Long Term Visa
Applicants who wish to apply for Resident Permits or D Visa for Iceland mission will apply for their application with the Directorate of immigration department (contact Email: [email protected] ). Once the application is accepted by the Directorate of immigration department, the Directorate of Immigration will request the applicant to visit the nearest visa application centre to submit their application.
Visa application centre in Washington DC will connect with applicants and guide them to the next steps of submitting their Passport for visa issuance

Overview
A Schengen visa is valid for 26 Schengen member states and is for short stay for a maximum period of ninety days within a six months period. A Schengen visa allows the holder to travel freely across the Schengen member states.
The following 26 countries have implemented the Schengen Agreement: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
A Schengen visa can only be applied for up to three months prior to your entry into the country.

Processing usually takes 15 business days from receipt by the Embassy of a complete application and may take longer during peak times and in exceptional circumstances. This estimate excludes the shipping of applications to the Embassy and the return of passports to applicants. The Embassy does NOT provide status updates on visa applications.

Fees are subject to change without notice. If your application meets the initial checks upon submission, it will then be accepted for payment at the Visa Application Center. Payment can be made via credit/debit card. Personal Checks or cash are not accepted.

EXEMPTIONS
Type of applicants that are exempt from paying the application fee:
The visa fee shall be waived for applicants belonging to one of the following categories:
- children under six years.
- school pupils, students, postgraduate students and accompanying teachers who undertake stays for the purpose of study or educational training.
- researchers, as defined in point (2) of Article 3 of Directive (EU) 2016/801 of the European Parliament and of the Council (1), travelling for the purpose of carrying out scientific research or participating in a scientific seminar or conference.
- representatives of non-profit organizations aged 25 years or less participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organized by non-profit organizations.
- holders of diplomatic and service passports. (Holders of diplomatic and service passports are now exempt from paying the visa fee regardless of the reason for traveling to Iceland)
Note: some Member States grant additional visa fee waivers for specific categories of applicants.
The visa facilitation agreement between the EU and the Russian Federation is no longer applicable.
Russian nationals are to be charged the same visa fee as all other applicants.
Note:
Incomplete Applications and Refund Policy:
- VFS Global will attempt to contact an applicant via telephone or email for any information lacking as required to constitute a complete application. The applicant will be required to provide the necessary information within 2 working days, failing which the application may be considered incomplete and returned.
- All fees other than VFS Global Service Fees will be refunded for an application considered to be incomplete.

Important notes
In order to ensure quick and efficient visa processing you must prepare all necessary documentation before you submit the application package to VFS Global. Failing to submit all relevant documentation will result in unnecessary delays or might lead to a refusal of your application. Therefore, please do not approach the visa reception before you have collected all supporting documentation. Personal appearance is requested for applicants applying for a Schengen visa to Iceland for the first time.
Information about the application will be shared with the other Schengen countries and applying under false circumstances may affect future applications for the Schengen area.
English translations must accompany the documents not originally in English. The supporting application documents should be handed in on letter size papers:
- Travel document - The Passport should be valid for at least three months (any other type of travel document should be valid for at least six months), beyond the intended duration of stay in the Schengen territory and with at least two blank pages to affix the visa.
- Application form: Fully completed application form and signed by the applicant. Please note that any incomplete information or false statements could result in delay in the processing of the application. The application form can be filled on online on the following page: Application form
- Photograph - One recent passport-size photograph in color with a white background and good resemblance. (3.5cm / 4.5cm). The photograph should not be older than six months. (Photo specification)

Proof of Legal Residence in the United States
- Valid original U.S. Resident Alien Card (Green card) or a valid U.S. visa including the I-94 online registration or valid original EAD card if it serves as advance parole. The Resident Alien Card, visa or EAD must be valid for at least three months after the intended departure from the Schengen area.
- Students: A valid I-20 form (signed by the school within 12 months) or letter from the school on official letterhead with stamp, date, name/position/signature of the countersigning officer with contact information stating the name of the applicant, years of studies and an approval of absence for the duration of travel.

Covering letter - A Covering letter from the US organization or company containing following details:
- Name and designation of the applicant and also of the signatory (of managerial or executive level) with signature.
- An outline of the applicant’s itinerary, purpose of visit, names and addresses of the companies he/she intends to visit, period & place of intended stay.
- Self-employed should submit the latest tax returns (1040) and the business registration.
- Working dependent visa holder (H4, L2, F2) must provide color copy of EAD card.
- Invitation letter - A signed invitation letter from the Icelandic company containing
- Name of the invited applicant,
- Purpose of visit,
- Dates of the intended stay,
- Nature of costs being covered (boarding & lodging). - Completely filled form from the Icelandic Directorate of Immigration available on the following website. Invitation form
- Travel Medical Insurance - Overseas travel medical insurance valid for all Schengen-countries. The insurance has to cover the applicant for at least 30,000 Euros or 35.000 US Dollars or equivalent, for all risks e.g. accident, illness, medical emergency evacuation etc. The policy has to clearly specify the period of validity and has to cover the entire duration of the trip including the date of arrival & departure. Proof of means of Transport - Flight reservations of return or round ticket. If applicant is traveling to several Schengen states proof of intra-Schengen Flight reservation, Train Itinerary or Car rental. Proof of Lodging - Proof of accommodation: Hotel bookings or accommodation guarantees, covering the whole duration of the intended stay. Proof of Financial means - Evidence of source of Financial support such as: i. Original bank statement showing movements in the last three months, duly stamped and signed by the bank. The account should be in the name of the applicant or the sponsor of the trip. In case of a sponsor, the bank statement should be accompanied by a signed sponsorship letter and a signed copy of the sponsor’s passport. ii. In case applicant is the proprietor / owner of the company, company’s bank statement, the latest tax returns (1040) and the business registration.
- Passport Copy - All applications must contain a full colour photocopy of the valid passport - all pages of the passport are required. - If there are any valid visas for Schengen or USA/UK/Canada/Australia (issued in last three years) in the old/cancelled passport then a colour photocopy of the visa pages and passport data pages are required.

General Information
- All documents should be provided in letter size.
- Please submit only photocopies of all documents, as we do not guarantee the return of any original documents but do carry original documents at the time of submission. The Embassy reserves the right to request the original of any document provided at any point during visa processing and, if deemed necessary, to interview the applicant.
- English translations must accompany the documents not originally in English.
- The applicants should allow for a processing time of minimum 15 days, excluding the VFS handling time back and forth to the Iceland Embassy.

Photo Specifications
Please provide one recent (not older than 6 months) color photograph of yourself, meeting the following requirements:
- Taken against a plain light (white or off-white) background so that features are distinguishable and contrast against the background
- Clear quality and with the face in focus
- Full face: non-smiling, no sunglasses, no hat/cap or any head covering, unless the applicant wears such items because of his/her religious belief or ethnic background
- Printed on normal photographic paper (camera print)

If the photographs presented do not meet these requirements (see examples here), then the visa application will be considered incomplete and applicant will be asked to take new photographs in the photo booth in the visa application center.
Note: For Mail in applications photo needs to be in high resolution at 300 DPI and the dimension is 580 x 446.
Processing Time
NOTE: Visas cannot be issued on the same day. Expedited visa processing is not applicable. The normal processing time of a Schengen Visa to Iceland is 15 days from when the Embassy receives your application from VFS.
It is recommended that you apply 180 days prior to your planned departure.
Missing supporting documents may cause a further delay in processing your application.
In cases of countries with a visa facilitation agreement with the EU this time period is 10 days.
Furthermore applicants need to consider that VFS/Mission’s closures and holidays (see Public Holidays/Closures) may extend the visa application processing time.
Applicants submitting their visa application in our satellite center in New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Houston TX, need to calculate 2 extra days to their minimum processing time as their visa application will first be dispatched to the Embassy of Iceland.
The Mission may always request for additional information/documents or invite applicants for an interview during the visa application process and this may cause delays in the visa process, which applicants accept responsibility for.

Proof of employment or studies:
- Employment: the employer’s letter on official letterhead with contact information, stamp, date, the name and position of the countersigning officer. The letter needs to state the name and position of the applicant, the duration of employment, salary and approval of absence for the duration of travel.
- If applicant is self employed he must hand in his latest tax returns (1040) and his business registration.
- Students that do not possess a valid I-20 form must provide a proof of enrolment.
- Travel Medical Insurance - You must hold a travel insurance policy to cover possible expenses in connection with a return for all risks e.g. accident, illness, medical emergency evacuation etc. during your stay. The insurance policy must cover all the Schengen countries, and the minimum policy coverage is Euro 30,000 or US Dollar 35,000. The insurance policy must be valid for the entire duration of the intended stay. The validity of the visa may be shortened if the insurance policy does not cover the entire duration of the stay. You must ensure always to have a valid Schengen travel insurance during your stays in the Schengen area. The border authorities may ask to see proof of a valid insurance when you enter Schengen. - Please note: presenting just the copy of the medical insurance card is not sufficient, you need to present a confirmation letter from your insurance company stating clearly that you have international coverage for: any emergency medical expenses, emergency hospital treatment and repatriation for medical reasons.
- Proof of means of Transport: Flight reservation of return or round ticket. If the applicant is travelling to several Schengen States, proof of intra-Schengen flight reservation, train itinerary or car rental. Please note that the tickets do not have to be paid, only the flight booking needs to be submitted.
- Proof of Lodging: Hotel reservations, rental of holiday home or campus residence reservation. If the applicant intends to stay with a family member or a friend, proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation is required from the host. Individual Schengen States may require applicant to present proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation by completing a form drawn up by the Schengen State’s competent authority (hereinafter 'national form'). If applicant is travelling to several Schengen States, proof of lodging in each of them should be submitted.
- Proof of Financial means: Original bank statement showing movements in the last three months, duly stamped and signed by the bank. The account should be in the name of the applicant or the sponsor of the trip. In case of a sponsor, the bank statement should be accompanied by a signed sponsorship letter and a signed copy of the sponsor’s passport. - Retirees must provide proof of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or retirement savings or other financial support. - Unemployed must provide unemployment benefits or other financial support.

Minor Applicant:
- Minors must submit their birth certificate. If the document is not in English, a notarized copy must be provided.
- Valid original U.S. Resident Alien Card (Green card) or a valid U.S. visa including the I-94 online registration or valid original EAD card if it serves as advance parole. The Resident Alien Card, visa or EAD must be valid for at least three months after the intended departure from the Schengen area.
- If the minor is travelling with only one parent, notarized consent of the other parent or guardian, and a signed copy of their passport or other photo ID. In case a person has sole custody or guardianship of the minor, proof of this should be submitted. - If the minor travels alone (without parents), notarized consent, from both parents or legal guardians of the minor; as well as signed copies of the passports or other photo ID of the parents or legal guardians.
- All minors must be accompanied by both parents or legal guardians and sign the application form in front of a VFS officer. Except in cases where, the child is traveling with one parent to visit the other parent, who is residing in Iceland. EXEMPTIONS
Type of applicants that are exempt from paying the application fee:
The visa fee shall be waived for applicants belonging to one of the following categories:
- children under six years.
- school pupils, students, postgraduate students and accompanying teachers who undertake stays for the purpose of study or educational training.
- researchers, as defined in point (2) of Article 3 of Directive (EU) 2016/801 of the European Parliament and of the Council (1), travelling for the purpose of carrying out scientific research or participating in a scientific seminar or conference.
- representatives of non-profit organizations aged 25 years or less participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organized by non-profit organizations.
- holders of diplomatic and service passports. (Holders of diplomatic and service passports are now exempt from paying the visa fee regardless of the reason for traveling to Iceland)
Note: some Member States grant additional visa fee waivers for specific categories of applicants.
The visa facilitation agreement between the EU and the Russian Federation is no longer applicable.
Russian nationals are to be charged the same visa fee as all other applicants.

Incomplete Applications and Refund Policy:
- VFS Global will attempt to contact an applicant via telephone or email for any information lacking as required to constitute a complete application. The applicant will be required to provide the necessary information within 2 working days, failing which the application may be considered incomplete and returned.
- All fees other than VFS Global Service Fees will be refunded for an application considered to be incomplete.

- Marriage certificate – if the applicant is visiting their spouse who has a permanent residence in Iceland.
- Proof of family relationship.

Proof of Legal Residence in the United States
- Valid original U.S. Resident Alien Card (Green card) or a valid U.S. visa including the I-94 online registration or valid original EAD card if it serves as advance parole. The Resident Alien Card, visa or EAD must be valid for at least three months after the intended departure from the Schengen area.
- Students: A valid I-20 form (signed by the school within 12 months) or letter from the school on official letterhead with stamp, date, name/position/signature of the countersigning officer with contact information stating the name of the applicant, years of studies and an approval of absence for the duration of travel.

Proof of employment or studies:
- Employment: the employer’s letter on official letterhead with contact information, stamp, date, the name and position of the countersigning officer. The letter needs to state the name and position of the applicant, the duration of employment, salary and approval of absence for the duration of travel.
- If applicant is self employed he must hand in his latest tax returns (1040) and his business registration. - Students that do not possess a valid I-20 form must provide a proof of enrolment.

Invitation letter:
- A signed invitation letter from the Icelandic host containing the name of the invited applicant, purpose of visit, dates of the intended stay, nature of costs being covered (boarding & lodging).

- Minor Applicant - Minors must submit their birth certificate. If the document is not in English, a notarized copy must be provided. - Valid original U.S. Resident Alien Card (Green card) or a valid U.S. visa including the I-94 online registration or valid original EAD card if it serves as advance parole. The Resident Alien Card, visa or EAD must be valid for at least three months after the intended departure from the Schengen area. - If the minor is travelling with only one parent, notarized consent of the other parent or guardian, and a signed copy of their passport or other photo ID. In case a person has sole custody or guardianship of the minor, proof of this should be submitted. - If the minor travels alone (without parents), notarized consent, from both parents or legal guardians of the minor; as well as signed copies of the passports or other photo ID of the parents or legal guardians. - All minors must be accompanied by both parents or legal guardians and sign the application form in front of a VFS officer. Except in cases where, the child is traveling with one parent to visit the other parent, who is residing in Iceland.
- Travel Medical Insurance - You must hold a travel insurance policy to cover possible expenses in connection with a return for all risks e.g. accident, illness, medical emergency evacuation etc. during your stay. The insurance policy must cover all the Schengen countries, and the minimum policy coverage is Euro 30,000 or US Dollar 35,000. The insurance policy must be valid for the entire duration of the intended stay. The validity of the visa may be shortened if the insurance policy does not cover the entire duration of the stay. You must ensure always to have a valid Schengen travel insurance during your stays in the Schengen area. The border authorities may ask to see proof of a valid insurance when you enter Schengen. - Please note: presenting just the copy of the medical insurance card is not sufficient, you need to present a confirmation letter from your insurance company stating clearly that you have international coverage for: any emergency medical expenses, emergency hospital treatment and repatriation for medical reasons. Proof of means of Transport - Flight reservations of return or round ticket. If applicant is traveling to several Schengen states proof of intra-Schengen Flight reservation, Train Itinerary or Car rental. Proof of Financial means - Original bank statement showing movements in the last three months, duly stamped and signed by the bank. The account should be in the name of the applicant or the sponsor of the trip. In case of a sponsor, the bank statement should be accompanied by a signed sponsorship letter and a signed copy of the sponsor’s passport. - Retirees must provide proof of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or retirement savings or other financial support. - Unemployed must provide unemployment benefits or other financial support.

Proof of the host is legally residing in Iceland:
- If the host is Icelandic, copy of the host‘passport
- If the host is an EU citizen, copy of passport and registration in Iceland.
- If the host is a third country national copy of passport and valid residence permit in Iceland. If the host holds an expired residence permit, but has applied for renewal, the embassy will make a decision based on the specific details of the situation.
- Passport Copy - All applications must contain a full colour photocopy of the valid passport - all pages of the passport are required. - If there are any valid visas for Schengen or USA/UK/Canada/Australia (issued in last three years) in the old/cancelled passport then a colour photocopy of the visa pages and passport data pages are required.
- General Information - All documents should be provided in letter size. - Please submit only photocopies of all documents, as we do not guarantee the return of any original documents but do carry original documents at the time of submission. - Clear quality and with the face in focus
- Full face: non-smiling, no sunglasses, no hat/cap or any head covering, unless the applicant wears such items because of his/her religious belief or ethnic background
- Printed on normal photographic paper (camera print)

If the photographs presented do not meet these requirements (see examples here), then the visa application will be considered incomplete and applicant will be asked to take new photographs in the photo booth in the visa application center.

Processing Time
NOTE: Visas cannot be issued on the same day. Expedited visa processing is not applicable. The normal processing time of a Schengen Visa to Iceland is 15 days from when the Embassy receives your application from VFS.
It is recommended that you apply 180 days prior to your planned departure.
Missing supporting documents may cause a further delay in processing your application.
In cases of countries with a visa facilitation agreement with the EU this time period is 10 days.
Furthermore applicants need to consider that VFS/Mission’s closures and holidays (see Public Holidays/Closures) may extend the visa application processing time.
Applicants submitting their visa application in our satellite center in New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Houston TX, need to calculate 2 extra days to their minimum processing time as their visa application will first be dispatched to the Embassy of Iceland.
The Mission may always request for additional information/documents or invite applicants for an interview during the visa application process and this may cause delays in the visa process, which applicants accept responsibility for.

Overview
A Schengen visa is valid for 26 Schengen member states and is for short stay for a maximum period of ninety days within a six months period. A Schengen visa allows the holder to travel freely across the Schengen member states.

Transit Visa

Overview
For the purpose of Schengen rules airport transit means only a transit from a flight from a non-Schengen member state through an airport in Iceland and onwards to another non-Schengen member state.
Citizens of the following states need a valid Airport Transit Visa (Issued by Iceland) to transit through an Icelandic airport, with or without changing the airplane.
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, The People's Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka.
Unless they are holders of a residence permit listed below:
United States of America
Form I-551 Alien registration receipt card

Form I-327 Re-entry document
Resident alien card(valid 2 or 10 years or unlimited. Only sufficient if the holder has not resided outside of USA for longer than one year).

Valid temporary residence stamp in a valid passport (valid for one year from date of issuance).

EXEMPTIONS
Type of applicants that are exempt from paying the application fee:
The visa fee shall be waived for applicants belonging to one of the following categories:
- children under six years.
- school pupils, students, postgraduate students and accompanying teachers who undertake stays for the purpose of study or educational training.
- researchers, as defined in point (2) of Article 3 of Directive (EU) 2016/801 of the European Parliament and of the Council (1), travelling for the purpose of carrying out scientific research or participating in a scientific seminar or conference.
- representatives of non-profit organizations aged 25 years or less participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organized by non-profit organizations.
- holders of diplomatic and service passports. (Holders of diplomatic and service passports are now exempt from paying the visa fee regardless of the reason for traveling to Iceland)
Note: some Member States grant additional visa fee waivers for specific categories of applicants.
The visa facilitation agreement between the EU and the Russian Federation is no longer applicable.
Russian nationals are to be charged the same visa fee as all other applicants.
Note:
Incomplete Applications and Refund Policy:
- VFS Global will attempt to contact an applicant via telephone or email for any information lacking as required to constitute a complete application. The applicant will be required to provide the necessary information within 2 working days, failing which the application may be considered incomplete and returned.
- All fees other than VFS Global Service Fees will be refunded for an application considered to be incomplete.

Important notes
In order to ensure quick and efficient visa processing you must prepare all necessary documentation before you submit the application package to VFS Global. Failing to submit all relevant documentation will result in unnecessary delays or might lead to a refusal of your application. Therefore, please do not approach the visa reception before you have collected all supporting documentation. Personal appearance is requested for applicants applying for a Schengen visa to Iceland for the first time.
Information about the application will be shared with the other Schengen countries and applying under false circumstances may affect future applications for the Schengen area.
English translations must accompany the documents not originally in English. The supporting application documents should be handed in on letter size papers:
- Travel document o Your passport or travel document must be valid for minimum three months after the intended departure from the Schengen area, o It shall contain at least two blank pages, o It shall have been issued within the past 10 years, o It should not have any observation regarding the front data page. - Photograph One recent original passport-size color photograph with white background. Photograph should not be older than six months.

Travel Medical Insurance:
- You must hold a travel insurance policy to cover possible expenses in connection with a return for all risks e.g. accident, illness, medical emergency evacuation etc. during your stay. The insurance policy must cover all the Schengen countries, and the minimum policy coverage is Euro 30,000 or US Dollar 35,000. The insurance policy must be valid for the entire duration of the intended stay. The validity of the visa may be shortened if the insurance policy does not cover the entire duration of the stay. You must ensure always to have a valid Schengen travel insurance during your stays in the Schengen area. The border authorities may ask to see proof of a valid insurance when you enter Schengen.
- Please note presenting just the copy of the medical insurance card is not sufficient, you need to present a confirmation letter from your insurance company stating clearly that you have international coverage for: any emergency medical expenses, emergency hospital treatment and repatriation for medical reasons.

Proof of employment or studies:
- Valid original U.S. Resident Alien Card (Green card) or a valid U.S. visa including the I-94 online registration or valid original EAD card if it serves as advance parole. The Resident Alien Card, visa or EAD must be valid for at least three months after the intended departure from the Schengen area.
- Students: A valid I-20 form (signed by the school within 12 months) or letter from the school on official letterhead with stamp, date, name/position/signature of the countersigning officer with contact information stating the name of the applicant, years of studies and an approval of absence for the duration of travel.
- Proof of means of Travel - Travel itinerary - Flight reservation of return or one way ticket to one‘country of origin. Please note that the tickets do not have to be paid, only the flight booking needs to be submitted. - If travelling in an organized tour, proof from travel agency or tour operator confirming the booking of the tour. - Visa to the destination country (if required).

Proof of Legal Residence in the United States:
- Notarized copy of U.S. Alien Registration Card or other valid resident visa (type A, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, O, or R) valid for at least three months after the intended departure from the Schengen area.
- Students: A valid I-20 form (signed by the school within 12 months) or letter from the school on official letterhead with stamp, date, name/position/signature of the countersigning officer with contact information stating the name of the applicant, years of studies and an approval of absence for the duration of travel.

Proof of employment or studies:
- Employment: the employer’s letter on official letterhead with contact information, stamp, date, the name and position of the countersigning officer. The letter needs to state the name and position of the applicant, the duration of employment, salary and approval of absence for the duration of travel.
- If applicant is self employed he must hand in his latest tax returns (1040) and his business registration. - Students that do not possess a valid I-20 form must provide a proof of enrolment.

Proof of Financial means: Evidence of source of Financial support such as:
- Original bank statement showing movements in the last three months, duly stamped and signed by the bank. The account should be in the name of the applicant or the sponsor of the trip. In case of a sponsor, the bank statement should be accompanied by a signed sponsorship letter and a signed copy of the sponsor’s passport.
- In case applicant is the proprietor / owner of the company, company’s bank statement, the latest tax returns (1040) and the business registration.
- Retirees must provide proof of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or retirement savings or other financial support. - Unemployed must provide unemployment benefits or other financial support.
- Minor Applicant - Minors must submit their birth certificate. If the document is not in English, a notarized copy must be provided. - Valid original U.S. Resident Alien Card (Green card) or a valid U.S. visa including the I-94 online registration or valid original EAD card if it serves as advance parole. The Resident Alien Card, visa or EAD must be valid for at least three months after the intended departure from the Schengen area. - If the minor is travelling with only one parent, notarized consent of the other parent or guardian, and a signed copy of their passport or other photo ID. In case a person has sole custody or guardianship of the minor, proof of this should be submitted. - If the minor travels alone (without parents), notarized consent, from both parents or legal guardians of the minor; as well as signed copies of the passports or other photo ID of the parents or legal guardians. - All minors must be accompanied by both parents or legal guardians and sign the application form in front of a VFS officer. Except in cases where, the child is traveling with one parent to visit the other parent, who is residing in Iceland.
- Passport Copy - All applications must contain a full colour photocopy of the valid passport - all pages of the passport are required. - If there are any valid visas for Schengen or USA/UK/Canada/Australia (issued in last three years) in the old/cancelled passport then a colour photocopy of the visa pages and passport data pages are required.

General Information:
- All documents should be provided in letter size.
- Please submit only photocopies of all documents, as we do not guarantee the return of any original documents but do carry original documents at the time of submission. The Embassy reserves the right to request the original of any document provided at any point during visa processing.
- English translations must accompany the documents not originally in English.
- The applicants should allow for a processing time of minimum 15 days, excluding the VFS handling time back and forth to the Iceland Embassy.

Photo Specifications
Please provide one recent (not older than 6 months) color photograph of yourself, meeting the following requirements:
- Taken against a plain light (white or off-white) background so that features are distinguishable and contrast against the background
- Clear quality and with the face in focus
- Full face: non-smiling, no sunglasses, no hat/cap or any head covering, unless the applicant wears such items because of his/her religious belief or ethnic background
- Printed on normal photographic paper (camera print)

If the photographs presented do not meet these requirements (see examples here), then the visa application will be considered incomplete and applicant will be asked to take new photographs in the photo booth in the visa application center.
Note: For Mail in applications photo needs to be in high resolution at 300 DPI and the dimension is 580 x 446.

Processing Time
NOTE: Visas cannot be issued on the same day. Expedited visa processing is not applicable. The normal processing time of a Schengen Visa to Iceland is 15 days from when the Embassy receives your application from VFS.
It is recommended that you apply 180 days prior to your planned departure.
Missing supporting documents may cause a further delay in processing your application.
In cases of countries with a visa facilitation agreement with the EU this time period is 10 days.
Furthermore applicants need to consider that VFS/Mission’s closures and holidays (see Public Holidays/Closures) may extend the visa application processing time.
Applicants submitting their visa application in our satellite center in New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Houston TX, need to calculate 2 extra days to their minimum processing time as their visa application will first be dispatched to the Embassy of Iceland.
The Mission may always request for additional information/documents or invite applicants for an interview during the visa application process and this may cause delays in the visa process, which applicants accept responsibility for.
