Depending on the travel purpose, a Short-term Schengen visa may be issued for a single, double or a multiple entry. Schengen Visa allows you to stay on the territory of Hungary during the limited period of time, as well as cross the internal borders of other Schengen countries.

The longest stay in the Republic of Hungary is 90 days within a half-year after the first crossing of the border of Hungary. The validity period of a short term visa is 5 years maximum.

Unified Schengen visas are valid on the territory of the following states: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

According to the conditions of the Schengen Agreement the applicant should apply for the Schengen visa to the Consulate of the country which is the main purpose of the trip.

The rules for issuing Schengen visas are regulated by the EU Visa Code.
