Short- Term Visa (Maximum stay of 90 days)
If you are planning a short visit to Italy for up to 90 days or less and you do not have the nationality of one of the countries of the European Economic Area (EEA), you may need to apply for a Schengen visa. Italy is one of the 26 European countries forming the Schengen Area which have no border controls between them. These countries also issue a common visa, the Schengen visa for a stay of up to 90 days during a period of 6 months from the date of the first entry into the territory of the Schengen States. Please note that the following essentials must be met by all applicants submitting their applications for visa.
- Passport should have at least two blank pages.
- Passport should be valid for at least 3 months from the date on which the applicant intends to leave the SCHENGEN territory, or, in the case of multiple journeys the date on which the applicant intends to leave it for the last time.
- Applications are only accepted within 3 months of the requested date of arrival
- Relevant Forms & Photograph
- Application will be accepted only until 15 days (excluding VFS handling time) before the date of travel.
- Applicants applying for Schengen Visa have to complete the visa application form and affix recent photograph.

Tourism

Overview
This visa is solely for the purpose of leisure travel including vacationing, cruising, sightseeing, visit to friends and/or relatives and other recreational activities. If during any portion of the visit to Italy, the applicant intends to engage in business, or official duties he/she must refer to other relevant visa sections. Once received by the Visa Application Centre, applications will be sent to the Embassy of Italy in Cairo the next working day; afterwards, the applicant might be contacted directly by the Embassy for a personal interview (if applicable) or for any further inquiries of the Embassy of Italy in Cairo. Once the assessment is completed by the Embassy of Italy, the decision together with the passport & the other relevant documents will be available for collection in the Visa Application Centre.

- It should be of high quality with no ink marks and creases.
- The photograph must show you looking directly at the camera.
- It should be 4 cm X 5 cm.
- It should show your skin tone naturally.
- It should have appropriate brightness and contrast.
- The photograph should be a recent one not more than 6 months old.
- Photograph can be taken with headgear, The main characteristics of the face must be apparent from the photograph. Chin, nose, eyes and eyebrows must not be covered; the forehead should be uncovered to the extent that the shape of the face is apparent.
- It should be without hat/cap.
- It should be without the applicant's hair tucked behind his/her ears.
- The photograph must show facing square on to the camera, not looking over the shoulder or tilted, and showing both edges of the face clearly.
- It should be taken with uniform lighting and not show shadows or flash reflections on the face and no red eye
- If wearing glasses the photograph must show the eyes clearly with no flash reflection off the glasses and no tinted lenses (if possible, avoid heavy frames – lighter framed glasses to be worn). Make sure the frame does not cover any part of the eye.
- The photograph must show alone (no chair backs, toys or other people visible) looking at the camera with a neutral expression and the mouth closed.
- The photograph should not have any staple marks.
- Scanned & color photocopies would not be accepted.

Processing Time
The processing time for assessment of a Schengen visa at the Embassy of Italy varies according to the nationality of the applicant and the period of the year in which the application is given.
Currently, visa processing time is around 15 calendar days in our office of Cairo, and around 20 calendar days in our office of Alexandria for all third country nationals.
Applicant’s lack of Travel plan will not fall on Embassy priority to process your visa. It is advisable to plan your travel well in advance to avoid any inconvenience. -

LONG TERM “D” VISA Type
A long-term entry visa (for more than 90 days) is called a “National Visa” NV and grants access for a long-term stay in the State that issued it. It allows free circulation for a period of no more than 90 days per half-year in the territory of other Member States.

- Copy of the passport page containing holder’s data and those mentioning an extension of validity.
- Copies of any previous and current visa (if applicable).
Letter from the Congregation/Religious Institution in Egypt confirming the religious status, the completion of final vows and/or clearly explaining the purpose of the visit
- Verbal note of the Mission of the Holy See in Cairo explaining the purpose of the visit (if applicable)
- Sponsorship letter from the hosting Congregation in Italy, attested by the Secretary of State – Vatican (if applicable) , or sponsorship letter of Religious Institution in Italy with details concerning the religious nature of the event, or of the activities representing the purpose of the visit.
- Proof of economic means of support
or Declaration of assumption of responsibility by the religious organization - Travel assistance policy of a duration equal to that requested for visa, valid for all the countries of the Schengen space, that covers the medical expenses and of
repatriation in case of accident or disease (minimum cover: € 30.000).

Note: The processing time for assessment of a “tirocinio/formazione” stay visa at the Embassy of Italy in Cairo, varies according to the nationality of the applicant and the period of the year in which the application is given.

Proof of means of support in Italy of not less than 350.57 Euro for each month of the academic year. This availability can be proven through Bank Statement of applicant or family. - Scholarship from Italian Government:

Where the amount of the scholarship does not satisfy the minimum established by law the availability can be proven through Bank Statement of applicant or family -
Non University courses :
a) Adequate financial guarantees covering the expenses for the duration of stay- b) adequate means for repatriation OR return flight ticket or booking (for courses for period up to 90 days)

- Certificate of family composition ("Stato di famiglia") issued by the competent Egyptian Authority duly translated into Italian and legalized by the Consular office of the Embassy of Italy in Cairo.

- If the husband/wife residing in Italy had a previous divorce, sentence/judgment of divorce duly translated into Italian and legalized by the Consular Office of the Embassy of Italy in Cairo.

Overview
Family reunion visas are visas intended to reunite family members specifically husbands/wives, children and parents economically dependent on the sponsors. It is a long term (type D) period visa. The Family reunion visas must be authorized through the specified authorization ("NULLA OSTA") issued by the competent Italian Authorization in which are listed the family members who may apply for the visa.
Please be informed that your Nulla Osta is valid for 6 months from the date of issue. Your application will be accepted only with a valid Nulla Osta.

IMPORTANT: In order to obtain a reunification visa for the parents, it is necessary to prove and adequately document (e.g. with family status certificates, family status certificates duly translated and legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) that:
- the elderly parents do not have any other son/daughter residing in the country of origin
Once in Italy, they must register themselves with the local Anagrafe (Registry Office) and apply for a residence card at the relevant Questura within 8 working days from their arrival.

Overview
The family members who have the right to reunification are exclusively those indicated in the art. 2 of Legislative Decree 30/20007:
- the spouse;
- the partner who has contracted a registered partnership with the EU citizen on the basis of the legislation of a Member State, if the legislation of the Member State host equates such registered partnership to marriage and in compliance with the established conditions by the relevant legislation of the host Member State;
- direct descendants under the age of 21 or dependents and those of the spouse or partner as per letter b);
- direct ascendants and those of the spouse or partner referred to in letter b, if financially dependent.
Adoptees/adopters are also considered as equivalent to the direct descendant/direct ascendant, as well as minors subjected to permanent guardianship/custody pursuant to Law. 184/83.

- In cases where financial dependency assessment is envisaged: demonstration of economic remittances by the Italian/EU citizen. The financial support must be structural and continuative in its nature (there is no minimum duration) and must allow the beneficiary, in consideration of his/her financial and social conditions in the State of origin or provenance, to provide for his/her essential needs (COM(2009)313 paragraph 2.1.4)
