

Overview
Visa Facilitation for family members of EU/EEA and German Nationals
Family members under this category are:
- Spouse/partner/common law spouse
- The direct descendants (children) who are under the age of 21 or are dependents, and those of the spouse or partner.
- The dependent direct relatives in the ascending line (e.g. parents) and those of the spouse or partner.
The applicant will have to provide evidence that he/she falls under this category. An application for a Schengen visa for this purpose is free of charge; however, the service fee is applicable if the application is made at a visa service centre.

Visa Fees
Spouses and minor children of German nationals and EU / EWR citizens as well as parents of German minor children and minor children of EU / EWR citizens are exempt from the visa fee for all categories when travelling with the German national, EU / EWR citizen or rejoining him / her in the Schengen area
Applicants applying under this category at the Germany Visa Application Centre shall be levied a non-refundable service charge of 12.170 KWD
