All About Visas

Please note that the following essentials must be met by all applicants submitting their applications for visa.

  • Passport should have been issued within the previous 10 years.
  • Passport should have at least two face to face blank pages.
  • Passport should have at least three months validity from the date of arrival back in India
  • Consulate General of Italy in Kolkata will not accept passports with any written observations concerning Passport number; Surname; Given Name; Nationality; Sex; Date of Birth; Place of Birth; Place of Issue; Date of Issue; Date of Expiry. Only passports with no observations can be presented. Passports must be machine readable. Handwritten passports cannot be accepted
  • Applications are only accepted within 3 months of the requested date of arrival
  • Relevant Forms & Photograph: Fully completed application form appropriate to the type of visa and supplementary form requested with two original passport-size photographs [NB: digital photographs not acceptable]
  • Application will be accepted only until 7 working days (excluding VFS handling time) before the date of travel.

Travel agents/Representative seeking an appointment

Kindly note that travel agents with 15 applications or more need to book an appointment in advance either by mail or in person one day prior to the date of application. We will only entertain a request for a maximum of 15 applicants in one email. Kindly email separately in case a group comprises for more than 15 applicants. The email needs to sent to [email protected]. Please give details below in the mail.

VFS will aim to send you a response to your request as soon as possible. However, please note you may not receive an immediate response if there is a high volume of requests. You will be allocated the first available appointment. Please mention the name of the travel agent/representative who will come to the VFS Italy visa application centre to submit the application.

Kindly ensure that travel agent/representative carries a valid ID proof along with him.

It is not possible for appointment details to be changed once made or for another person to attend the visa application centre. You must make one request for an appointment only (multiple requests are likely to result in not receiving an appointment).

Please note:
You will not be allowed to enter the application centre under the following conditions:

  • If the number of applicants are more as compared to the ones advised at the time of appointment.
  • If there is any difference between the information provided by the Individual/travel agents/representative at the time of making an appointment and the time of attending the visa application centre.

In case of an incentive group , kindly send below mentioned details in a hard copy or mail to the Consulate of Italy in Kolkata prior to approaching VFS. An approval from the Consulate for incentive groups is mandatory.

Delay of delivery of passport due to covid-19 pandemic

The visa application will take at least 10 working days to reach Italy Consulate in Kolkata, India and the processed visa application will take additional 15 working days to return back from the Italy Consulate in Kolkata to Katmandu, Nepal. The days mentioned do not include the processing days of your Visa Application at Consular General Office in Kolkata, India. The delay is due to lesser flights operating between the two countries.

Also, applications accepted on Friday will be forwarded to Italy Consulate in Kolkata, India on the same day.

Visa applicants are advised to note that starting from 15 June 2017 travel medical insurances issued by Indian insurance companies other than the ones listed above will not be accepted for Schengen visa procedure.
However, visa applicants may seek to obtain insurance from Italy only where claims against the insurance company would be recoverable in a Schengen State.

Short Stay visa entitles an applicant, who does not hold a residence permit, to stay in Italy for an uninterrupted period or a total of successive periods of stays that does not exceed 90 days in every six months since the date of first entry. Italy is one of the 25 European countries forming the Schengen Area which have no border controls between them.

In case of transit visas, the duration is authorized in accordance with the period of stay required for the transit.

After scrutinizing the visa application by Embassy, your application may have the following

  • Visa applied for is granted.
  • Further documentation is requested.
  • Applicant is requested to appear for a personal interview.
  • The application is rejected.

Short stay visa applications cannot be submitted more than 180 days in advance before the proposed date of travel.
However, they must be submitted at least 15 calendar days prior to the proposed date of travel. VFS Global is the outsourcing office responsible for the reception and release of passports for short stay visa applications.

  • Overview

    A Schengen short stay visa entitles the holder to visit the Schengen countries for Tourism, visiting friends / family or other non-business related purposes up to 90 days within a 180 day period from date of first entry. The stay may be either continuous or several visits depending upon whether the visa is single or multiple entry.

    make sure that the frames do not cover any part of your eyes.

    - are not permitted except for religious reasons, but your facial features from bottom of chin to top of forehead and both edges of your face must be clearly shown.

    Your photographs must:

    - show you alone (no chair backs, toys or other people visible), looking at the camera with a neutral expression and your mouth closed.

    This visa allows business people to make a short business visit to Schengen during your visa validity period. Business activities may include a conference, negotiation or exploratory business visit up to 90 days within a 180 day period from date of first entry. The stay may be either continuous or several visits depending upon whether the visa is single or multiple entry.

Religious

  • Overview

    This visa provides for the temporary stay of persons who will be full-time religious workers in Schengen. Religious work is work of a religious nature for which the applicant has had relevant religious training. The religious work proposed must directly serve an organization’s religious objectives. It would usually be religious work involved in:

    • Providing spiritual leadership
    • Conducting worship
    • Teaching or guidance in religion
    • Ministering, pastoral care or proselytizing
    • Other high level specialist work in relation to the above
