Visa Types
Select the visa type that is right for you to see important information on visa fees, documents required, forms, photo specifications and processing times.
VISITOR VISA
If you wish to visit Norway for a short period of time, you must obtain a visa prior to entry if you come from a country with a visa requirement for entering Norway as a general rule.
Applicants are required to provide passport and copies of both the bio and signature pages.
It is advisable to lodge the application well in advance and no later than 15 days before the intended visit. Please note that applications can be lodged no more than six months before the start of the intended visit (nine months for seafarers).
A visa is only intended to allow a foreign national to visit Norway and/or the other Schengen countries for a limited period of time (maximum of 90 days). If you wish to reside in Norway for an extended period of time (more than 90 days), you need to apply for a long term visa (Student and Work Permit and Family reunification).
When you apply for a visa, the application will be sent to the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in Guangzhou for processing. All cases are considered individually to see if the conditions for a visa are fulfilled. Where to hand in your application
The Royal Norwegian Consulate General in Guangzhou handles applications from applicants residing in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Hainan.
Applicants in Guangzhou jurisdiction could also apply for Schengen visa to Sweden. Applications for Swedish residence, work and study permits will be administered by the foreign missions of Sweden in Beijing or Shanghai. Applicants need to contact the foreign missions of Sweden in Beijing or Shanghai for information.
Applicants who are not nationals of China must document that they are legally in the country where they apply from and must provide justification for lodging the application to the Norwegian Consulate General in Guangzhou.
Applications may be submitted at VFS in Guangzhou or Fuzhou.
Please make sure to apply your Schengen visa from the country of your main destination.
One Destination
If you would like to visit one Schengen country, apply for your Schengen visa at the Embassy or Consulate of that country. Apply your Schengen visa from Norway if Norway is your only destination.
Many Destinations
If you would like to visit several Schengen countries, apply for your visa at the Embassy or Consulate of the country of your main destination in terms of length of stay or the purpose of stay.
If you intend to visit several Schengen countries, but do not have a main destination (i.e. you intend to spend an equal amount of days in each country), you should apply at the Embassy or Consulate of the Schengen country which is your first port of entry.
Travel medical insurance
When applying for a visa, your Travel medical insurance must cover the days of your intended stay in the Schengen area. Important: If you after issuance of the visa decide to delay your entry to the Schengen area, you are yourself responsible to buy/hold a valid insurance that covers the actual stay in the Schengen area. Failure to hold an insurance that covers the actual stay may lead to problems at the airport or entering the Schengen area.
- It is valid throughout Schengen territory.
- It is valid during the entire period that you will be in Schengen territory.
- The coverage is at least EURO 30.000.
- The coverage includes repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical care and/or emergency treatment in a hospital and assistance in case of death.
We will only accept machine-written insurance policies.

Supporting documents
According to Visa Code Art 14 the applicant shall present several documents with the application in order for the competent consulate to verify the fulfilment of the conditions for granting a visa. Case processing time: The time limits for examining applications provided for in Article 23(1) and (2):
According to Visa Code Art 23 1st paragraph, the normal processing time for a visa application is 15 days. However, according to Visa Code Art 23 2nd paragraph, that period may be extended up to a maximum of 45 calendar days in individual cases, notably when further scrutiny of the application is needed.
Decision
As soon as a decision has been made by the Consulate General, the Consulate General will send the passport with the decision in a sealed envelope to the VFS center the applicant applied. VFS will then notify the applicant through email, or SMS (if applicable).
If rejected: Please note that a negative decisions on applications must be notified to the applicant, the decisions must state the reasons on which they are based. In cases where an application is rejected, the applicant will receive a letter stating the reason for the rejection.
Please note that all applicants whose applications are refused have a right to appeal. If the Embassy rejects an application, it is stated in the rejection letter how and where you should send the appeal. Please note that if you appeal you must appeal within three weeks from the date on which notification of the administrative decision has reached the party concerned or from the date on which the applicant has or should have obtained knowledge of the decision.
Duration of stay, visa validity and right of entry
Duration of stay
Your stay in the Schengen area cannot exceed the number of days in the “duration of stay” field in the visa sticker.
Period of validity
From May 14, 2012 we will add 15 days to the validity of the visa to allow you some flexibility regarding when to enter and exit the Schengen area. This means that the period of time between “from...until...” in the visa sticker will be 15 days longer than the number of days printed in the “duration of stay” field.
Right of entry
The possession of a visa does not give you an automatic right of entry to a Schengen country. When you cross the border into the Schengen area, you will have to present:
- your passport with the visa sticker
- proof that you have enough money to support yourself during your stay (e.g. cash or a credit card). If you have a sponsorship form, you should also bring a copy of this with you.
- documentation showing the purpose of your visit, such as an invitation, hotel reservation, etc.
- a return or round trip ticket if you are visiting the Schengen area for tourist purposes or private reasons
Consultation in applications for Schengen visa
When citizens of certain countries apply for a Schengen visa, they are subject to prior consultation with other Schengen countries. This may take 8 days, but in most cases it will still be within the normal 15 days of processing time.
The table attached lists the third countries whose nationals or specific categories of such third country nationals who are subject to prior consultation.
Business Visa

Overview

The visa fee must be paid when you submit your application.Application fees applicable as of 2 February 2020:
Short-stay Visa:

(Visa for children between 6 and 12 years: 40 EUR
The fee is waived for visa applicants in any of the following categories:
- Children under 6 years
- School pupils, students, post-graduate students and accompanying teachers who undertake trips for the purpose of study or educational training
- Researchers from third countries travelling for the purpose of carrying out scientific research, as per specific rules.

The following are exempt from this fee:
- Children below the age of 18 years.
- Application from foreign citizens included in the regulations for residence permit in the EEA Agreement or the EFTA Convention, according to the Immigration Regulation §§174-189a, or renewal of such permit.
- Application for refuge or renewal of permit for foreign citizen that has been granted refuge, or is protected according to the Immigration Act §15, 1.

China - VFS Service fee is EUR 6.5/ RMB 51 per person (non-refundable) with effective from 1st Jan 2024, inclusive of Service Taxes.
Resubmission Courier Charge (mandatory for the approved short-term cases) – EUR4.55 / RMB 35 per person (inclusive of Service Taxes). Please note this fee is not applicable for Visa Application Centre in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Prepare all the necessary documents listed below before you deliver the application, otherwise the application might be refused by the Royal Norwegian Consulate in Guangzhou. All documents must be presented in original. For documents need to be translated into English, only machine-printing translation copies are accepted. Hand-written translation copies are not accepted. All documents submitted should be A4 format.
According to the Royal Norwegian Consulate, applicant needs to provide the Notary Certificate issued by the Provincial/Municipal Notary Office from their Hukou Area and legalized by the Provincial &Municipal FAO. Anyone who provides a Notary Certificate issued by the Notary Office outside their Hukou Area (province/city) will not be accepted by the Consulate.
Checklists can be printed and attached to visa application documents.
Note: The Consulate reserves the right to request additional information/documentation and, if deemed necessary, to interview the applicant.
A visa issued by a Schengen country permits free movement within the Schengen area, unless otherwise stated on the visa sticker. However, please note that according to article 47 (i) of the Visa Code mere possession of a visa does not confer an automatic right to entry and that the holders of visa are requested to present proof that they fulfill the entry conditions at the external border, as provided for in Article 5 of the Schengen Borders Code.

Competent Embassy or Consulate General:
The Embassy or Consulate General of the country of your main destination is the competent authority to deal with the application. If the main destination cannot be determined, the application should be made to the Embassy or Consulate General of the country which the longest visit shall be. If the visits in different Schengen countries are of equal length, the first destination shall be the determining factor.
If you plan to visit more than one Schengen country in the course of one trip, or if you plan several separate trips within a period of two months, you must submit your application to the embassy or consulate of the Member State that is your main destination based on the length of your stay, or the purpose of stay.
If no main destination can be determined, the Member State whose external border the applicant intends to cross first in order to enter the territory of the Member States.

Photo Specifications
All photos must meet the requirements listed below. If these requirements have not been met, the applicant will have to deliver a new photo that meets the requirements. The photo requirements are the same for children as for adults.
The Photo shall:
- be in sharp focus, clear and with good contrasts
- be printed on quality photo paper with high solution
- be in colours with a white background
- be 40mm in width x 50mm in height
- maximum 6 months old, resemble the applicant
- full-face, facing the camera directly, eyes looking straight at the camera
- show the whole head and the top of the shoulders. The face shall occupy 70-80 % of the picture
- show open eyes that are clearly visible. Hair shall not cover the eyes
Regarding glasses:
- the glasses cannot be coloured
- the rim must not cover any part of the eyes
- there cannot be reflection in the glasses
Glasses are allowed as long as the eyes are clearly visible.
Regarding head-dress:
- Chin, forehead and both cheeks shall all be clearly visible
- Shadows in the face due to the head-dress are not allowed
Religious head-dresses are allowed provided that all details of the face are clearly shown.

The processing time for applications is normally up to 15 calendar days after the Consulate has received the application. The decision period may be extended to 45 days when further consideration is needed.

ADS Group Tourist Visa:
ADS visas are issued to members of tourist groups of at least 5 persons. The maximum duration of stay is 30 days.

All photos must meet the requirements listed below. If these requirements have not been met, the applicant will have to deliver a new photo that meets the requirements. The photo requirements are the same for children as for adults.
The Photo shall:
- be in sharp focus, clear and with good contrasts
- be printed on quality photo paper with high solution
- be in colours with a white background
- be 40mm in width x 50mm in height
- maximum 6 months old, resemble the applicant
- full-face, facing the camera directly, eyes looking straight at the camera
- show the whole head and the top of the shoulders. The face shall occupy 70-80 % of the picture
- show open eyes that are clearly visible. Hair shall not cover the eyes
Regarding glasses:
- the glasses cannot be coloured
- the rim must not cover any part of the eyes
- there cannot be reflection in the glasses
Glasses are allowed as long as the eyes are clearly visible.

- Chin, forehead and both cheeks shall all be clearly visible

Overview
If you intend to participate in a cultural or sport event in Norway/Schengen for less than 90 days, you are advised to apply for a visitor visa. Maximum period of stay is 90 days. Please note you will have to provide evidence that he/she falls under this category. Please note that applicants applying for a visa for cultural and sports are required to provide documents according to this category.
It is advisable to lodge the application well in advance and no later than 15 days before the intended visit. Please note that applications can be lodged no more than six months before the start of the intended visit (nine months for seafarers).
When you apply for a visa, the application will be sent to the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in Guangzhou for processing. All cases are considered individually to see if the conditions for a visa are fulfilled. The application must be accompanied by an explanation of why two or more entries are required. The explanation should be presented both in the letter from the employer and in the invitation letter from the reference.

A multiple entry visa with a validity of up to one year may in certain cases be granted by the Consulate . For the Consulate to grant such a multiple entry visa all the general requirements for a regular Schengen visa must be fulfilled (valid passport, flight booking, documentation of sufficient funds, travel medical insurance etc.).
- Document previous frequent trips to Norway
- Have previously complied with the visa regulations by leaving the Schengen area within the expiry of the visa
- Document a genuine future need for multiple entries to Norway during a one year period
- Bona fide business partners of Norwegian companies that frequently visit Norway.
- Spouses, co-habitants and children of Norwegian citizens living in China.
- Spouses, co-habitants and children of persons with a valid work/- residence permit in Norway
- Foreign officials who are to attend meetings in Norway (official meetings).
- Persons who are to participate in scientific, cultural or sports-related official programs.

The requirement in these cases is that the applicant submits a travel medical insurance valid for the first trip, and make sure to hold a valid travel medical insurance also for the subsequent visits. An applicant who has been granted a multiple entry visa with a validity of up to 12 months and has complied with the visa regulations, may then apply for a multiple entry visa for two or three years, provided that the need for such a visa is documented. Seasonal Workers

Overview
Seasonal work is work that can only be carried out during limited parts of the year due to climate variations, fluctuations in the availability of raw materials or other circumstances. Forestry, agriculture, the fish processing industry, plant nurseries and the restaurant and tourism industries are typical seasonal industries. Odd jobs such as carpentry, painting and other maintenance and restoration work are not considered seasonal work. If you are to replace an employee in connection with holidays, this must be clearly stated in your application. There is no requirement as to when during the year holidays can be taken.

The purpose of the au pair scheme is cultural exchange. As au pairs, young people can improve their language skills and knowledge of Norway and Norwegian society by living with a Norwegian family. In return, the au pair performs services such as light housework and child care for the host family.

Guidelines to the applicant regarding the document list
You must be sure that your application is properly filled in before it is sent to the UDI in Norway for processing.

When you apply for family immigration you and the staff at Visa Application Centre must fill in a separate list of which documents that you have to send to the UDI with your applications. It is very important that you fill all relevant sections and sign the list. You have to this even if you have applied online with Application Portal.

If you do not submit all relevant documents within a week, you may get a rejection
You should submit all relevant documents within a week after you have applied. After a week the Foreign Service mission / police will send over the case to the UDI and you may get a rejection if you have not submitted all relevant documentation.
If you do not have the required documentation, you must write a statement
If it is not possible to provide the required documentations you or your sponsor must enclose a statement that explains why these documents are not available. Your application may be rejected on the basis of incomplete information or documentation.
Original documents and translation
You must show original documents when you apply
You must show your passport and all documents in their original form at the Foreign Service Mission or the police
Bring your own certified and translated copies
When the police or Foreign Service mission sends your application to the UDI, you only have to submit copies of the original documents. Bring your own copies when you submit the application.
Documents in other languages than Norwegian, English, French, German and Spanish must be translated by an authorized translator to Norwegian or English, and it must be clearly stated who has performed the translation and when. All the translated pages must be stamped by the translator.
Persons from countries with documents that need an Apostille stamp (Mongolia)
Documents from countries that have ratified the Hague Convention, including Norway (see list under) must have an apostille stamp before you can submit the documents to us. Apostille means that, the original document is issued by competent authorities from a signatory state of the Hague Convention

Persons from countries with documents that need legalization (China)
Documents from countries that are not members of the Hague Convention must be legalized by the foreign authority of the country where the document has been issued.
Legalization means that the foreign authority in the issuing country by endorsement, has confirmed that the document is signed / issued by the competent authority.
If you are planning to apply for a residence permit, you need to make sure that some of the required documents have been legalized. The documents that currently are required to be legalized are birth certificate, marriage certificate and single certificate. Which documents you need to legalise depends on the type of residence permit you are applying for. Please look at the check list relevant for your situation to see which documents you need to legalise.
Applicants going to Norway to get married are required to provide a single certificate with double legalization.
Applicants applying for 9 months parental visit (short-term stay to visit children in the realm) only need to provide a notarized birth certificate, no legalization. The birth certificate/relationship certificate documenting the relationship between the parents and the children still need to be notarized and legalized.
The documents must first be notarized at a Notarius Publicus office, then legalized at the Consular Section at Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs or at the relevant Foreign Affairs Office. Please be informed that in order for documents to valid in Norway they also need to be legalized at a Norwegian Embassy or Consulate General.

Interview of the applicant
There is also a questionnaire that shall be filled in, regarding the applicants relationship with the sponsor. In some cases the Foreign Service mission/ the police will conduct an interview with the applicant/ sponsor.

Parental Visit

Overview
This permit entitles you as a parent to visit your children living in Norway for up to nine months. The permit does not entitle you to work in Norway, and you must return to your home country when the residence permit expires. You can travel into and out of Norway for as long as the permit is valid. The permit cannot be renewed, but you may be granted a new nine-month permit when you have stayed outside Norway for at least one year. If you have visited Norway in the meantime (for example on a visa), the one-year period is extended by a period equal to the duration of the visit.

Fiancé Permit

Overview
If you are planning to get married in Norway, you can apply for a residence permit to enter into marriage (fiancé permit). The purpose of this permit is to enable you to get married in Norway. The permit is valid for six months. You must live with your fiancé in Norway during this period. If you do not get married in the course of six months, you must leave Norway. After you have married, you must apply for family immigration with your spouse to be able to stay in Norway. You must apply for family immigration prior to the expiry of your fiancé permit, and you can stay in Norway while your application is being processed.

The following are exempt from this fee:
- Children below the age of 18 years.
- Application from foreign citizens included in the regulations for residence permit in the EEA Agreement or the EFTA Convention, according to the Immigration Regulation §§174-189a, or renewal of such permit.
- Application for refuge or renewal of permit for foreign citizen that has been granted refuge, or is protected according to the Immigration Act §15, 1.
- There is no fee for processing appeals.
Logistic Fees
China - VFS Service fee is EUR 6.5/ RMB 51 per person (non-refundable) with effective from 1st Jan 2024, inclusive of Service Taxes.
Resubmission Courier Charge (mandatory for the approved cases of long-term categories) – EUR4.55 / RMB 35 per person (inclusive of Service Taxes). Please note this fee is not applicable for Visa Application Centre in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
Please note: the logistic fees can be paid in cash, or by mobile payment.

Documents Required
Before you start to prepare your application please read carefully about family reunion here.
All documents must be translated by an authorized/certified translator into English or Norwegian in a separate document. It must be stated on the translation who translated the document and when, and all the translated pages must be stamped.
All documents submitted should be in A4 format.

Note! Please be informed that in addition to the documents listed in the checklist, Chinese applicants also need to enclose a copy of hukou (all information pages) with English translation on a separate paper.

Photo Specifications
All photos must meet the requirements listed below. If these requirements have not been met, the applicant will have to deliver a new photo that meets the requirements. The photo requirements are the same for children as for adults.
The Photo shall:
- be in sharp focus, clear and with good contrasts
- be printed on quality photo paper with high solution
- be in colours with a white background
- be 40mm in width x 50mm in height
- maximum 6 months old, resemble the applicant
- full-face, facing the camera directly, eyes looking straight at the camera
- show the whole head and the top of the shoulders. The face shall occupy 70-80 % of the picture
- show open eyes that are clearly visible. Hair shall not cover the eyes
Regarding glasses:
- the glasses cannot be coloured
- the rim must not cover any part of the eyes
- there cannot be reflection in the glasses
Glasses are allowed as long as the eyes are clearly visible.
Regarding head-dress:
- Chin, forehead and both cheeks shall all be clearly visible
- Shadows in the face due to the head-dress are not allowed
Religious head-dresses are allowed provided that all details of the face are clearly shown.

Visa Fees
Please Note:
Applicants who register their applications online using www.udi.no must pay the application fee with a credit/debit card (MasterCard or Visa card).Please be informed that all the fees are non-refundable.
The visa fee must be paid when you submit your application.Application fees applicable as of 2 February 2020:
Short-stay Visa:
Schengen visa (maximum 90 days): 80 EUR
(Visa for children between 6 and 12 years: 40 EUR
The fee is waived for visa applicants in any of the following categories:
- Children under 6 years
- School pupils, students, post-graduate students and accompanying teachers who undertake trips for the purpose of study or educational training
- Researchers from third countries travelling for the purpose of carrying out scientific research, as per specific rules.
