SHORT TERM VISA

This visa is valid to visit all the States within the Schengen territory.

The nationals of third countries that are legal residents in the UAE can apply for a visa at the Application Centre in UAE.

Visa applicants are requested to appear in person at the time of submission.

Incomplete, unclear or unsigned applications will not be accepted.
Visa fees are non-refundable and have to be paid only in cash at the time of application.

When submitting the visa application, the established fee must be paid (generally €90 – equivalent in Dirhams). This fee is non-refundable and therefore will not be refunded if the visa application is unsuccessful. Under certain circumstances applicants may be entitled to a reduction or may be exempt from paying the fee. Please consult the Diplomatic Missions or Austrian Embassy in Abu Dhabi for more information on this. For all other necessary requirements, please consult the Diplomatic Mission or Consular Office where the visa application is being made as these may vary according to the applicant's country of origin.

The processing time for the application at the Embassy of Austria is approximately 15 calendar days and may vary depending on the decision of the Embassy.

Please be advised that due to the above mentioned minimum processing time, we are not able to guarantee the return of passports by specific dates for travel. By way of exception, in specific cases in which additional documentation is required, this period can be extended to a maximum of 60 calendar days.

Schengen visa must be obtained from the Embassy/Consulate of the country where the main purpose of travel lies. Therefore, please check your travel plans before submitting your application. In case of travel to multiple Schengen countries, please make your application to the one where you will be staying for the maximum number of days. If the duration of stay is the same in more than one Schengen country during the first trip, you must submit your visa application at the Embassy/Consulate of your first point of entry.

Please book appointments well in advance depending on your intended date of travel to avoid any inconvenience. Applications cannot be submitted earlier than six (6) months before the travel date. Please refer to the processing time specific to this Mission.

    Photo Specification

    Applicants need to submit their Application form with the new photo format, as explained below:

    The photo must fulfill the norm specified by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation).

    • Use a white background.
    • The photo must be no more than 6-months old.
    • Portrait style photo (no posing) showing both edges of face clearly.
    • Close up of the head and top of the shoulders so that the face takes up 70–80% of the photograph.
    • Photo in sharp focus and clear.

    Please follow these instructions carefully. If the photograph provided does not meet these requirements, your application will be considered incomplete.

  • Processing Time

    Usually, processing time for visa applications is 15 working days (starting from the time when the Embassy or Consulate received the application, not including the transportation time), counting from when all requested documents have been submitted. This period may be extended in specific cases, notably when further scrutiny of the application is required, for example, when an applicant must come to an interview or submit additional documentation requested by the Embassy or Consulate. During certain times of the year, the processing time can be longer due to the high volume of applications. It is recommended to submit your visa application at least two weeks prior to date of travel date and if possible, even earlier ahead of the holiday period.

    Please note that the application processing time and decisions on visa applications are the sole prerogative of the Embassy or Consulate. VFS Global has no role to play in these areas of the application process.

    For housemaids, labor contract copy (having completed at least 1year with the same sponsor), declaration form signed by the sponsor, copy of residence visa, passport and tickets of all members travelling are also required.

    National Visa -Type D is provided for those who intend to stay in Austria from 91 days up to 180 days.

    Only UAE nationals and nationals of third countries that are legal residents in UAE can apply for a visa.

    Applicant will have to provide evidence that he/she falls under this category, kindly refer to the information sheet of documents required.
