Visa Information

Overview

This visa is solely for the purpose of leisure travel including vacationing, cruising, sightseeing and other recreational activities. If during any portion of their visit to Germany, the applicant intends to engage in business, or official duties he/she must refer to other relevant visa categories.

Please read carefully the following “Document requirement”, “Photo Specifications”, “Download Form” to properly prepare your application in conformity with the specific requirements of the Decision marker for this visa category.

Visa Fees

The Visa Fee for the applicable visa type is listed in the table below. The fee mentioned is applicable per applicant.

Fee waivers for Schengen visas:

Visa fees are waived by all Schengen states for the following categories of persons, regardless of their nationality:

• Children under six years.
• School pupils, undergraduates, postgraduates and accompanying teaching staff who undertake trips for the purpose of study or training.
• Representatives of non-profit organisations aged 25 years or less participating in seminars, conferences, sports, cultural or educational events organised by non-profit organisations.
• Researchers from third countries travelling within the European Community for the purpose of carrying out scientific research as defined in recommendation 2005/761/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 September 2005
• For the “replacement” of an old, valid visa in a “full” travel document (one that has no empty pages) with a new visa valid for the same period in the applicant’s new travel document.
• Visa fees are waived for the spouses, same-sex partners in a civil union and minor single children of German citizens, the parents of minor German citizens and family members of EU/EEA nationals, provided they enjoy freedom of movement.

Reduced fees:

• The visa facilitation agreements with Armenia and Azerbaijan stipulate a fee of EUR 35.00 ~ 950.000 VND for a Schengen visa worldwide and various waivers of this visa fee (e.g. for visits to relatives).
• For those nationals of Serbia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Albania, Ukraine and Georgia who still require a visa (holders of non-biometric passports), visa facilitation agreements stipulate a fee of EUR 35.00 ~ 950.000 VND.

Service fee

Note:

• The applicable visa fee in Vietnamese Dong (VND) is as per current exchange rate and will be updated later. It is subject to change without notice.
• The applicants who submit their applications at the Visa Application Centre can pay the visa fee in cash or through credit / debit card.
• Applicants exempted from visa fee need to pay only VFS Global Service fee.
• The service fee is inclusive of all applicable taxes.
• All fees are non-refundable.

Important note: 

• Photocopies that have been authenticated by Vietnamese government offices or notaries cannot be accepted for submission in lieu of original documents. However, it is permissible to submit, in lieu of originals, photocopies that have been recently (within the last 3 months) authenticated:

  • by the German Embassy in Hanoi;
  • by the German Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City;
  • by any German government office or
  • by any Notary Public in Germany.

• We strongly recommend the applicant to arrange your application per the checklist’s order, avoiding the delayed submission.

• Travel insurance:

  • The policy is valid worldwide or in the Schengen (Schengen Area) or Europe;

  • The policy covers the areas required by the visa code:

    • Medical expenses (inpatient and outpatient)
    • (Medical) evacuation
    • Repatriation (of mortal remains)
  • The insured sum for all these is equal to or higher than 30,000 EUR
  • There is no sub-limit on these that is lower than 30,000 EUR.

Applicant is obliged to provide all information to the best of his or her knowledge and belief according to the regulation in Section 54 (2) 8 in conjunction with Section 53 of the Residence Act. Download form here and submit with the visa application form.

Photo Specifications

Two recent biometric passport sized photographs (3.5x4.5 cm) as per specifications.

Photo specifications guideline

Requirements:

• Should NOT be older than 6 months and without Photoshop touching
• A frontal view of the face covering 70-80% (32-36 mm) of the photo;
• A uniform and white-colored background;
• Clear facial features and eyes – not covered by hair or glasses frame;
• Head coverings are only accepted for religious reasons;
• Do not glue or staple the pictures to the application form.

Processing Time

The processing of the application takes up to 15 working days.

The Embassy / the Consulate General of Germany in Vietnam may request further documentation, information or you may be called for an interview which can prolong the processing time.

After applying for your visa, you will not be able to borrow your passport back while your visa application is being processed.

If you need your passport during the visa process for other purposes, please inform us during the application process. You will have to hand in the passport at the same VfS-Center you applied as soon as possible to finalize the application process

According to the Act on the General Freedom of Movement for EU Citizens for EU/EEA family members a simplified visa procedure applies. This does not apply for family members of German citizens. The application can be submitted either at the VFS Global Visa Application Centre or at the visa section of the German diplomatic representation. An appointment is not necessary, but highly recommended to avoid a long waiting period.

The following documents have to be submitted:

• Schengen Visa application form;
• Two biometric passport photos;
• Original passport;
• Additional information sheet pursuant Section 54 (2) 8 in conjunction with Section 53 of the Residence Act;
• Proof of relationship with the EU/EEA family member (for example marriage certificate in combination with a passport copy of the EU/EEA family member);
• Compulsory paid travel medical insurance.

The German diplomatic missions in Vietnam reserve the right to request additional supporting documents and/ or information if necessary.

Overview

It is possible to get a visa if you want to receive a specific medical treatment in the destination country.

  • The insured sum for all these is equal to or higher than 30,000 EUR
  • There is no sub-limit on these that is lower than 30,000 EUR.

Processing Time

The processing of the application takes up to 15 working days.

The Embassy / the Consulate General of Germany in Vietnam may request further documentation, information or you may be called for an interview which can prolong the processing time.

After applying for your visa, you will not be able to borrow your passport back while your visa application is being processed.
