Overview
This visa allows you to visit Japan for a holiday or recreation, for a stay up to 90 days.

Visa Fees
You must pay the applicable Visa fee and Service charge when submitting your application. The Visa fees are determined based on your Nationality and Type of Entry to Japan. Please refer to the table given below to know your visa fees.

- The actual fee is less than the amount you have already paid (eg. If your visa fees is determined to be exempt)
- There is a VFS service fee of NGN 16500 (inclusive of all taxes) levied per application over and above the visa fees.
- There is a courier charge of NGN 52465 levied per application in Lagos
- All charges (Visa Fee, VFS service fee, Courier charges for applications in Lagos and other optional charges) are to be paid via POS/ Cash.
Note - VFS service fee and Courier Charges are non-refundable.

Photo Specifications
Please affix a photo of your face to the visa application form (top right-hand corner, where indicated) that meets the following specifications
Photo dimensions of the photo must be identical to the following requirements:
- 45mm long × 35mm wide
- From the top of your head to your jaw must be 27±2mm
- Top margin (from the head to the edge of photo) must be between 7±2mm

Other notes:
- The Photo should be glued not stapled
- Use a photo without framing,
- White background with nothing in the background.
- No hat or no head covering except for religious purposes
- No shadows in the face or background
- Taken within six months before the application date
- You must look squarely into the camera
- Please write your name on the back of a photo.

Processing Time
- Processing of visa applications takes approximately 12 working days for applications in Abuja and 14 working days for applications in Lagos (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and Embassy of Japan Holidays from the date of application to the date of collection of the passport (visa).
- Please note that applicants may be asked to provide additional documents during the adjudication process, which will delay the passport collection date. Also, if there are any issues with the content of the application, the Embassy will forward the application to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo for further review. In such cases, it may take more than a month for a visa to be issued.
- Please make sure to book an appointment well in advance. Appointments for visa applications can be booked up to two months in advance

This visa allows you to visit Japan for a Visiting Family and Freinds, for a stay up to 90 days.

Temporary Visitor – Short Term Business etc

Overview
This visa allows people you to visit Japan for Short-Term Business Affairs, etc. such as follows.
- Attending meetings/conferences, business communication, business negotiation, aftersales service, marketing,
- Cultural exchange
- Sports exchange, etc.
You can stay for up to 90 days, depending on your itinerary.
Note) In principle, this visa does not apply to activities for which you receive remuneration from the Japanese side in exchange for your work in Japan.

Certificate of Eligibility (COE) Holders (Work / Long Term Stay)

Overview
If you intend to visit Japan for the purpose of work, study, cultural activities or as a dependent (spouse or child), which is outside the scope of “Temporary Visitor” category, please see the guidance on this category.
However, it is important that you contact your sponsor (i.e. employer or inviter, etc.) in Japan before applying for a visa to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility (COE), which will be issued by regional immigration offices in Japan.
If your sponsor in Japan is not familiar with the COE, please refer them to the website of the Immigration Service Agency of Japan at the link below.

Diplomatic/Official, Invited by the Government of Japan, etc.
If you fall into one of the categories below, you should submit your application documents directly to the Embassy of Japan in Abuja. An appointment with the Embassy must be arranged via email in advance.
- Diplomatic/Official mission (by a governmental/international organisation)
- Diplomatic/Official passports or Laissez-passer holder
- Invited by the Government of Japan / an international organisation based in Japan (e.g. a United Nations agency)
- MEXT scholarship students
*As an exception, if you are covering your own travel expenses (for example, to attend a registration-based conference), you should apply at the VFS Visa Application Centre in Abuja or Lagos.
Alternatively, you can also apply at the VFS Visa Application Centre in Lagos by prior consultation with the Embassy via email. In this case, VFS’s service charge and courier fee will apply.
