Short-stay Schengen visa

(For a maximum stay of 90 days per 180-day period)

If you wish to visit Germany for a short period of time, you must obtain a visa prior to entry if you come from a country with a visa requirement for entering Germany.

A short-stay Schengen visa allows the holder to transit through or remain in German territory and all other Schengen States for a maximum period of three months (90 days) within any period of 180 days.

Visiting more than one Schengen country?

You will have to obtain the Schengen visa from the country where the main purpose of travel lies.

When travelling to more than one Schengen country, submit your application with the country where you will be staying the longest. In case of equally long stays, you must apply with the Schengen country where you arrive first.

    For Persons applying for Airport Transit Visa

    Entry clearance requirements depend on the citizenship and resident status of the applicant (sometimes in a third country). Only a flight through one Schengen Union Country at a time is considered as a transit. In Germany, the following airports have an International Transit Area: Cologne/Bonn (transit only possible between 4:30 am and 11:00 pm), Düsseldorf (transit only possible between 6:00 am and 9:00 pm and only if the airline has arranged the transit with airport security – please check with your airline), Frankfurt/Main, Hamburg (limited time frame only 4:30 am to 11:30 pm), Munich (München).

    Please check with your travel agent / airline, if your flight is going via another airport. If you leave the airport’s international transit area, i.e. change the terminal, you will have to apply for a Schengen Visa – Category C.

    Requirements:

    1. NEW! Should NOT be older than 6 months.
    2. A frontal view of the face covering 67.20 -80% (32-26mm) of the photo.
    3. A uniform and white-colour background.
    4. Clear facial features and eyes – not covered by hair or glasses frame.
    5. Head coverings are only accepted for religious reasons.
    6. Do not glue or staple the pictures to the application form.

  • Processing Time

    The processing time for the application at the German Consulate is approximately 15 calendar days.

    Please be advised that due to the above-mentioned minimum processing time, we are not able to guarantee the return of passports by specific dates for travel.

    Please be sure to submit your visa application well in advance, to avoid any inconveniences.

    This visa is solely for the purpose of leisure travel including vacationing, cruising, sightseeing and other recreational activities. Applicant will have to provide evidence that he/she falls under this category, kindly refer to the information sheet of documents required.
