Legalization

Overview

Be aware that FROM JULY 2019 appointments at the Embassy will only be assigned on presentation of a valid Certified Appointment Number. In order to obtain such Number users must successfully complete the new online questionnaire. Only users who wish to submit their applications through Gerry’s are not subject to the questionnaire. The acts and documents produced by Pakistani authorities to be used in Italy must be legalized by Consular Office of the Embassy of Italy in Islamabad. Such acts and documents should also be accompanied by a translation in Italian, certified as true by the Consular Office, after the attestation of the local Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, Islamabad). The documents can be submitted in person or by a delegate trusted person with an authorisation letter and copies of the following: CNIC, passport, and if applicable, Carta d’Identita’ and Permesso Di Soggiorno.

Please note that documents attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs prior to 2012 will not be accepted.

Applicants and authorised representatives can only submit one file at a time for legalisation (unless applying as a family group).An appointment is required to apply for legalisation at the visa application centres in Islamabad and Lahore.

EU citizens requiring legalisation of Marriage Registration Certificate, Family Registration Certificate or Nikkah Nama must apply directly at the Embassy of Italy. Such applications require the submission of the questionnaire in order to obtain a valid Certified Appointment Number

All persons applying for legalisationmust complete and submit the legalisationrequest form. All fields must be completed and the form must be signed in original by the applicant and not by the formally authorised person.

The personal formally authorised by the applicant has to submit an original Authority letter or “Delega” (with the authentication of the signature signed in original at the “Comune” in Italy).

The Authority letter or “Delega” must be complete with name, surname, date and place of birth, number of valid passport of both persons including the list of documents to be legalised. The applicant can authorise only one person at a time.

VFS Global Service Fees

For every document listed above, applicants will be required to pay a service fee of EUR 5 (PKR 1,585) per document. This is in addition to the legalization fees.

The service fee is to be paid in Pakistan Rupees at the visa application centre.

The fees above are calculated using the Embassy of Italy’s consular exchange rate and are applicable from 01 July 2023.

Refunds

If your application for legalization of documents is returned by the Embassy of Italy, you may be entitled to a refund of the legalization fees collected on behalf of the Embassy. The Embassy will only refund any legalization fees that have been paid to Gerry’s/VFS.

If you wish to request a refund your must send an email to infoitalypk@vfshelpline.com which will be passed to the Embassy of Italy.

If the refund request is approved you will be required to visit the Embassy of Italy in person along with your original documents that you wanted legalized. No refunds will be issued if the original documents are not presented at the Embassy.

Processing Time

The estimated time for delivery of the documents submitted, duly sworn and validated in accordance of translation, takes about two/three weeks.
