Overview
A Tourist Visa is given to those visiting India for tourism or other non-business (study, employment, etc...) related purposes. Valid for single entry for the period the return ticket has been booked with a maximum limit of 3 months. Irrespective of the duration of validity of visa, on each visit maximum period of stay in India is limited to 90 days, is non-extendable and change of purpose is not allowed. The processing time for tourist visas is 3-5 working days.
Bearing this in mind we strongly recommend applying close to the travel date. The number of entries is generally limited to single entry. However exceptions are made for those who travel to Nepal or Bhutan based on the travel itinerary. This has to be flawlessly documented and clearly indicated at the point of submission of the application.
