Short-term visa (maximum stay of 90 days)

If you are planning a short visit to Greece for up to 90 days or less and you do not have the nationality of one of the countries of the European Economic Area (EEA), you may need to apply for a Schengen visa. Greece is one of the 26 European countries forming the Schengen Area which have no border controls between them. These countries also issue a common visa, the Schengen visa for a stay of up to 90 days during a period of 6 months from the date of the first entry into the territory of the Schengen States. Please note that the following essentials must be met by all applicants submitting their applications for visa.

  • Passport should have at least two blank pages.
  • Passport should be valid for at least 3 months from the date on which the applicant intends to leave the SCHENGEN territory, or, in the case of multiple journeys the date on which the applicant intends to leave it for the last time.
  • Applications are only accepted within 3 months of the requested date of arrival

  • Application will be accepted only until 15 days (excluding VFS handling time) before the date of travel.
  • Applicants applying for Schengen Visa have to complete the visa application form and affix recent photograph.

    If the visit involves two or more Schengen countries, the Embassy/Consulate responsible for the issuance of the visa will be:
    1. The Embassy/Consulate of the country in which the traveller is going to stay the longest.
    2. If the traveller is to stay the same time in different Schengen countries, the Embassy/Consulate of the country of first entry.

    5. Representatives of non-profit organisations aged 25 years or less participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organised by non-profit organisations
    6. Holders of diplomatic and VIP passports.

    archive the visa application process if it has not been picked up by the applicant within one month of notification or grant

  • Photo Specifications

    Applicants, submit your Application form with the new photo format, as explained below:


    General
    • The photo must fulfill the norm specified by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization).
    • Photo must have plain white background.
    • The photo must be no more than 6-months old.
    • Not tilted picture (portrait style) showing both edges of face clearly.
    • Close up of the head and top of the shoulders so that the face takes up 70–80% of the photograph.
    • Photo in sharp focus and clear.

    Photo Size

    The photo for each visa applicant submitted must measure:
    • The picture dimensions must be 240 pixels wide by 320 pixels high at least. A smaller picture will be rejected. For instance, a photo being 235 pixels by 320 pixels is not valid.
    • On the other hand, the photo should keep a proportion of 3 x 4 (width x height) within limits. However, 250 x 340 pixels picture would be valid, but not a 290 x 340 pixels one.
    • Finally, the image weight (size in Kbytes) can never be bigger than 120 Kbytes.

    Resolution:
    • An image resolution is measured in DPI (dots per inch) and it's mainly used to control printing quality. Therefore, higher resolution means better printing quality.
    • The resolution of the photos should be 300 dpi, so, when you scan the image, check this parameter carefully. However, bear in mind that the higher the resolution, the bigger the picture.
    • The only image format accepted is JPEG (Join Photograph Expert Group Format). The other image formats such as BMP, TIFF, GIF, PNG, etc. will be rejected (a warning will be shown).

    Attaching the Photo to the Application form
    • Glue one photograph to the application form in the designated space.
    Note : If children are traveling with their parents and are included inside the passport of the mother and/or the father, a separate application form (with the photo of the child) needs to be filled out for each child and all the supporting documents present in the father’s and /or mother’s application need to be photocopied and presented in the child’s application.

    Please follow these instructions carefully. If the photograph presented does not meet these requirements your application will be considered incomplete.

  • Overview

    The procedures and conditions for issuing these visas are set out in European Parliament and Council Regulation (CE) No. 810/2009, which establishes a Community Code on visas.

    The airport transit visa application must be submitted on a duly completed application form (original and copy), which can be downloaded free of charge from this web page or can also be obtained free of charge from the Greece Diplomatic Missions or Consular Offices abroad.

    The visa must be applied for either in person or through a duly accredited representative in the Diplomatic Mission or Greece Consular Office in the country where the applicant legally resides. If there is no Diplomatic Mission or Consular Office in a particular country, applicants can apply for the visa in the Diplomatic Mission or Consular Office that represents Greece in that country.

    When submitting the visa application, the established fee must be paid (generally €60) paid in local currency. This fee is non-refundable and therefore will not be refunded if the visa application is unsuccessful. Under certain circumstances applicants may be entitled to a reduction or may be exempt from paying the fee. Please consult the Diplomatic Missions or Greece Consular Offices. For all other necessary requirements, please consult the Diplomatic Mission or Consular Office where the visa application is being made as these may vary according to the applicant's country of origin.

    The maximum period for processing airport transit visa applications is fifteen calendar days from the date the application is submitted. This period can be extended to a maximum of 30 calendar days in specific cases, especially if a more detailed examination of the application is required. By way of exception, in specific cases in which additional documentation is required, this period can be extended to a maximum of 60 calendar days. Long-term visa (stay more than 90 days)

A long-stay “D” visa allows its holder to enter and stay in Greece for more than 3 months. Holders of a national visa have the obligation to apply for a residence permit to Greece immediately after their entry to the country.

The applicant must submit an application for a visa for a long stay in Greece as well as the supporting documents, that are requested according to the purpose of the intended stay.

    You may lodge an application for a student visa when you intend to travel for study or research purposes for more than 90 days.

    Only Palestinian nationals and nationals of third countries who are legal residents in Palestinian territories can apply for a visa at the Consulate General of Greece in Jerusalem

    Erasmus Mundus Scholarship

      An Erasmus Mundus scholarshio holder student Will have to apply for Schengen C (short term visa). They do not need to pay visa fees. However service charge of 150 NIS is applicable.

    • The photo must fulfill the norm specified by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization).
    • Photo must have plain white background.
    • The photo must be no more than 6-months old.
    • Not tilted picture (portrait style) showing both edges of face clearly.
    • Close up of the head and top of the shoulders so that the face takes up 70–80% of the photograph.
    • Photo in sharp focus and clear.

    Photo Size

    The photo for each visa applicant submitted must measure:
    • The picture dimensions must be 240 pixels wide by 320 pixels high at least. A smaller picture will be rejected. For instance, a photo being 235 pixels by 320 pixels is not valid.
    • On the other hand, the photo should keep a proportion of 3 x 4 (width x height) within limits. However, 250 x 340 pixels picture would be valid, but not a 290 x 340 pixels one.
    • Finally, the image weight (size in Kbytes) can never be bigger than 120 Kbytes.

    Resolution:
    • An image resolution is measured in DPI (dots per inch) and it's mainly used to control printing quality. Therefore, higher resolution means better printing quality.
    • The resolution of the photos should be 300 dpi, so, when you scan the image, check this parameter carefully. However, bear in mind that the higher the resolution, the bigger the picture.
    • The only image format accepted is JPEG (Join Photograph Expert Group Format). The other image formats such as BMP, TIFF, GIF, PNG, etc. will be rejected (a warning will be shown).

    Attaching the Photo to the Application form
    • Glue one photograph to the application form in the designated space.
    Note : If children are traveling with their parents and are included inside the passport of the mother and/or the father, a separate application form (with the photo of the child) needs to be filled out for each child and all the supporting documents present in the father’s and /or mother’s application need to be photocopied and presented in the child’s application.

    Please follow these instructions carefully. If the photograph presented does not meet these requirements your application will be considered incomplete.

    You may lodge an application for a Employees in Private Companies visa when you intend to travel for employment purpose for more than 90 days.

    Only Palestinian nationals and nationals of third countries who are legal residents in Palestinian territories can apply for a visa at the Consulate General of Greece in Jerusalem

    Visa applicants are requested to appear in person at the time of submission.

    Incomplete, unclear or unsigned applications will not be accepted.

    Visa fees are non-refundable and have to be paid only in cash at the time of application.
