Short Term Visa
In South Africa, short stay visas are issued for a maximum of three months. Short stay visas do not allow the applicant to switch into a longer term South African immigration service.
Passport holders who are exempt from visas for South Africa are subject to change without notice.
The citizen who is a holder of a national passport (diplomatic, official and ordinary) of the foreign countries / territories / international organisations listed below are not required to hold a visa when reporting to an immigration officer for an examination at a South African port of entry, subject to the terms and conditions set out in this list, including inter alia the intended period of stay in the Republic.

Overview
PURPOSE OF A VISA
A visa only enables the holder to proceed to a port of entry before or on the expiry date of the visa, where the holder must comply with the applicable law, regulations and the following requirements of the Republic of South Africa. No fixed travel arrangements must be made prior to the issuing of the visa and an average of 6 working days must be allowed for the processing thereof.
DURATION AND PURPOSE OF STAY
The period of residence in the RSA will be determined from the applicant’s date of admission to the Republic in accordance with any conditions that may appear on the visa. On admission, the visa will be deemed to be a visitor’s permit. Applicant must ensure that they request the full duration of their intended visits as renewals are subject to additional fees.
Applicant must also ensure that they apply for the correct visa reflecting the true purpose of the visit, as any change in the purpose of stay will only be approved in the RSA for good cause and if the requirements of the Act are complied with.
WARNING
Any applicant allowed entry into South Africa due to any misrepresentation, or false declaration on application form or who sojourns in the Republic in contravention of his / her visa permit conditions shall be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine or to imprisonment as an illegal foreigner
The Consulate General will not accept passports that are manually/hand written renewed or extended.
Please Note: Those who do not reside or hold a valid residency visa for UAE, cannot apply for a visa to South Africa from UAE.
You can submit your application only 1 month prior to your date of travel.
All applicants applying for a Short Term Visa to South Africa, can apply only for a maximum travel of up to 90 days.

NOTE:
Applicant’s whose visa applications have been denied have the choice to re-apply immediately by booking a new appointment and providing all the supporting documents as per the Check-list for the visa category they wish to apply for.
Applicants who wish to appeal against the decision of rejection must visit the Visa Application Centre within 10 working days from the date of rejection, to fill an Appeal form which will then be submitted to the Director General in South Africa through African Consulate in Dubai to review the decision. The processing may take from 6 months to 1 year; during this period till the decision of the appeal has been made the applicant cannot re-apply to South Africa.

Applicants need to submit the Application form with the new photo format, as explained below:
The photo must fulfill the norm specified by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation).- Please use a white background.
- The photo must be no more than 6-months old.
- Portrait style photo (no posing) showing both edges of face clearly.
- Close up of the head and top of the shoulders so that the face takes up 70–80% of the photograph.
- Photo in sharp focus and clear.
- Photo must be taken without wearing any head gear (cap, hat, etc.)
Photo Size
The photo for each visa applicant submitted must measure:- The picture dimensions must be 240 pixels wide by 320 pixels high at least. A smaller picture will be rejected. For instance, a photo being 235 pixels by 320 pixels is not valid.
- On the other hand, the photo should keep a proportion of 3 x 4 (width x height) within limits. However, 250 x 340 pixels picture would be valid, but not a 290 x 340 pixels one.
- Finally, the image weight (size in Kbytes) can never be bigger than 120 Kbytes. Finally, the image weight (size in Kbytes) can never be bigger than 120 Kbytes.
Resolution
- An image resolution is measured in DPI (dots per inch) and it's mainly used to control printing quality. Therefore, higher resolution means better printing quality.
- Photos resolution should be 300 dpi, so, when you scan the image, check this parameter carefully. However, bear in mind that the higher the resolution, the bigger the picture.
- The only image format accepted is JPEG (Join Photograph Expert Group Format). The other image formats such as BMP, TIFF, GIF, PNG, etc. will be rejected
Note : If children are traveling with their parents and are included inside the passport of the mother and/or the father, one photograph for each children MUST be glued to the application form of the father or the mother, depending on whom are they traveling with.
Please follow these instructions carefully. If the photograph provided does not meet these requirements, your application will be considered incomplete. -
Processing Time
The processing period for visa applications is minimum 6 (six) working days.
The Processing Time is a prerogative of the Consulate General of South Africa and the Consulate reserves the right to change it at any time without prior notification.
In some cases, processing time may exceed 6 working days based on the review and assessment by the Consulate General of South Africa in Dubai.

Overview
Foreigners who intend to work in the Republic of South Africa, with or without remuneration or reward, must apply for a work visa. However, in the case of short term or urgent need for a limited duration (not exceeding a period of three (3) months) of work activities that cannot be met by an application for a work visa, including, but not limited, to service technicians, journalists and film crews, an application for authorisation to conduct work on a visitor’s visa in terms of section 11(2) of the Immigration Act, as amended, may be considered.
All foreigners who intend conducting work in terms of section 11(2), must be issued with a visitor’s visa (not exceeding a period of three (3) months) at a foreign mission of the Republic of South Africa, before proceeding to the Republic.

Long Term Visa
Starting 01 November 2020, All Long Term Visa Applications must be lodged at VFS Global.
These are TRV (Temporary Residence Visa) Applications. A temporary residence permit allows a foreign national, such as international students, foreign workers, to legally stay in South Africa for longer than 90 days.
Supporting documents are applicable to every category of temporary residence visa. These supporting documents are listed on the website under each visa category and must accompanied by Form DHA -1738.
Only Fresh TRV applications are accepted the center, renewal of TRV is not in the scope if the Visa Application Center.
General Work Permit

Intra Company Transfer Work Visa

Occasionally, multi-national companies may decide to transfer an existing employee in a key position from UAE branch to a branch in South Africa. These employees must apply for intra-company transfer work permits.

Study Visa

Overview
If you are a student and wish to study in South Africa you can apply for a study visa by completing Form BI-1738.
Visas issued for studies at higher education and training institution shall be issued for duration of the course, but not exceeding four years;
Visas issued for studies at school shall be valid for the duration of the studies; provided that the duration for studies at the primary school shall not exceed eight years and for secondary school shall not exceed five years.

Photo Specifications
Applicants need to submit the Application form with the new photo format, as explained below:
The photo must fulfill the norm specified by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation).- Please use a white background.
- The photo must be no more than 6-months old.
- Portrait style photo (no posing) showing both edges of face clearly.
- Close up of the head and top of the shoulders so that the face takes up 70–80% of the photograph.
- Photo in sharp focus and clear.
- Photo must be taken without wearing any head gear (cap, hat, etc.)
Photo Size
The photo for each visa applicant submitted must measure:- The picture dimensions must be 240 pixels wide by 320 pixels high at least. A smaller picture will be rejected. For instance, a photo being 235 pixels by 320 pixels is not valid.
- On the other hand, the photo should keep a proportion of 3 x 4 (width x height) within limits. However, 250 x 340 pixels picture would be valid, but not a 290 x 340 pixels one.
- Finally, the image weight (size in Kbytes) can never be bigger than 120 Kbytes. Finally, the image weight (size in Kbytes) can never be bigger than 120 Kbytes.
Resolution
- An image resolution is measured in DPI (dots per inch) and it's mainly used to control printing quality. Therefore, higher resolution means better printing quality.
- Photos resolution should be 300 dpi, so, when you scan the image, check this parameter carefully. However, bear in mind that the higher the resolution, the bigger the picture.
- The only image format accepted is JPEG (Join Photograph Expert Group Format). The other image formats such as BMP, TIFF, GIF, PNG, etc. will be rejected
Note : If children are traveling with their parents and are included inside the passport of the mother and/or the father, one photograph for each children MUST be glued to the application form of the father or the mother, depending on whom are they traveling with.
Please follow these instructions carefully. If the photograph provided does not meet these requirements, your application will be considered incomplete. -
Processing Time
The processing period for visa applications is 8 WEEKS (2 months)
