Overview
A Tourist Visa is given to those visiting India for tourism or other non-business (study, employment, etc...) related purposes. Valid for single entry for the period the return ticket has been booked with a maximum limit of 3 months. Irrespective of the duration of validity of visa, on each visit maximum period of stay in India is limited to 90 days, is non-extendable and change of purpose is not allowed. The processing time for tourist visas is 3-5 working days.
Bearing this in mind we strongly recommend applying close to the travel date. The number of entries is generally limited to single entry. However exceptions are made for those who travel to Nepal or Bhutan based on the travel itinerary. This has to be flawlessly documented and clearly indicated at the point of submission of the application.
Tourist visa for up to 5 years are available under the following condition: The applicant must be able to provide proof of travel to India 3-4 times a year spanning the last 3 years or more.

Flexibility in Children’s photographs
- Babies under one year do not have to have their eyes open.
- As regards the photograph of the children under ten years of age, requirements can be somewhat relaxed in respect of height of the face and the position of the eyes in the photographs; and in case of babies and infants also, the position of the face, the facial expression, the eyes and the line of sight can have some relaxation. However, a frontal photograph with clarity is required for children.
- It should show the child alone (no chair backs, toys or other people visible) looking at the camera with a neutral expression and the mouth closed.
