VISA TYPES
Select the visa type that is right for you to see important information on visa fees, documents required, forms, photo specifications and processing times.
A short-term visa allows you to stay in Norway or other countries in the Schengen area* for up to 90 days over a period of 180 days.
Please note that as of 01.01.2024, citizens of Kosovo with Biometric passport are visa free to Norway/Schengen. Holders of non-biometric passport, still have to apply for a visa.
For nationals of other countries:
Nationals of EU/EEA countries and of countries that have a visa exemption agreement with Norway do not need a visa to visit Norway.
Nationals of all other countries need a visa.
*Austria, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Please Note: There is a service charge levied per application over and above the visa fees.
- Service Fee: Euro 26.50 (Inclusive of VAT)
- Resubmission Fee: Euro 22.50 ( Inclusive of VAT)
- Courier re-submission: The applicant may request to have the passport returned from the embassy while the application is being processed. If the applicant later resubmits the passport for issuance of visa, VFS may request the applicant to pay 22.50 EUR to cover the Resubmission Courier.
Applicants exempted from paying the Visa Fee:
- Children under 6 years old
- School pupils, students, post-graduate students and accompanying teachers who undertake trips for the purpose of study or educational training
- Researchers from third countries travelling for the purpose of carrying out scientific research, as per specific rules
- Applicants related to (spouse, descendant or dependent ascendant of) EEA citizen who are exercising their right to free movement (on production of relevant certificates (birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.)
In certain cases, the fee may be waived or reduced in accordance with national legislation, when this would serve to promote cultural, foreign policy or development policy interests, other areas of vital public interest, or for humanitarian reasons.

Travel Medical Insurance
Travel medical insurance must cover the entire period of intended stay, be valid for all Schengen States and cover any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgency medical attention, emergency hospital treatment or death during the stay. The minimum coverage must be €30 000.

Business

- Name and date of birth and passport details of the invited person
- Purpose, destination and duration of the visit

- Clarification who will cover the travel costs of the invited person
- Name and position of the countersigning officer
- Letter in English from the Kosovo company about the purpose of the trip and the nature of the connection with the Norwegian part

Processing Time
The processing time for applications is normally up to 15 calendar days. In some cases, applications are sent to the Directorate of Immigration (UDI), and the processing time for these may be up to 30 days. In exceptional cases UDI may take up to 60 days to make a decision.
In Kosovo, you will in most cases get the result of your application within 15 calendar days from the date the application is received at the Embassy in Ankara. Please note: that you should account for an additional 4 days for sending the application documents between the VFS application center in Prishtina and Ankara.

Residence Permit
For Norway, all permits that require a stay for longer than 90 days are called residence permits. The grounds for applying a residence permit can be work, family reunion, studies etc.
Please note that if you plan to work in Norway you will, as a main rule, need a residence permit even if the stay is planned to be shorter than 90 days.

Family Immigration

Overview
The purpose of this visa is to join family who live in Norway.

Kindly note that VFS will send the application by courier mail to the Norwegian Embassy in Ankara , which is responsible for the further examination.

Visa Fees
When you apply for a visa or residence permit to Norway, you must pay the visa fee online when registering your application at the Application Portal Norway.
Please note that applicants will also be charged a service fee of: 26.50 EUR and Resubmission Fee of: 22.50 EUR per application, which must be paid in cash when you attend the visa application center. The service fee is liable to change in line with the European Commission exchange rate.
Courier re-submission: The applicant may request to have the passport returned from the embassy while the application is being processed. If the applicant later resubmits the passport for issuance of visa, VFS may request the applicant to pay 22.50 EUR to cover the Resubmission Courier.
The following are exempted from the fee when submitting an application for Family Immigration residence permit:
- Children under 18 years of age
- Close family members of EU/EEA nationals, who apply for a residence card.
Visa fees can only be paid with a credit card through the Application Portal Norway.

Documents Required
For information about the documents required, please visit the website of the Norway Directorate of Immigration (UDI) and go to the website of The Norwegian Embassy in Pristina.
Please be advised that it is a requirement that all documents are submitted in original in the A4 format. Any government issued documents that you provide originals for (birth certificates etc) must be accompanied by a copy. Any documents not in A4 size need to be copied into A4. The copies will have to be of very good quality with no staples, paper clips or glue as they will be scanned by the Embassy.
We stress the importance of submitting all the relevant documents. Missing documents may lead to a rejection or longer processing time. If you for any reason are not able to submit any of the documents, please write a short statement explaining this.
Applicants who are seeking to live with their spouse in Norway must also complete one of the following questionnaires and attach it with their applications:

Photo Specifications
The photo must:
- be in sharp focus, clear and with good contrasts
- be printed on high quality photo paper with high solution
- be in colour
- be 35–40 mm in width
- be maximum 6 months old and resemble the applicant
- be taken with the applicant facing the camera directly, against a light background
- show the whole head and the top of the shoulders. The face must occupy 70–80 % of the picture.
- show open eyes that are clearly visible. Hair must not cover the eyes.
Regarding glasses:
Glasses are allowed as long as the eyes are clearly visible.
- the glasses must not be coloured
- the rim must not cover any part of the eyes
- there must be no reflection in the glasses
Regarding head-dress:
Religious head-dresses are allowed, provided that all details of the face are clearly shown.
- chin, forehead and both cheeks must be clearly visible
- shadows on the face due to the head-dress are not allowed

Note: Please follow these instructions carefully. If the photographs presented do not meet these requirements your application will be considered incomplete. A photo booth for meeting these requirements is available at the visa application centre.

Overview
If you wish to come to Norway to work, you need a residence permit. You must normally have found a job first. What residence permit you should apply for depends on your competence and the type of work you will be doing in Norway.

Visa Fees
When you apply for a visa or residence permit to Norway, you must pay the fee online when registering your application at the Application Portal Norway.
Please note that applicants will also be charged a Service Fee of: 26.50 EUR and Resubmission Fee of: 22.50 EUR per application, which must be paid in cash when you attend the visa application center. The service fee is liable to change in line with the European Commission exchange rate.
Courier re-submission: The applicant may request to have the passport returned from the embassy while the application is being processed. If the applicant later resubmits the passport for issuance of visa, VFS may request the applicant to pay 22.50 EUR to cover the Resubmission Courier.
Visa fees can only be paid with a credit card through the Application Portal Norway.

Documents Required
For information about the documents required, please visit the website of the Norway Directorate of Immigration (UDI) and go to the website of The Norwegian Embassy in Pristina.
Please be advised that it is a requirement that all documents are submitted in original in the A4 format. Any government issued documents that you provide originals for (birth certificates etc) must be accompanied by a copy. Any documents not in A4 size need to be copied into A4. The copies will have to be of very good quality with no staples, paper clips or glue as they will be scanned by the Embassy.
We stress the importance of submitting all the relevant documents. Missing documents may lead to a rejection or longer processing time. If you for any reason are not able to submit any of the documents, please write a short statement explaining this.

Photo Specifications
The photo must:
- be in sharp focus, clear and with good contrasts
- be printed on high quality photo paper with high solution
- be in colour
- be 35–40 mm in width
- be maximum 6 months old and resemble the applicant
- be taken with the applicant facing the camera directly, against a light background
- show the whole head and the top of the shoulders. The face must occupy 70–80 % of the picture.
- show open eyes that are clearly visible. Hair must not cover the eyes.
Regarding glasses:
Glasses are allowed as long as the eyes are clearly visible.
- the glasses must not be coloured
- the rim must not cover any part of the eyes
- there must be no reflection in the glasses
Regarding head-dress:
Religious head-dresses are allowed, provided that all details of the face are clearly shown.
- chin, forehead and both cheeks must be clearly visible
- shadows on the face due to the head-dress are not allowed

Note: Please follow these instructions carefully. If the photographs presented do not meet these requirements your application will be considered incomplete. A photo booth for meeting these requirements is available at the visa application centre.

Overview
If you wish to study in Norway, you must apply for a residence permit for studies. This is also called a study permit. You can apply for a residence permit to study at a university college or university, attend bible school or folk high school. You can also apply for a study permit if you are a skilled worker and are going to study Norwegian or take education to be recognized in Norway.
