    Clarification on the acceptance of visa applications of minors who are not accompanied by at least one parent.

    ACCRA – 31 January 2017

    It is considered necessary to specify the following:

    1. The visa applications for minors (for which ever type of visa) can be submitted and undersigned only by one of the parents or, in the absence of one of the parents or, in the absence of both parents, by a person in possession of a notarized authorization attesting the identity and relation as well as the contacts and address for purpose of any notification;
    2. In the case a minor’s application is presented in the absence of a parent or a formal delegation, proceed as followed;
    1. In case of family reunion application type D, a new appointment date can be given in queue with already fixed appointments. If the new interview date goes beyond the 180 days of the issuance of the authorization (Nulla Osta), the case should be notified to the Visa Office (via E-mail);
    2. In case of a type C visa application, the applicant will be invited to take contact again when in possession of the requested documentation.

    It should be noted that applications not complete with the required translated and legalized documents or Passports will not be considered admissible and therefore not accepted. The principles referred in point b) must be applied for the rescheduling of the appointment.

  • Photo Specifications

    Photographs

    Please provide your recent photograph (not more than 6 months old). The photographs should be in colour: -

    • Taken against a clear background so that features are distinguishable and contrast against the background;
    • Clear and of good quality;
    • Printed on normal photographic paper;
    • Unmounted - 45 mm x 35 mm in size;
    • Full face (without sunglasses and normally without a hat or other head covering, unless the applicant wears such items because of their religious belief or ethnic background).
  • Processing Times

    The minimum processing time of a Schengen visa application is 15 calendar days. It can take up to 45 days for Schengen Visa and up to 90 days for National Visa.

    Applicants can apply until 6 months before their travel dates with the exception of the seafarers, in the performance of their duties, no more than 9 months in advance to the intended travel date.

    One cannot apply if there are less than 15 days before their travel date, meaning that they cannot apply if there are less than 15 calendar days, between the application reaches the Consulate, and their travel date. Please kindly note that this rule is totally independent from the processing time which depends on applicants’ nationalities and, in case of incomplete documents submitted, starts only when the Consulate receives all the necessary documents, if considered correct.

    Please be aware that it is not possible to expedited processing time because the system is completely automated.

    In order to avoid any delays in the visa application process, it is paramount that the visa application is complete and its documents submitted are as per the Mission’s requirements (see Documents Required for the different visa categories).

    Applicants also need to be aware that, especially during holiday seasons (i.e. Easter, Summer, Christmas), the appointments (see Schedule an Appointment) are being booked very quickly as the Mission only processes a fixed amount of visa applications on a daily basis.

    Furthermore, applicants need to consider that VFS/Mission’s closures and holidays (see Public Holidays/Closures) may extend the visa application processing time.

    Therefore, VFS recommends all applicants:

    • to book their appointment as soon as they know they’ll be travelling;
    • to ensure that their visa application’s documentation meets the Mission’s requirements;
    • to make sure the minimum time eligibility is respected.
