Overview

A Schengen visa has to be obtained from the Embassy of the country with the MAIN PURPOSE OF TRAVEL, please check your travel plans before applying at the Norway Visa Application Centre in Cairo. If you intend to travel to multiple Schengen countries, please apply at the Embassy of the country where you will be staying for the maximum number of days. If the number of days to be spent in multiple countries is the same, you must apply to the Embassy of the Country which will be your first point of entry.

If you plan to apply for a Schengen visa at the Norway Visa Application Centre, your main destination and the maximum period of stay in the Schengen area must be in Norway. Please provide proof to support this information.

Please note a short-term period visa (type "C") will be for a Maximum length of stay of 90 days only.

In case of groups: We strongly suggest that groups contact VFS before they are to submit their applications at VFS’s office in order to simplify the application process.

Notice: On Monday 13th January 2025 a digital sponsorship and invitation form was made available to individuals, companies, and organisations wishing to sponsor visa applicants to Norway.

The sponsor can now verify their identity by using their Norwegian electronic ID to access ID-porten for individuals or Ansattporten for representatives of companies and organisations. However, to represent a business and act as a sponsor in visa cases, the user needs to have been given permission in Altinn by the business administrator.

The paper version of the sponsorship form will continue to be available alongside the new digital version.

According to the Schengen-regulations, the Visa Code article 13, applicants shall give their biometric identifiers when applying for a Schengen-visa.

If the applicant has applied for a Schengen-visa within the last 59 months, the Norwegian Embassy shall copy his biometric identifiers from the common Schengen VIS-database.

In some cases, the Norwegian Embassy can have problems when copying the biometric identifiers. If the applicant does not manage to copy, the embassy must ask him to come back to VFS to give his biometric identifiers. Therefore, the applicant has the choice if he wants to give his biometric identifiers again or not.

Everyone who applies for a visa or a residence permit must hand in a photo with their application. The photo must meet certain requirement, so that you are easily recognised.

Photo requirements

• The photo must show the whole head (the face must take up 70-80 per cent of the photo) and the top of your shoulders.
• Eyes must be open and clearly visible with no hair across the eyes.
• Wearing glasses is permitted. The lenses must not be tinted, the frame must not cover parts of your eyes and there must be no reflection in the lenses.
• Religious headgear is permitted if your chin, forehead and both cheeks are clearly visible. The headgear must not cast a shadow on the face.

  • in sharp focus, clear and with good contrast
  • printed on high-quality photo paper at a high resolution
  • taken directly from the front, against a light background
  • in colour
  • 35–40 mm wide
  • maximum six months old, and look like you

Overview

Persons who need a visa to visit Norway can in some cases be issued an entry visa, so that they can travel to Norway before they apply or while they are waiting for an answer for their residence permit.

Who can apply for a D-visa?

The D-visa is intended for applicants who:

• Are applying for a residence permit through family immigration, as a student, or as a skilled worker and wish to travel to Norway to submit their application in person to the police.
• Have already applied for a residence permit from abroad (family immigration or study permit) and wish to travel to Norway before receiving a decision on their application.
• Have received a job offer in Norway, and whose employer has obtained confirmation from the police that they may start working before the residence permit application is processed.
• Hold a valid residence permit in Norway but are abroad without their residence card (e.g., lost or stolen).
• Hold a residence permit that has expired while abroad but have applied to renew their permit or obtain permanent residence.
• Will be working at an Embassy or Consulate in Norway, or a family member of a diplomat moving to Norway.
• The new electronic form will be implemented on 13 January 2026. From this date, all applicants must use the D-visa form for new applications, found on the UDI's application portal. The previous practice of using the C-visa form and manually indicating a D-visa, or the printed application form for manual completion, will no longer apply.

Biometric Requirements

In accordance with the Immigration Regulations, biometric data in the form of a facial photograph and fingerprints must be collected and stored for all foreign nationals applying for an entry visa.

Children under six years of age are exempt from fingerprint collection

When an applicant submits an entry visa application together with a residence permit application, it is sufficient to collect the facial photograph and fingerprints only once

You can apply for this kind of visa if you belong to one of the following groups

• spouses of Norwegian citizens who are living in Norway or plan to settle here, and their joint children
• spouses of Nordic nationals who have lived in Norway for the past three years, and their joint children
• spouses of foreign nationals with a permanent residence permit (settlement permit) and their joint children
• spouses of foreign nationals with a residence permit as skilled workers with an employer in Norway and their joint children
• spouses of foreign nationals who have an individual permit to work in a group, and their joint children

Requirements for entry visas

To be granted an entry visa, it must be probable that your application for family immigration will be granted. Among other things, this means that you must meet all the requirements for a family immigration permit and you must have submitted all the documents on the checklist.

How to apply for an entry visa

1. Submit an application for a visitor's visa, but write in the application that you wish to be granted an entry visa (D visa).
2. If you haven't already submitted your application for family immigration, you must now submit all the documents on the relevant checklist for family immigration.
3. D-visa - Norway in Jordan
4. Have applied: Family immigration - UDI
5. The embassy will consider your application for an entry visa. If your application is rejected, you can submit a written appeal to the embassy. The embassy will consider your application again. If they do not grant it, they will send it to the UDI. The UDI will consider the application again, and either reject it or grant it.

For Re-entry Visas related to expired or lost residence cards, Diplomats (D category) must follow the standard application process. They are required to visit the UDI website, complete the online application form, then visit VFS with the printed application form and the relevant checklist based on the visa type they are applying for.

You have to submit Visa Application Form from the Application Portal, the three last pay slips and the last tax report of the reference/sponsor, and a statement from the reference/sponsor describing your relationship. In addition, if you have not already submitted your application for family immigration, you must submit all the documents on the relevant checklist for family immigration. Please do not submit the documents required for a C-visa application when applying for a D-visa.

Overview

If you wish to come to Norway to work, you need a residence permit. You must normally have found a job first. What residence permit you should apply for depends on your competence and the type of work you will be doing in Norway.

If you wish to study or go to school in Norway for more than three months, you must apply for a study permit. If you are granted a study permit, you will also be able to work for up to 20 hours a week while you are studying and full-time during holidays.

As an au pair, you can improve your language skills and learn about Norwegian society by living with a Norwegian family. In return, you will provide services such as light housework and/or child care for the host family.

Egyptian and Libyan citizens, and persons who have been legally residing in Egypt or Libya the last 6 months, can apply for a residence permit in Norway. You are required to book an appointment in order to submit your application at a Visa application Centre

Form for Granting Power of Attorney

Overview

Family immigration is also called family reunification or forming a family. Those who apply for family immigration are usually the spouse, cohabitant or child of someone who lives in Norway. Other types of family members who may apply are parents who have children in Norway, those who are going to marry someone in Norway (fiancées/fiancés), foster children and full siblings.

Egyptian citizens and other nationals who have been legally residing in Egypt the last 6 months can apply for a family immigration permit in Norway at the Visa Application Center.
