Airport Transit Visa

Overview
Bulgarian visa is a document granted to a foreigner for entry, stay in, or transit through the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria or for transit at an airport. The visa is issued in the form of a sticker affixed to a foreign travel document or to another substitute document issued in good and due form, and is valid solely in connection with this document and for the purpose for which the visa has been issued.
Visa is valid only with a valid passport. In case a new passport is issued to a person who has already obtained a Bulgarian visa and the passport with the Bulgarian visa has been cancelled, even if the visa has not expired, the person should apply for a fresh visa with the new passport if he/she wishes to proceed with the visit to Bulgaria.
Citizens of Philippines who plan to visit Bulgaria are required to have a visa. As from 2 July 2009 holders of valid Diplomatic and Official Indian Passports can enter into, exit from and transit through the territory of Bulgaria without a visa for short-term visits of upto 90 (ninety) days within 6 (six) months.
As from 01 February 2012 holders of valid common two or Multiple entry Schengen visas are allowed to visit Bulgaria without a Bulgarian national visa, whereas the allowed number of entries and period of stay in Bulgaria should be equal to the permitted number of entries and period of stay on the common Schengen visa.
Holders of valid long term visas or residence permits issued by Schengen countries are allowed multiple entries and a period of stay in Bulgaria for up to 90 days in any six-month period from the date of the first entry, without a Bulgarian national visa.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Please pay attention that according to the Bulgarian Government’s Decisions all visitors holders of valid Schengen documents, as well as national two or multiple entry visas and residence permits of Romania, Cyprus, and Croatia do not require an additional visa for Bulgaria.
Therefore, visitors who are holders of:
- uniform visa (C) for two or multiple entries, valid for all Schengen Area Member States;
- long-stay visa (D) for stays exceeding three months, issued by one of the Schengen Area Member States;
- residence permit issued by one of the Schengen Area Member States;
- national visas for two or multiple entries or residence permits of Romania, Cyprus and Croatia
- do not require a visa for transit or intended stays in the territory of Bulgaria not exceeding 90 days in any 6 months.
The visitor will not be able to stay in Bulgaria for more days than specified in the visa. The number of days spent in Bulgaria is not deducted from the visa.
Information for the holders of the Residence card of a family member of a Union citizen:
A family member of a citizen of an EU Member State or the European Economic Area (EEA) may travel to Bulgaria without a visa, if (s) he has a valid passport and a valid Residence card of a family member of a Union citizen, and is travelling in the company of or is joining the family member who is a citizen of an EU Member State or the EEA. If the family member of a citizen of an EU Member State or the EEA does not have such a card, she/he needs a Bulgarian visa that will be issued on the basis of an accelerated procedure, free of charge.
A short-stay visa (C-visa) allows the visitor to transit through, or stay in the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria for a maximum of 90 days in any period 180 day-period. It is issued for one, two, or multiple entries for the purpose of transit, tourism, business, private or other purposes. Its validity period depends on the circumstances of the visitor’s travel to Bulgaria.
A multiple entry visa with a term of validity of up to one year may be issued to a foreigner, provided that she/he has received a short-stay visa in the previous year and has been used in accordance with the legal provisions for entry and residence in the Republic of Bulgaria
and
there are grounds for applying for multiple entry visa, as follows:
- The applicant maintains long-term business contacts with Bulgarian natural or legal persons operating under the Commerce Act;
- The applicant maintains long-term business contacts with Bulgarian legal entities operating under the Non-Profit Legal Entities Act;
- The applicant maintains long-term business contacts with representations of foreign legal entities, registered under art. 24 of the Investment Promotion Act;
- The applicant has a significant personal contribution to the development of bilateral relations with the Republic of Bulgaria;
- The Applicant is a member of a family of a Bulgarian citizen according to the Law on Foreigners in the Republic of Bulgaria;
- The Applicant is a family member of a citizen of a Member State of the European Union, of the European Economic Area or of the Swiss Confederation who resides in the Republic of Bulgaria for a long time;
- The Applicant is a member of the family of a foreigner who resides for a long time in the Republic of Bulgaria - while maintaining his / her habitual residence abroad;
- The Applicant is a driver of international road transport or a member of the passenger and freight rail transport.
- A foreigner cannot work in Bulgaria on the basis of a short-term visa.
The following persons are exempt from presenting proof for subsistence, accommodation and transportation:
- Members of the families or the households of European Union, European Economic Area and the Swiss Confederation citizens;
- Holders of service and diplomatic passports
The following persons are exempt from presenting an insurance policy:
- Members of the families or the households of European Union, European Economic Area and the Swiss Confederation citizens

The Visa fee, VFS service fee and other additional services fee (optional) can be paid in Cash/ Credit / Debit card at the Visa Application Centre.
Children who are under 6 years of age are exempt from the requirement to pay a visa fee.
When submitting an application for issuance of a visa for airport transit or for short-term stay, a fee of EUR 90 shall be collected, unless otherwise provided for by law, in an international treaty to which the Republic of Bulgaria is a party, in an act of the European Community/European Union, in an agreement of the European Community/European Union with third countries or in an act of the Council of Ministers.

The visa applicants have to present a valid travel medical insurance covering the entire period of planned stay with a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000. The insurance must be able to cover all expenses that may be incurred in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, emergency medical care and/or hospital treatment in case of emergency or death on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria.
The airport transit visa entitles the foreigner to cross or to stay in the international transit zone of the airport in the case of a transit landing or of changing flights for the purpose of continuing travel to another state.

- Minors (under 18 years of age): student card and original letter of the school, mentioning:
- full address, telephone number of the school
- permission for absence
- name and function of the person giving the permission.
- notary certificate of family relation or proof of guardianship, legalized by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
- when the minor is travelling alone or only with one parent: notary certificate of permission to travel from both parents or legal guardians, legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and when not in China, attested by the relevant authorities in the parents'/legal guardians' country of residence.

Bulgarian visa is a document granted to a foreigner for entry, stay in, or transit through the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria or for transit at an airport. The visa is issued in the form of a sticker affixed to a foreign travel document or to another substitute document issued in good and due form, and is valid solely in connection with this document and for the purpose for which the visa has been issued.
Visa is valid only with a valid passport. In case a new passport is issued to a person who has already obtained a Bulgarian visa and the passport with the Bulgarian visa has been cancelled, even if the visa has not expired, the person should apply for a fresh visa with the new passport if he/she wishes to proceed with the visit to Bulgaria.

As from 2 July 2009 holders of valid Diplomatic and Official Indian Passports can enter into, exit from and transit through the territory of Bulgaria without a visa for short-term visits of upto 90 (ninety) days within 6 (six) months.

The visa applicants have to present a valid travel medical insurance covering the entire period of planned stay with a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000. The insurance must be able to cover all expenses that may be incurred in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, emergency medical care and/or hospital treatment in case of emergency or death on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria.

- Travel medical insurance:
Proof of travel medical insurance valid throughout the territory of the Member States and covering the entire period of stay applied for. The insurance shall cover outpatient, hospital and repatriation expenses due to illness or death, with an amount of not less than €30,000.

The passport should be valid for at least 3 months after the intended date of departure and should have at least two empty pages.

- a sealed copy of the business license of the employing company

signature, date and clearly mentioning:
- address, telephone and fax numbers of the employing company
- the name and position in the employing company of the countersigning officer
- the name of the applicant, position, salary and years of service
- approval for leave or absence
- Minors (under 18 years of age): student card and original letter of the school, mentioning:
- full address, telephone number of the school
- permission for absence
- name and function of the person giving the permission
- notary certificate of family relation or proof of guardianship, legalized by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
- When the minor is travelling alone or only with one parent: notary certificate of permission to travel from both parents or legal guardians, legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attested by the relevant authorities in the parents'/legal guardians' country of residence.
- For retired person: Proof of pension or other regular income.
- For unemployed persons:
- If married: letter of employment and income of the spouse and notary certificate of marriage, legalized by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
- If single/divorced/widow/widower: Any other proof of regular income.

Overview
Bulgarian visa is a document granted to a foreigner for entry, stay in, or transit through the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria or for transit at an airport. The visa is issued in the form of a sticker affixed to a foreign travel document or to another substitute document issued in good and due form, and is valid solely in connection with this document and for the purpose for which the visa has been issued.
Visa is valid only with a valid passport. In case a new passport is issued to a person who has already obtained a Bulgarian visa and the passport with the Bulgarian visa has been cancelled, even if the visa has not expired, the person should apply for a fresh visa with the new passport if he/she wishes to proceed with the visit to Bulgaria.
Citizens of Philippines who plan to visit Bulgaria are required to have a visa. As from 2 July 2009 holders of valid Diplomatic and Official Indian Passports can enter into, exit from and transit through the territory of Bulgaria without a visa for short-term visits of upto 90 (ninety) days within 6 (six) months.
As from 01 February 2012 holders of valid common two or Multiple entry Schengen visas are allowed to visit Bulgaria without a Bulgarian national visa, whereas the allowed number of entries and period of stay in Bulgaria should be equal to the permitted number of entries and period of stay on the common Schengen visa.
Holders of valid long term visas or residence permits issued by Schengen countries are allowed multiple entries and a period of stay in Bulgaria for up to 90 days in any six-month period from the date of the first entry, without a Bulgarian national visa.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Please pay attention that according to the Bulgarian Government’s Decisions all visitors holders of valid Schengen documents, as well as national two or multiple entry visas and residence permits of Romania, Cyprus, and Croatia do not require an additional visa for Bulgaria.
Therefore, visitors who are holders of:
- uniform visa (C) for two or multiple entries, valid for all Schengen Area Member States;
- long-stay visa (D) for stays exceeding three months, issued by one of the Schengen Area Member States;
- residence permit issued by one of the Schengen Area Member States;
- national visas for two or multiple entries or residence permits of Romania, Cyprus and Croatia
- do not require a visa for transit or intended stays in the territory of Bulgaria not exceeding 90 days in any 6 months.
The visitor will not be able to stay in Bulgaria for more days than specified in the visa. The number of days spent in Bulgaria is not deducted from the visa.
Information for the holders of the Residence card of a family member of a Union citizen:
A family member of a citizen of an EU Member State or the European Economic Area (EEA) may travel to Bulgaria without a visa, if (s) he has a valid passport and a valid Residence card of a family member of a Union citizen, and is travelling in the company of or is joining the family member who is a citizen of an EU Member State or the EEA. If the family member of a citizen of an EU Member State or the EEA does not have such a card, she/he needs a Bulgarian visa that will be issued on the basis of an accelerated procedure, free of charge.
A short-stay visa (C-visa) allows the visitor to transit through, or stay in the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria for a maximum of 90 days in any period 180 day-period. It is issued for one, two, or multiple entries for the purpose of transit, tourism, business, private or other purposes. Its validity period depends on the circumstances of the visitor’s travel to Bulgaria.
A multiple entry visa with a term of validity of up to one year may be issued to a foreigner, provided that she/he has received a short-stay visa in the previous year and has been used in accordance with the legal provisions for entry and residence in the Republic of Bulgaria
and
there are grounds for applying for multiple entry visa, as follows:
- The applicant maintains long-term business contacts with Bulgarian natural or legal persons operating under the Commerce Act;
- The applicant maintains long-term business contacts with Bulgarian legal entities operating under the Non-Profit Legal Entities Act;
- The applicant maintains long-term business contacts with representations of foreign legal entities, registered under art. 24 of the Investment Promotion Act;
- The applicant has a significant personal contribution to the development of bilateral relations with the Republic of Bulgaria;
- The Applicant is a member of a family of a Bulgarian citizen according to the Law on Foreigners in the Republic of Bulgaria;
- The Applicant is a family member of a citizen of a Member State of the European Union, of the European Economic Area or of the Swiss Confederation who resides in the Republic of Bulgaria for a long time;
- The Applicant is a member of the family of a foreigner who resides for a long time in the Republic of Bulgaria - while maintaining his / her habitual residence abroad;
- The Applicant is a driver of international road transport or a member of the passenger and freight rail transport.
- A foreigner cannot work in Bulgaria on the basis of a short-term visa.
The following persons are exempt from presenting proof for subsistence, accommodation and transportation:
- Members of the families or the households of European Union, European Economic Area and the Swiss Confederation citizens;
- Holders of service and diplomatic passports

The Visa fee, VFS service fee and other additional services fee (optional) can be paid in Cash/ Credit / Debit card at the Visa Application Centre.
Children who are under 6 years of age are exempt from the requirement to pay a visa fee.
When submitting an application for issuance of a visa for airport transit or for short-term stay, a fee of EUR 90 shall be collected, unless otherwise provided for by law, in an international treaty to which the Republic of Bulgaria is a party, in an act of the European Community/European Union, in an agreement of the European Community/European Union with third countries or in an act of the Council of Ministers.
